She’s a nice girl who just wants to help and has a lot of anger in her heart because poor people like her are treated like crap!

I mean… we were all there, right? People threw such a big fit about her mere existence that it actually genuinely changed the American political landscape for the worse (and got her basically written out of the next movie)

She literally didn't do anything wrong. Not in an "my favorite character can do no wrong" kind of way, I just mean it's been almost ten years and I still don't know what those dudes were actually mad about. And she's cute and nice and I liked her!

The shit that happened with rose pisses me off beyond belief to this day actually and I don't even gaf about star wars anymore. The fact that not only did she get such a misogynistic and racist backlash to the point of people harassing her actress but that the films themselves capitulated to this and she was completely absent in the next film. The fandom misogyny in Jean's case is not merely the nagging-mother-ification of a young woman in her early twenties just trying to hold things together, but a simultaneous hostility towards any meaningful discussion of the misogynistic writing that surrounds her. The fandom's victim blaming of a character whose labor has been exploited, and whose role in the narrative has been dimished in order to uplift male characters in her vicinity, continues to make the Genshin fandom as a whole an incredibly hostile place for any kind of meaningful discussions of misogyny within the writing or narrative, and continues to perpetuate cisheteronormative understandings of fandom by insisting that those who like her Must Be (Cishet) Men.

Guy who is normal about Jean Gunnhildr voice Jean is sososososo cool and I love her so much. She's a terrible guardian who sends a child to solitary confinement (being grounded) for blowing up entire ecosystems, because not only is she the only person who seems to (correctly!) think of this as an actual problem but because she's a 20-smth year old who had a child dumped on her, and who sees being disallowed to leave her room for hours at a time as normal because she was raised the same way. She's fully capable of taking down entire squads of ancient war robots all by herself but is overly harsh on herself for being messy about it because she wants to preserve the history behind them. She's one of the first people in the game to talk about the mysterious lost kingdom that is the key to like a good 60% of the game's lore. When she was a child, she was once told that she didn't need to be absolutely perfect in everything she did, so the next few times she turned in homework she intentionally got a question wrong to make sure she wasn't perfect. There's a legend in the city that the first words everyone in her family learned to speak were a committment to putting the city/nation's wellbeing above her own. Her parents went through a divorce when she was a child leaving her and her younger sister with an awkward distant relationship well into (at least Jean's) adulthood. She meets the god she's been worshipping since she was a child, the god of freedom, while he is in a disguise, figures out that he is that very god soon after speaking to him, and keeps his identity secret anyway, only confirming that she's realised when he asks. Her god vaguely mentions one of his tenets in a conversation, and she quotes the exact scripture he is referencing. Her favorite food is mushroom pizza and she's born on pi day (get it? pi day? like a pizza pie?)
