something about love makes you look at things differently. the really important part of this is that any love will work. if you love blue you will see it everywhere. if you love soft things you will note the cat and the thread count and the moss. you will find your best friend in ugly greeting cards and haunted dolls and terrible fanfics and since they remind you of her they will be beautiful.
so you will love the world differently for having loved someone else. you will love a certain cereal or pokemon because of your brother. you will hear your favorite band's song playing in a random store and the love of it will make the whole world a little more golden. you will read a poem so many times the words become their own creatures. you will find you cannot listen to certain music without thinking of your favorite show.
this velveteen rabbit transformation occurs. the love does not stop, it echoes.
Why do they keep taking away their swag/cuteness
The raptors one is the most painful one for me they literally had a dinosaur playing basketball in their logo maybe the coolest thing in the fucking world and they were like let's get rid of him
this site has one setting
Iâm laughing, but thereâs a super useful corollary, which my husband calls âthe Red Balloon.â He was a defense lawyer and had a fair number of drug addicts come through, and there is a thing where if youâre like, on your first offense, theyâll do a thing where you can go to treatment and if you complete it theyâll take the conviction off your record. And he would tell his clients, âLook, everyoneâs going to tell you not to do drugs. Theyâre going to say it over and over again. And itâs like, if people tell you not to think of a white elephant, youâre going to think of a white elephant. But the trick to not thinking about a white elephant is to think of a red balloon. So you need to find your red balloon. For some people itâs yoga. For others itâs woodworking. For some people itâs scrapbooking or gardening or any of a long list of things to do. They focus on that, itâs a lot easier to succeed in ignoring the white elephant.â So yeah, âwatch yourselfâ is one thing⌠but the better idea is to watch something else. (Even if itâs fanfic about werewolves fucking.)
Itâs a form of productive dissociation, and is super, super helpful. Itâs easy for me to get bogged down in how much pain Iâm in⌠but some of the most painful periods of my life have also been the most productive, writing-wise, because writing is one of my red balloons.Â
There is a phrase I use A LOT in my parenting and my son gets very sick of it, but itâs true:
The thing you practise is the thing you get good at.
You may not intentionally be practicing âbeing grumpyâ but if you donât put effort into practicing ânot being grumpyâ then Iâm afraid thatâs what youâre doing. Itâs hard! Itâs really hard! Sometimes, for some things, itâs pretty much impossible and that sucks!
But being carefully aware that you are going to get good at the things you do most of is a good way to be more careful of what those things are. If that makes sense.
You gotta appreciate sometimes how tumblr works in such a way that everyone who wants to reblog this interesting or useful psychological advice is also forced to reblog the thing about werewolf fucking
I have three monitors on my desk. The left one shows the order book. The middle one shows Truth Social. The right one shows the investigation queue.
On April 21st, the left screen moved first.
I am a Senior Surveillance Analyst at a commodities exchange. I have held this position for nineteen years. My job is to monitor trading activity for suspicious patterns and generate compliance reports. I am employee of the quarter. I have a mug.
At 19:54 GMT on April 21st, someone placed 4,260 sell orders on Brent crude futures. They did this during post-settlement. The window after the market closes when daily volume is typically in the dozens. Sometimes single digits. Sometimes I watch the screen and nothing happens for forty minutes and I think about whether my daughter is happy.
On April 21st, someone placed $430 million in directional bets in 120 seconds during that window. One hundred and twenty seconds. I timed it on my watch because the system clock rounds to the nearest minute and I have found, in nineteen years, that precision matters to no one but me.
At 20:10 GMT, the President posted on Truth Social that he was extending the Iran ceasefire.
Brent dropped from $100.91 to $96.83.
I flagged the trade. I flag a lot of trades. I want to tell you what happens to my flags.
My flags go into a system called TRACE. Trade Review and Compliance Evaluation. I did not name it. The system generates a report. The report goes to a committee. The committee has a name I am not allowed to share but I can tell you it meets quarterly and the conference room has a credenza with bottled water that is sparkling because someone once put still water in the room and a managing director sent an email about it that was longer than most of my surveillance reports.
The committee reviews my flags. The committee has reviewed all of my flags. Here is the complete record of actions taken on my flags in 2026:
Reviewed.
That's it. "Reviewed" is a status. In compliance, a status is the absence of an action that has been given a name so it looks like one.
Let me show you my flags.
March 9th. Someone bet millions on oil falling at 18:29 GMT. Forty-seven minutes later, a CBS reporter posted that the President said the Iran war was "very complete, pretty much." Oil dropped 25%. Forty-seven minutes. I flagged it.
March 23rd. Someone sold 5,100 lots of Brent and WTI crude futures between 10:49 and 10:50 GMT. Fourteen minutes later, the President posted on Truth Social about a "COMPLETE AND TOTAL RESOLUTION" to hostilities. Oil dropped 11%. Over 13,000 contracts traded in sixty seconds after the post. Fourteen minutes. I flagged it.
April 7th. Someone established a $950 million short position in oil futures at 19:45 GMT. Three hours later, the President declared a two-week ceasefire. Nine hundred and fifty million dollars. I flagged it.
April 17th. Someone placed $760 million in bearish bets twenty minutes before Iran's foreign minister confirmed the Strait of Hormuz would reopen. Seven hundred and sixty million. I flagged it.
April 21st. The $430 million. Fifteen minutes. I flagged it.
That is $2.1 billion in directional oil bets in April alone. Every one of them landed on the correct side of a presidential announcement. Every one of them was placed in a window so narrow you could measure it in bathroom breaks. I flagged every single one.
The CFTC chair told a Congressional committee that his organization has "zero tolerance" for fraud and insider trading. I wrote that quote on a Post-it note and stuck it to my right monitor. The one that shows the investigation queue. The investigation queue has not moved since March.
Zero tolerance. Zero staff. Zero budget. Zero prosecutions under the STOCK Act since it was signed in 2012.
Fourteen years. The law has existed for fourteen years and has been enforced zero times. In compliance, we call that a compliance rate of one hundred percent. No cases filed means no cases lost. You cannot fail an audit you never conduct. We call that excellence.
Last month the White House sent an internal email to staff. I was not on the distribution list but I have read reporting on it and I need you to sit with what I am about to say. The email instructed White House staff not to use insider information to place bets on prediction markets.
The White House had to send a memo telling its own employees not to insider-trade.
I want you to read that sentence again. Not because the instruction was unclear. Because the instruction was necessary. Because someone in the building looked at the same pattern I have been flagging for months on my three monitors and decided the appropriate response was an email.
The President's son sits on the advisory board of Kalshi. He is an investor in Polymarket. Both are prediction markets. Both saw accounts created days before U.S. military action.
One account. I cannot stop thinking about this account. It was called "Burdensome-Mix." It was created in December. On January 2nd, it placed $32,500 on Venezuela's president being removed from power. On January 3rd, Maduro was seized by U.S. special forces. Burdensome-Mix collected $436,000. Then it changed its username. Then it disappeared.
One account is a coincidence. But there were six.
Six accounts were created on Polymarket in February. All bet on U.S. strikes on Iran by the 28th. When the President confirmed the strikes, the six accounts collected $1.2 million between them. Five of the six never placed another bet. The sixth went on to correctly predict the ceasefire date and made another $163,000.
My surveillance system logged all of this. My system logs everything. My system does not have opinions and neither do I. I generate reports. The reports go to committees. The committees meet quarterly. Between meetings, the windows get shorter and the bets get larger.
March 9th: 47 minutes. March 23rd: 14 minutes. April 17th: 20 minutes. April 21st: 15 minutes.
The window is compressing. In March, you had time to make coffee between the trade and the announcement. By April, you had time to send a text. By summer, at this rate, the trade and the announcement will be the same event.
The spokesman said any implication that administration officials are engaged in insider trading is "baseless and irresponsible reporting."
Then the White House sent the email again.
I have been in compliance for nineteen years. I have seen insider trading run out of strip mall offices by men who could not spell "derivative." I have seen pump-and-dump schemes coordinated over WhatsApp by people who used their real names. I have seen a man try to manipulate soybean futures from a Panera Bread.
I have never seen $2.1 billion in perfectly timed trades across five presidential announcements in a single month go uninvestigated.
But I have also never seen a compliance system work this beautifully. Every trade flagged. Every report filed. Every committee briefed. Every quarterly meeting attended. Bottled water: sparkling. Minutes: distributed.
Zero prosecutions.
As long as the flags go up and the cases don't, my performance review says I am meeting expectations.
I am meeting expectations. The system is meeting expectations. The $2.1 billion is meeting expectations. The fourteen-year-old law with zero prosecutions is meeting expectations.
The left screen moves. The middle screen moves. The right screen stays perfectly, immaculately still.
In my field, we call this price discovery.

âKids shouldnât have to know about that.â
Okay so actually letting a serious topic be vague and confusing is much more scary for a child than explaining it in calm language they can understand.
When you are in a safe place, explain the serious topic in a way the child can understand.
The fire alarm went off at school today because of a mistake, but your teachers did the right thing to take you outside to be sure it was safe.
Some people use wheelchairs because their legs donât walk very well. It can happen because they are old and tired, or because they got hurt, or because they were born that way.
Your Uncle Jerod talked to mom and dad, and wants you to call her Aunt Kari now. We will call her Kari too, and we can all practice together if it takes some getting used to.
Anticipate age-appropriate fears the child might have so you can assuage those that are not a threat.
Yes, Kitty died at the vet, but that doesnât mean that itâs not safe for Puppy to go to the vet.
Yes, Peyton and Jo are getting a divorce, but they are both still part of our family and love you very much.
Yes, Grandma has cancer, but cancer is not contagious, so you are not going to get cancer by visiting her.
Anticipate fears that are realistic, and give the child clear direction about what to do, and what happens next.
If someone asks you to get in their car without permission, find Mom, Mama, or a teacher and tell them right away. We will make sure you are safe.
If Sparkyâs sickness makes him hurt very badly, we are going to take him to the vet and she will give him some medicine, and he will die, but then he wonât hurt any more. Because Sparky is very sick, we are going to spend some special time with him over the next few days.
If the fire alarm goes off at school again, follow the teacherâs directions. If the fire alarm goes off and you are somewhere alone, go outside, and ask a grownup to call 911.
Reassure the child that theyâre safe and loved, validate their feelings, and see if they have follow-up questions. Give them the option to take space to process, or to stay near you to feel safe.
Iâm sad about Sparky too. Do you think we could make his favorite peanut-butter treats, while we are spending special time with him?
I understand why Grandmaâs cancer makes you feel angry. It doesnât seem fair that people we love get sick. Would you like a hug?
You were worried about calling 911 if thereâs not a grownup around. I wrote down some important things, like our address, and we can go over these together so you are ready if anything like that ever happens.
These things are principally the job of the childâs parent or guardian, but in some cases directing the child to that caregiver is difficult or impossible (parent refuses/confuses the child, parent is absent, childâs questions are specific and relevant to a situation their parent was not present for, etc.) so I think all adults should be prepared to have these conversations with kids.
Honestly, having a big red meter displaying a numerical abstraction of my gross structural integrity floating intangibly above my head doesn't sound half bad. I can't imagine it would be terribly useful in my daily life, but at least I'd know.
Y'all if you're American please email your politicians and senators against the parents decide act. I'm fucking begging because we're reaching a tipping point.
Quick and easy link to both find your congressmen/women and giving you a quick and easy way to copy / paste the message into it. You want to oppose. It's an act that will demand that all major OS makers integrate a direct forced age verification control into all OS.
I received a comment on this that I figured would be very helpful- it's a template for communicating with your representatives. Be sure to use it for reference
Dear Representative [Name],
I am writing to express my strong opposition to H.R. 8250 (The "Parents Decide Act"). As your constituent and a concerned citizen, I believe this bill introduces unprecedented risks to digital privacy and security.
Specifically, I am alarmed by:
SEC. 2(a)(1)(B): Requiring age verification to even use an operating system creates a mandatory "hardware lockout" that ends anonymous computing and forces users to hand over sensitive identification data to major corporations just to power on their devices.
SEC. 2(a)(3): Mandating that OS providers create a system for all app developers to access verification data is a massive security vulnerability. This effectively creates a centralized API of user identities accessible to thousands of third-party developers, many of whom may lack adequate data protection.
This bill does not protect children; it creates a centralized surveillance infrastructure at the OS level. I urge you to protect the privacy of your constituents and vote NO on H.R. 8250.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
[Your Zip Code]
This is a hell that us down under in Australia are already living in, and itâs not even effective at what it claims to do in protecting children.
Given that, in the wake of this mandatory identification policy, my country seems to be moving to hand over its citizens biometric data, like fingerprints, Face ID files, and identification documents, over to the USA and to ICE to maintain the visa free travel (ESTA) we have, I strongly urge any US resident to send these emails, or make calls.
But if you canât do that, the most powerful thing you can do is spread the word. Tell your friends, family, coworkers, anyone who can help.
My reach will likely be small, and so I donât know if this will mean very much in the grand scheme of things, but I cannot stand to see this tracking happen to another population as it did to mine.
And if you think it wonât affect you, it will. All anonymity goes out the window when your accounts can be linked via your personal ID
I wish you all luck in preventing this act from going through.
Iâm not Christian, I donât go to church anymore, and my pastor died, but when he was alive Iâd sometimes go to his sermons and I remember one time he said âit feels good to hate, but we know that it isnât allowed, so when weâre told that weâre allowed to hate someone we get so excited that we forget weâre supposed to loveâ, and if my humble atheist ass might borrow some church talk Iâd like to perhaps submit that
Anyhow sometimes on the day to day I feel disgust or revulsion and I have to ask myself âis this a danger to anyone at all or am I just looking for something Iâm allowed to hateâ and a solid 98/100 times itâs the latter so once again thank you pastor D

me after a minor inconvenience: i hope i get hit by a [remembers iâm anti car-centric infrastructure] pedestrian
maybe the most evil example of lavender liberalism was when i met with an artist and she told me was working with some local lgbtqia+ orgs because the pride displays every year were getting vandalized , their solution was making an artwork with a high enough material cost that vandalizing it would hit the offender with a felony charge
even if you are stupid enough to think that this meaningfully will change anything in the entire world for the better you have to think with your heart and realize the artwork built to punish and incarcerate cannot be a beautiful and uplifting object and in existing to ruin lives it fails totally to be a monument to love
A Horse power being only 735 watt is honestly so weird like that's not even enough to run a modern game on decent seatings
You wanna know what's fucked?
Your brain is a 25-watt computer.
Brain is 25% of your energy consumption, you burn about 100 watts of power (about 100 joules per second). You're a 25-watt computer.
I don't like that fact
No but for real. Your brain is one of the most advanced machines known to exist. It's a computer capable of running a sapient intelligence on - and I cannot stress this enough - 25 watts of broccoli and stew. What the fuck.
It's a cool fact it just makes me uncomfortable
hi mtg, love your stuff. weird ask but my friend recently got into adam & paul save the whole, entire apartment and i was wondering if you had any fun little extras or headcanons you might have for paul or any world building facts you might remember?
Oh wow what a throwback! If I recall, we actually had a full three season arc planned. I donât know if Joelâs planning anything with A&P, so I wonât give away too much, but I think one of us became a half-zombie at one point? I was really excited for that. That first video was made with pennies so Iâd love to see it brought to life with a budget one day.
I think it's really funny that Japanese also has a word for "Edgelord" but theirs translates to "8th grader"
it's not even '8th grader' it's even funnier. chunibyo is eighth grade syndrome. like explicitly a diagnosis. i diagnose you with edgelord

A game for 3 to 7 players
Eat God Playtest Draft 0.7 is up.
The first major post-Kickstarter update focuses on replacing placeholder elements of previous drafts with full-featured â or, at least, greatly expanded â content, as well as giving the Forms, Arts, and included playset material a much-needed layout and technical editing pass to reduce the oft-remarked-upon "wall of text" effect.
The major changes are as follows:
AÂ number of Forms have been simplified and clarified, and several Form abilities which previously lacked any clear game-mechanical effects now have them.
The placeholder d6 table for your God-eater's Creed in the Character Creation chapter has been replaced with a full discussion of the topic, including eighteen worked examples and a full page of advice on how to devise your own, both courtesy of @cryptotheism.
Most Rebellious Arts have seen at least minor revisions, including a full rewrite of the Art of Ascension.
The "Dramatic Scenes" subsystem has been greatly expanded.
The placeholder "Western Fantasy" random inventory milieu has been reworked to bring its entries more in line with its own premise, and augmented with tables for seven additional milieux, ranging from gothic horror to drawing-room mystery.
The single-page prototype character sheet has been replaced with an expanded three-page version, designed by @ribstongrowback.
The Online Character Generator beta has also been updated to reflect these changes if you'd like to give it a spin! If you have any suggested adjustments (or typo corrections) for version 0.7.1, please let us know, either here in the comments or on the Penguin King Games Discord.
A complete list of changes follows below the cut. All page numbers refer to the PDF version.
