This is even more ironic knowing that Theodore Herzl was inspired by the Scramble for Africa and even proposed to Secretary of State for the colonies, Joseph Chamberlain, to colonize Cyprus or the Sinai Peninsula. Furthermore, in the Sixth World Zionist congress in 1903, Herzl proposed the Uganda Plan as a potential for Jewish colonization.
