“But what did you do to that Eevee for her to be so angry at you?” Nirei questions with confusion in his face and notebook at hand. “Why don’t you tell me how you first met her? Maybe you did something that Eevee found insulting?” Nirei suggests.

Turns out that Sakura found that Eevee while taking shelter from rain, the poor thing was badly injured and the boy took care of her cuts while some slave he had with him and by ripping a bit of his shirt off to bandage her, then Sakura left once the rain had stopped.

“And that’s it! So, tell me why the damn thing tries to pummel me whenever she sees me?! She even followed me all the way here!”

Nirei looks at Sakura as if looking at a fool.

“Sakura-san, I think that Eevee is angry at you because you didn’t take her with you when you came here.” Nirei explains first.

“B-b-but how was I supposed to know that?! A-and I don’t have pokéballs! How was I supposed to capture her?!”

“Sakura-san, you know you don’t necessarily have to use a pokéball to ‘capture’ a pokémon, right?”

“W-what?”

“A pokéball is mostly used as a practical way to transport a group of pokémon or just a pokémon. There are also law restrictions on some cities and communities that forbid certain type of pokémon to be out on the streets, be it because of their size or type, so the human guardian of the pokémon must transport them in a pokéball, but if it’s something like, I don’t know, a Skitty, it’s alright to keep them out.” Nirei explains.

Sakura’s mouth is hanging open at the revelation.

Long story short, by the end of the day Sakura Haruka is now the proud trainer of a very willful female Eevee (that at some point will evolve into an Espeon). Sakura ‘captures’ Eevee right before the beginning of the Shishitoren arc.

As the story advances, Sakura’s group of pokémon does too.

After Eevee came Absol, who couldn’t stop sensing the dangers that always seem to surround Sakura and simply decided to stay with the boy to protect him (at first, Nirei almost had a heart attack when Sakura told the group about the Absol that kept stalking him back then).

Absol joins after the Keel arc, right after Sakura talked to Kaji and grew closer to his classmates, but she had been checking on Sakura since he arrived to Makochi.

Then Togepi joins the fray; Sakura found his egg one good morning as he woke up, right between his legs (it’s Suo favorite story).

Togepi’s egg appears in Sakura’s apartment after he, Nirei and Sou helped Tsubaki with Ito-san depression (Togepi won’t evolve into Togetic until the end of the current arc, where all this thing with Suo settles down).

Around the time Sakura met Momijikawa a lonesome Shinx was found by Absol, who took it to Sakura, he took the sick baby pokémon home and took care of him until it became healthy again, the little Shinx never left.

The next pokémon who entered Haruka’s life was a troublemaking Bagon who loves to bang his very hard head against Sakura’s, who teaches Bagon how to kick rocks just as hard as he does when he smashes them with his head.
