I just googled this and… yes, it’s absolutely real.
And there are so many articles and videos and discussions. Like, the scientific community is buzzing about this.
So much research will have to be redone because the data was absolutely compromised, off by orders of magnitude, by using standard lab gloves.
The world is probably not horrifically contaminated by microplastics. Sterile laboratories, however, are contaminated by latex and nitrile gloves.
Thank God someone bothered to check.
>I just googled this and… yes, it’s absolutely real.
Sources beyond dude just trust me, for the skeptics.
Scientists may have been unknowingly inflating microplastics pollution estimates, and the surprising source could be their own lab gloves. A

how did they not fucking account for this. sorry but this is really really stupid
this is so funny.
Friend was getting frustrated at hand sewing because the polyester thread was twisting a lot, so I gave him some cotton thread and he went wow this is so much better. now I'm wondering if perhaps a lot of the people who hate hand sewing have never tried it with a well behaved thread. If you've only ever hand sewn with polyester thread try cotton or silk, or linen with some beeswax! (And read this blog post with more advice.)
I have given similar advice in regard to machine sewing--cheap polyester thread creates varying levels of frustration that nicer polyester thread does not, and I wonder how many people who have problems with machine sewing are actually dealing with uncooperative thread.
(I discovered this on accident, when I switched from my usual Saba or Gutermann thread to a no-name 2/$1 store brand thread that once was my main thread, thinking it was nothing more than a silly act of nostalgia, but, no. All of the issues I used to have sewing knits immediately reappeared. I switched to a better thread--in a worse color match--and the problems vanished. And I'd thought the problems with sewing knits had gone away because my sewing skills had improved! Nope! It was spending more money on thread!)
This is giving me flashbacks to the time in the 2010s when I thought I'd save time and money by picking up some cheap off-brand thread at the convenient SAS Fabrics (a discount mill-end store). I went from having no trouble sewing a nice seam to have endless and varied problems.
That also reminds me that at some point, I'll need to side-eye the current thread stash, as all but two spools are from my mother's stash, so they are a minimum of six years old, probably much older. Here, therefore, is a link on how to test if your thread is too old. (It's one thing I don't buy at estate sales!)
Even though you may think that buying a large box of vintage thread on sale sounds like a like your saving money, it may turn out to be quit
I like old thread, but I do always pull on it to make sure it's strong enough! I figure if it can last for decades in a garment there's no reason a properly stored thread can't last just as well on the spool. And the weaker stuff is great for hand basting, so I keep it too, as long as it's a decently smooth cotton. (At my first tailoring job I learned that you can actually buy specially made hand basting thread that's designed to break easily so it's easier to pull out.)
But oogh, yeah not the cheap fuzzy stuff. If a bunch of secondhand thread comes with any of those thin cheaply made spools that have that very visible fuzziness they get tossed immediately. Serger thread is the only stuff that's allowed to look like that!
In the realm of handsewing, I might have a bit of a strange take:
I don't like waxing my thread. I know...controversial. I find for me it just sticks to itself and everything, leaves little bits of wax on the seam when I pull it through the fabric, and it sticks to itself which causes even more knotting than non waxed thread does.
As for material, I do use quilting weight cotton quite a bit for my hand sewing as it's sturdier, but I also love Coats and Clark polyester thread. I find it even smoother than Gutermann
I think in my millinery class I only waxed my threads once. I still got an A grade average across all three semesters.
Now if the teacher had told us about heat setting the wax into the thread, that might have made more sense. It's more time intensive, but I think it would have made things so much easier, so clumps of wax didn't interfere with the work.
Before someone asks, my hands don't get a lot of heat in them and they're always cold, which is why wax causes me so much grief.
Been tempted to try out a thread conditioner though, but I don't know how well it plays nice...or doesn't with silk

I know everyone makes a big deal out of the emotional moments in the "Chidi and Elanor Love Each Other" montage in the season 3 finale, but honestly, that's not the part that's the best. It's something that is very funny and VERY touching.
It's this moment. This one right here is how you know they love each other. See, Chidi teaches Elanor in every timeline... But here we see Elanor reaching out. She doesn't have a lot to offer Chidi, but she's TRYING. She's TRYING to teach him something that he doesn't know, and SHE IS IMITATING HIM not because it's a joke, but because she's using him as a model for love. This kind of imitation is a CLASSIC way for someone like Elanor to dip a toe into the pool of emotional vulnerability, into reciprocating effort and feelings.
AND HE'S TAKING HER SERIOUSLY. He's CLEARLY trying really hard to follow along, even though there's NO WAY this matters... Except it matters to her, so it matters to him.
I want love to find me the way it found Chidi and Eleanor
Love didn't find them, they worked hard and built it themselves.
Love doesn't just happen, you have to work for it. The show even addresses this.
Don't cheapen their relationship by saying "love found them."

Realizing that I am not employing enough of my free will to become a nuisance at work
Me watching this:
I’m not letting this rot in the tags
ok so, I approached my local library with a proposal to donate a mural as a way to A: build portfolio/gain practical experience and B: give back to a beloved public institution. The director was very enthusiastic about it and i've been working on it since the beginning of March. Come with me as I endeavor to paint what is in all honesty an excessive amount of birds
I wanted the birds to look like they were actually in the space so first thing after doing the draft was to do a lighting study
after that I covered the walls in letters in lieu of a projector/vr headset bc i have neither of those :) Then i take a picture of the section of wall and superimpose the lineart over top of it so I can pencil in the lines
et voila
and that was a whole week on it's own so next comes the paintin' >:)
and now, the birds
Birds 1 and 2/14: Red Winged Blackbird, Male and female, Agelaius phoeniceus
Bird 3/14, American Robin, Turdus migratorius
hoo boy, ok *out of breath*
GIVE IT UP FOR BIRD NUMBUH 5, THE CANADIAN GOOSE, Branta canadensis!!!!
this guy took me about 4 days to completely finish, all of those freakingk coverts were a bear to render
speaking of obnoxious coverts:
bird 5/14, Bluejay, Cyanocitta cristata
the friggin stripes almost got me chat, i may not make it
Madam....
birds 6 and 7: American Goldfinch, Spinus tristis, male and female
pleasantly simple to paint! next is the flickerrrrr
*melts into goo*
BIRD NUMBER 8, (yellow shafted) NORTHERN FLICKERRRRR, Colaptes auratus
genuinely made me start questioning my sanity around day 3, it's half the size the of the goose, WHY did it take me 4 days to finish??
nothing but pain and suffering, i'm sure hope the next bird will be much easier and with FAR less barring :)
in other news, I am losing my sanity hairline
the complete and total defeat in the prosecutor's voice at the very end..... im 💀💀💀
Havent seen a lot about this on tumblr so maybe not a lot of people know:
He was wrongfully raided by police in 2022
He used footage and names of the specific cops in posts, videos and songs making fun of them
The cops sued for defamation and cried in court about the songs ruining their lives
He won anyway
I love how unapologetic he is. And rightfully so!! How you gone cry about being embarrassed when you weren't crying about barging into my home and threatening my life? No one was worried about anybody's children when they weren't the right color. They good. 🤷🏾♀️
Trying to keep up with this made me feel like English wasn’t my native language
