Not to stick my dick in the wasp nest here but I just walked past a white dude with the longest crustiest dreadlocks I have ever seen in my LIFE and if I do not exclaim my bafflement and horror *sonewhere* then I'm afraid I will lose control of myself and gently ask him Why
Like we've GONE OVER cultural appropriation for fucking decades now, that shouldn't be news to anyone, and anyone capable of a google search should be able to grasp that the "vikings" didn't ACTUALLY DO THAT
But even if you boil away the "I don't believe appropriation is a real thing" people and the "well hmm you weren't THERE" people and even the "it's not that deep and it looks cool" people, there should still be the irrefutable fact that STRAIGHT HAIR DOESN'T LOCK?

Thank you to @fancycake for their hilarious idea that I had to draw
for those unaware today india experienced one of its biggest protests in half a decade. there were protests all over the nation for various causes but the major one was in delhi. all we asked for was the resignation of the education minister because he's failed the students of this nation time & time again. but we were met with brutality, the police had barricaded the main site of protest (jantar mantar). metro stations were shutdown, the public was restrained from reaching the protest site and all the adjoining areas had signal jammers to make sure the crowd had no access to constant updates. they had us blocked from all the sides. they were lathi (baton) charging students from one side & releasing tear gas from the other. you couldn't walk 100 m on streets without having a tear gas shell thrown at you. there were many students, women & kids bleeding ā some from their head. some couldn't walk anymore. the police had removed their nameplates & acted with full impunity to resort to unprecedented levels of violence. they were pelting stones at us, beating up people for no reason, forcefully detaining them and attacking us constantly with tear gas & rubber bullets. they wouldn't let you exit either. the crowd was peaceful & looking out for each other yet they were met with violence. i made a friend who was all alone & she asked to join me & my friend because a policeman wouldn't leave her alone. he constantly prodded her for personal info, invited her back to the jeep saying they have food there, wouldn't stop following her around. you couldn't call or ask anyone for help, we were left to fend for ourselves & be on a constant lookout if you did not want to be beaten up to death by police. all for what? asking a resignation? shame on this country.
Youth-led movement calls on education minister to quit in one of Indiaās largest anti-government rallies in years
More than 10,000 protesters braved tear gas and baton charges in their largest challenge yet to PM Modi's government.

This is my stuff!! Ah, memories
HELPPPPP
Reminds me of Jason Kander, former Missouri Secretary of State. When he went to the VA hospital to treat his PTSD, he told the nurse that Obama told him he should run for president, and she thought he was delusional.
Correction: It was worse. She asked him how long he's been hearing voices.
I think I'm gonna make this my go-to story. It's not the worst I've ever heard, which is an asset because people won't believe you if you tell them the actual bad stuff those people do. And it just perfectly sums up the casual arrogance everyone working in mental health seems to have. The way they treat you as inherently Lesser for being in their care.
If they can't even handle basic, easily verified shit like "I'm a lawyer" they are never going to believe you when you tell them that you know how to manage a condition you've been dealing with for decades better than they can or will.
And then there's Alexander Morris, who was put in a straitjacket, called racial slurs, and denied treatment for his potentially life-threatening heart condition when he told them he was the lead singer of the band he was lead singer of.
The lead singer ofĀ the Motown groupĀ the Four TopsĀ hasĀ filed a federal lawsuit againstĀ Ascension Macomb Oakland HospitalĀ in Warren, Michigan,
There are multiple parts of that article that are Jae droppingly awful but this one really gets me:
They almost let this man die in a straight jacket simply because they were too racist. And then when they realize their "mistake", they tell him that his life is worth a 25$ supermarket gift card. Of course he's suing them for $75,000 as he should but like. Can you imagine how insulted he must've been. The 4 Tops were one of the top Motown bands of all time. You can be at the top of the music scene and still, they'll kill you because you're black. And they'll use fake claims about mental illness and "aggression" to justify it
& to be clear: none of this is good for anyone. actually delusional people, people who actually hear voices or see things, do not deserve to be treated like this. there is nothing about a person harmlessly believing something fantastical (or which sounds fantastical to you) that requires you to put them in a straightjacket and drug them or deny them necessary drugs. Black mentally ill people do not deserve to be tortured and murdered in a hospital for being Black and mentally ill.
this kind of system is a weapon which can be pointed at anyone. in order to prevent shit like this from happening, we also need to deconstruct how we view mentally ill people, including people who are delusional and hallucinate, and what we view as "reasonable" or "necessary" when it comes to such people.
Black people- including famous black people- have been arrested for "breaking and entering" their own homes due to a neighbor witnessing them unlocking their own house door with their own house key and calling the cops. College professors, celebrities, politicians, and everyday people such as my own father.
It's common enough that young black kids are told to keep any identifying information on them at all times just in case someone reports a black kid breaking and entering by walking into the house they've lived at since they were born. Because that has happened.
When you add mental illness and the healthcare industry into the mix, things only get worse from there. To be clear, you don't need to be black or mentally ill to be treated poorly by a doctor or nurse that's decided they know you better than you do. But it sure doesn't make things easier.
And people have died as a result- or have we already forgotten the death of Adriana Smith who went to THE HOSPITAL SHE WORKED AT AS A NURSE reporting severe headaches and was dismissed as exaggerating and imagining the severity, only to be declared brain dead upon arrival less than 24 hours later and artificially kept alive to force her dead body to carry her baby to term- which couldn't even happen and they had to remove him via C-section anyway.
These are related problems. And until we fix the root cause, they will keep happening.

Property Is Theft
The line is Proudhon's, from 1840, and it is usually quoted in order to be dismissed. Taken literally it sounds like a paradox: theft presupposes property, so how can property be theft? Taken loosely it sounds like an attack on your toothbrush.
It is neither. It is a precise claim about a specific thing, and the specificity is the whole argument. To see it, you need the distinction the slogan compresses: the difference between possession and property.
Possession
Possession is use. The home you live in, the tools you work with, the garden you tend, the clothes on your body. Your claim to these things rests on a plain fact: you occupy them, you use them, you made them or maintain them. Possession is a relationship between a person and a thing, mediated by nothing but use itself.
No anarchist has ever proposed abolishing this. The toothbrush is safe. So is the home, the workshop, the field a family actually farms. Possession is not merely tolerated in the world we want. It is secured there, more firmly than property law has ever secured it, because no one holds a superior claim over your head.
Property
Property is something else. Property is the right to a thing you do not use, held against the people who do. The landlord's title to the apartment the tenant lives in. The owner's claim on the factory the workers run. The deed to land the deed-holder has never seen.
Notice what this right consists of. Not use, by definition: someone else is using the thing. What the title grants is the power to charge for access. Rent from the tenant, interest from the borrower, profit from the worker. Proudhon had a name for this yield, the right of increase: income that flows to ownership as such, detached from any labor, any use, any contribution.
That is the theft in the slogan. Not the original acquisition, though the histories of those are ugly enough. The theft is ongoing and structural. Every month the tenant produces value and the title collects it. The extraction is not an abuse of property. It is property, doing exactly what it is for.
The clearest case
Land shows the mechanism with nothing to obscure it. No one made the land. No labor is mixed into its existence, no invention, no risk. It was here before any claimant and will remain after all of them.
Yet land is owned, and its owners collect. A location becomes valuable because a city grows around it: because other people built, worked, moved in, made the neighborhood worth being in. The title-holder did none of this, and captures the value of all of it. Ground rent is a tax levied by owners on the existence of community.
Follow any land title backward and you arrive at a seizure. Conquest, enclosure, colonization, a state grant to someone the state favored. The paper trail is long but the trailhead is always force. Property in land is theft twice over: once at the origin, and again every day it collects.
What is true nakedly of land is true of capital in a subtler register. The factory was built by labor, purchased with the proceeds of prior extraction, and operated by everyone but its owner. The claim differs from the land title in its paperwork, not its function.
The objections
"I worked for what I own." Then you are describing possession, and no one disputes it. Labor justifies a claim to what you use and what you made. It does not justify a perpetual claim on other people's labor. The question is never whether you worked once. The question is why working once entitles anyone to collect forever from those working now.
"Without property, no one would build or improve anything." People build and improve what they possess, constantly, everywhere, without needing to extract from anyone. What property incentivizes is not building. It is acquiring claims over what others build. The landlord's incentive is not to create housing but to own it; scarcity raises the rent, so scarcity serves him.
"Abolishing property means taking my home." It means the opposite. Your home, the one you live in, is possession, and it becomes unassailable. What ends is the claim standing above homes: the portfolio, the title held for extraction, the right of one person to charge another for shelter. The people with something to lose are not the people who live in their houses. They are the people who own yours.
After property
A world of possession without property is not a fantasy of shared toothbrushes. It is a simple rearrangement: claims follow use. Homes belong to those who live in them. Workplaces belong to those who work them. Land belongs to no one, and its value, created by everyone, returns to everyone.
Nothing about this requires new kinds of people. It requires removing one legal fiction: the enforceable right to collect without contributing. Everything else, the working and building and dwelling, people already do. They have simply been billed for it.
