We are heading towards an absolute knowledge black hole, aren't we?
here have a fun etymology fact that sounds exactly like a shitpost:
adders (those european snakes) used to be called "nadders", but people kept mishearing "a nadder" as "an adder" and eventually just started writing it down the latter way.
the same thing happened in reverse with newts, which went "an eute" => "a neute" => spelling eventually shifted to "a newt".
I'm gonna say it here too. Allow me to be crystal fucking clear.
It is not cowardly to stay in the closet. Full stop. You do not owe anyone any part of yourself you aren't ready to share
If you unable to come out because you fear for your safety or well-being or because you know it will cause you substantial discomfort, that is not a defect in you. It's a failure of the society in which you live and the community surrounding you.
If you just don't want to share that part of yourself, that is valid and I support you
The thing about wanting to write smart essays is you truly do have to read books to do that, and the thing about reading books is that it is way harder now that I am not 17 and smartphoneless
Genuinely humiliating to read in 25 minute chunks because a decade of having a feelgood device in my pocket has turned my brain to cheese

We are often asked if multiple ink colors can be used on a single impression. In this video, Jared letterpress prints a phrase about museums showing that 6 ink colors is possible. The phrase “Museums are not neutral” was printed with red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple ink using our Washington hand press. The wood type used is 15 line pica in size and the typeface is French Clarendon.
Our museum, like all museums, is not neutral. People often argue that museums should be neutral or that museums can’t be “political.” However, museums actually are cultural institutions that originate from colonial acquisition and they are about power. History is often written by the victors. It is important for museums to focus on multiple sources and perspectives, especially historically underrepresented groups. Promoting diversity is important to understanding a more holistic history of events.
Juneteenth aka Freedom Day.
Juneteenth is a centuries long, Black American commemoration day for the end of American chattel slavery, particularly for the ancestors who learned of their freedom in Galveston, Texas in 1865 — two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
Although they're no longer in America and we're no longer culturally the same, Juneteenth is also celebrated by the Mascogos, the descendants of Seminole Indians who escaped America at the tail end of the Gullah Wars (1739-1858), in Nacimiento de Los Negros, Mexico.
Up until 1997, the American flag (sewn by Grace Wisher) was the only flag Black Americans waved during the parade and overall celebration. Since then there are only two other flags that are raised and waved: the official Juneteenth flag (made by Mr. “Boston Ben” Haith) and the Black American Heritage Flag (made by Mr. Melvin Charles & Mr. Gleason T. Jackson).
Red, white, and blue. Red, black, and gold. That's it. This is not a Pan-Africanism takeover day. Keep your colonizing ethnocide to yourself and reserve it for cleansing your shit.

SN: If you're Black American and haven't done your genealogy or reached roadblocks in your tree, you can learn about lineage tracing and find some tips in this post. Much success.
You can only reblog this today! Next time Thursday 20 will follow Wednesday 19 will be in 2439!
if you don't do anything else today,
Please have a moment of silence for the people who were killed instead of freed when news of emancipation finally reached the furthest corners of the american south.
have another moment for the ledgers, catalogs, and records that were burned and the homes that were destroyed to hide the presence of very much alive and still enslaved people on dozens of plantations and homesteads across the south for decades after emancipation.
and have a third moment for those who were hunted and killed while fleeing the south to find safety across the border, overseas, in the north and to the west.
black people. light a candle, write a note to those who have passed telling them what you have achieved in spite of the racist and intolerant conditions of this world, feel the warmth of the flame under your hand, say a prayer of rememberance if you are religious, place the note under the candle, and then blow it out.
if you have children, sit them down and tell them anything you know about the life of oldest black person you've ever met. it doesn't have to be your own family. tell them what you know about what life was like for us in the days, years, decades after emancipation. if you don't know much, look it up and learn about it together.
This is Juneteenth.
white people CAN interact with this post. share it, spread it.
terves will try to erase the existence of women with masculine primary and secondary sex characteristics that developed without HRT, but we exist. my mom, sister, aunt and grandmother all grow/grew facial hair. my sister began balding in her late 20s due to high testosterone. most of my aunts have very masculine facial features.
my sister is diagnosed with pcos. my family is full of intersex women with naturally masculine features. one of my aunts gets misgendered as a man constantly because she doesn't shave her mustache that often, has black hair, and dresses very masc. most of the women in my family are stocky with dense builds. all of these women exist this way without any HRT or modification on their behalf. none of these women have endometriosis either. pcos is what runs in my family
intersex women are everywhere. perisex women who don't have intersex conditions are everywhere. women of color with features deemed "MASCULINE" by white beauty standards are everywhere. butch women are everywhere. there are women who develop masculine features all the time for a variety of reasons. it's time to stop erasing these people for the sake of attacking trans women.
let women with "Masculine" features, trans, intersex, queer, and everything else speak. stop erasing the existence of millions of women for the sake of petty arguments and transmisogyny. enough is enough. i will not sit here and pretend like my own goddamn relatives don't exist while terves do so they can silence trans women. women come in all fucking shapes and sizes period end of sentence.
stop attacking my sisters while erasing the rest of my family. all of these women are my family equally. stop fucking with us or i'll fuck with you.
Real feminism actively and explicitly includes trans and intersex women, or else it isn't feminism. Bringing other women down for being masculine is misogynistic
I (afab, light skinned person with dark hair) grow chin hairs, which I periodically shave but am not obsessive about removing. One of my coworkers is dark skinned with graying chin hairs. If you look closely enough at either of our faces you can see them.
"No one ever looks at a woman/AFAB person and sees hair on their face" is not just false, it's straight up DUMB false.
There is not generally nearly as much as on people with beards, no, but it's not at all uncommon.
Society just tells us to remove it, so many of us do.
Older women especially developing chin hairs is such a common thing that the term "stray eyelash" is an established euphemism for them.
I started growing them as a teenager and they've slowly increased over the years. I also grow some chest hair. I am I some form of intersex? Do I have some hormone fuckery going on? Are my dad's beard and body hair genetics so incredible that merely being afab cannot contain them? Who knows! My body does that on its own, I just live here.
My doctors have periodically grown so intensely concerned by my chin hairs that I have had my testosterone levels tested more than once. They’re in the normal range.
Bodies are considerably weirder than society says they’re supposed to be.
