I do really love it when women write graphic and fucked up things. I feel like so often people react to fucked up fiction with “of course a disgusting man would write this 🙄” and it often carries an unspoken (honestly sometimes spoken) message of “a woman’s PURE and DELICATE and FEMININE mind could NEVER think of something this VILE”. My completely anecdotal experience has been that people who work at municipal animal shelters ("kill" shelters) tend to be overworked but very empathetic public servants and/or volunteers. People who run private dog rescues are among the most bizarre and aversive human beings who channel every single maladaptive tendency they have into their imagined relationship with dogs and imagine themselves to be under constant psychic attack from the forces of evil in the world. People who run guinea pig and rabbit "rescues" tend to be one person who is the equivalent of your very quiet and generally affable autistic coworker who is good natured about taking care of their animals and want to work with people to get them homes. People who run reptile and bird rescues are as serious as a heart attack and approach the task with a severity akin to King Priam trying to both protect and lead his vulnerable kingdom. People running cat rescues like being around cats.
