been doing a LOT of analog note-taking / journaling / planning lately (new years' resolution fulfilled! yes!), and I've slowly but surely started writing mostly in cursive again.
that said, I'm old (almost 35, ew) so I have questions.
when you're writing on paper, you use...
cursive pretty much ALWAYS
MOSTLY cursive
roughly equal cursive / printing
MOSTLY printing
printing pretty much ALWAYS
what's cursive?
what's paper?
if you want to RB this and put you age / locale / whatever else you think is relevant in the tags, that'd be very cool
Help me save my child from his serious illness, which could lead to the worst things if we do not treat the situation 🚨
I am Najwa Muqdad from Gaza, a mother of four young children. I have twins Ahmed and Mayar, and Al-Waleed and Mira.
Ahmed suffered from convulsions in his head and increased electricity after his birth. He was medication and had blood tests done every two months to ensure that his health was stable. He suffered from these convulsions in 2021. Due to the instability of the medication and the lack of its availability, we are facing difficulties in purchasing medications due to their high prices. Now life has become very difficult and the prices of medications have increased due to their scarcity. Things have become more difficult due to the lack of money and his expensive treatment, which led to its unavailability due to money. I hope that all donors and supporters will not forget Ahmed in the costs of his treatment and buying the appropriate medication and food for him. We also do not forget his brothers from the malnutrition that they suffered during this difficult period. I hope that everyone will pay attention to the matter and I was cut off from you for a period due to the health situation. I hope that this situation will be taken very seriously. The lives of my children are in grave danger and I hope that you will not suffer from what he suffered. May you always be safe and healthy for your children and loved ones. I hope that you will help in his treatment and stabilize his condition, which has worsened over time. Save Ahmed from this disease that has afflicted him, please.
Now we live in dilapidated tents, and my child is unable to
To endure
We are no longer able to provide the necessities of life. My family's future is completely destroyed. I can no longer live in Gaza. I want to leave it and treat my child outside the Gaza Strip, so I need $5,000 per person.

To get out of Gaza and find treatment and a better life for my children and family.
I am asking for help and I hope you will help me and donate to me
To save my life from death
Donate, even if 25$
I hope you can donate even $25, it would be great.

My heroic friends who support the Palestinian cause... Today, after we have lost hope in this world, I ask you to help us and stand by

Once I spoke with a girl who told me a friend had invited her to a pool party, but she didn't want to go because the friend's mom had HIV.
I told her that this was a common concern, but HIV can't be transmitted by sharing a pool, and in fact HIV is such a weak virus that it can't even survive on a table for more than a few hours, and it can be killed entirely by bleach.
She asked me, "if you can kill HIV with bleach, why haven't we cured it yet?"
I told her, "because we can't put Bleach into people without killing them".
She said that this was interesting, but she still wasn't going to go.
(We did not become friends.)
The other day, I saw a group of teenage boys climbing all over an electrical box in town.
I walked over and asked if they were aware this was an electrocution risk.
One of them asked what I meant. I pointed to the large yellow image of a stick man with a lightning bolt through its chest and repeated, "it has an electrocution warning on it. Don't get blown up."
The kid laughed and said, "hey, play at your own risk, right?" And went back to his buddies.
I went back to what I was doing, but kept an eye out, and did notice that within the next five minutes, the whole group had removed themselves from the box and were now gathered several feet away from it.
I can't make people do things. I can inform, and support, but I cannot make their choices.
This is something that is hard to learn.
The second story is also a great example of the way people can seem completely resistant to what you say to them, but with a bit of time away from you they take it on board and act on it. I work in guidance and sometimes see this happening, but often you don’t get to know what lasting impact your words have on someone once they go their own way.
Every time I start feeling a little guilty for no reason about staying up writing until 3am, or sleeping in past 10, I think about that Hunter S. Thompson daily routine that’s like. 3pm: Wake up. 4pm cocaine. 4:30pm cocaine. 5pm cocaine. 6pm smoke a little weed. 7pm Loiter. 9pm start doing coke seriously 12am midnight: Start writing. Just for a little perspective like, I could be doing worse. I could be doing in fact so much worse.
Like look at this

I don't think fantasy writers play enough with the concept of the different fantasy races having distinct ethnicities. Like imagine a group of mixed peoples, where the dwarves are all roasting each other like dwarves do, and one of them remarks that when he first saw one of the other dwarves in the group, he mistook her for a man. The other dwarves in the group blink in surprise - the closest that dwarves will go to an audible gasp of shock - and she pulls out a knife and tries to stab him.
Once the dwarves have been separated from each other and the situation has calmed, one of the humans asks another dwarf what that incident was about. Naturally a human woman would have been insulted too, but dwarves are so jovial about insulting each other, why was this matter different?
And the dwarf who was asked explains that there are things you can brutally insult another dwarf about, and there are things you simply do not touch. The dwarf-woman in question is from a completely different region of The Great Underground as the others, and her people have different norms about what kind of patterns men and women braid into their beards. The dwarf insulting her wasn't only insulting her appearance, he was being racist.
The human is surprised to learn that dwarves have different peoples, and the dwarf looks at them like at an idiot. Of course they do, they even look completely different from each other. And the human listens as the dwarf lists off various distinguishing clothing details too nuanced for a human to notice, and then how dwarves coming from different corners of the world have different physical traits, according to what kind of conditions their local stone types dictate.
The human spots a connection and goes oh! We have that too, though ours are not about rock types and tunnel air, but the weather aboveground. Humans' facial features vary by how hot, cold, arid or windy their ancestors' homelands were, and our skin tone varies by how much the sun shines in their native region.
The dwarf frowns at the last part, going "I thought you people just paint your skin and dye your hair for fun", and the human admits that yeah, we do that too, but not all the time, and not the whole skin. The dwarf asks, what of that tall woman the colour of dravite, her palms and the soles of her feet were lighter than the rest of her. Does that mean she paints herself dark to be more beautiful?
The human says no, that just happens naturally. Maybe it's because one's palms and feet aren't exposed to the sun as much, so they are paler.
The dwarf nods, still unsure whether this is actually legit or just the human habit of lying for fun, and proceeds to ask about the wild northman of their party. He is as pale as an olm, but the palms of his hands and the soles of his feet are dark. Are they painted, or naturally that way?
No, the human answers. That guy just doesn't bathe.

I'm Areej I was an English teacher before war and everything change after October 7. Also I'm a creative writer at we are not numbers.
Also I am a mother of three children. We have lived through the war for a year and a half, and we have lost everything we own. My husband is a man who did not work before the war and even now. And I lost my job in teaching because of the current situation, the school was destroyed and many of my poor students was died by the missiles 😭
So i did not have a breadwinner or any source of income . But I didn't give up to teach so I volunteered to teach some students near my camp in IBM Rushed school. There where many family were displaced from the north of Gaza. Actually it was a good chance for me to know more people and to try to engage students with English after this bad war. I held many activities with the for fun and learning and they were happy for this great chance so I hope to return to have my project to enable more students to engage with my voluntury work. I hope you help me and understand my holy target for helping students in their education. 🙏🙏🙌💯
Your help also will also help me in rebuilding my own family home.
Today, after the war, the truce has entered its first phase in Gaza, and I now live in a tent and do not have a house after it was destroyed by missiles. I now ask you to help me rebuild my house. And buy basics for the daily essentials for my children and I need money so that we can stand up again and start again.
This war wasn't easy at all it has taken many friends at work, students and some of my colleagues at the university. They are almost ten souls I won't never forget . Their laughter, their presence, their love… all of it is gone, leaving behind memories that are both precious and painful. Every day, I carry the weight of their loss, but I also carry their spirit, which gives me the strength to keep going.
Ours daily suffering in this bad war 😭🥺
Here’s what life in Gaza looks like for my family right now in tents when it rain
🏠 Safety: The uncertainty of tomorrow weighs heavily on us.
😢 Loss: The absence of my students and my friends is really hurts.
💔 Dreams on Hold: The future feels so far away when survival takes all our strength.
Life : it becomes harder

Why Your Support Matters
Your kindness isn’t just about helping us meet our goal—it’s about reminding us that we’re not alone in this fight. It’s about hope. It’s about survival. And it’s about giving my family a chance to rebuild our lives, even in the face of unimaginable loss. Also I need to rebuild my future and to start building my project to teach students who are in need so my friend it will be great from you to help you this war destroy everything and many schools here in Gaza
Please help my future to be better and give me hope again with your humanity and passionate everything can come true 🙏❤️
I'm looking forward seeing this smile again on my students faces. I'm so optimistic and so thrilled to see you be part for this humane deed ❤️🙏

I am Ahmed from Gaza. My family of 7 and I are living in very difficult circumstances. I am sending you from hell. I hope you are well, my dear. Please help me. Our tent is torn and if it rains, the water will flood our tent at any time. We have no other shelter. I cannot provide winter clothes for me and my brothers to protect us from the cold that has begun. I cannot provide basic needs. In addition, my brother's wife is about to give birth and newborn babies cannot tolerate the cold. Please help me to escape from hell. $50 is enough to buy a new tent and winter clothes. Please help me, my dear. We live in very difficult circumstances. Do not leave us. Be with us so that we can overcome these difficult circumstances.ttps://www.gofundme.com/f/help-ahmed-and-his-family-survive-in-gaza-crisis

Turns out the horsemen of the Apocalypse now prefer to go by Shareholder Profit, Private Equity, Corporate Personhood, and Workforce Optimization.
Shareholder Profit: War (the casus belli for attacks on workers' rights)
Private Equity: Pestilence (they are parasites that voraciously strip the value out of a healthy business until it withers and dies)
Workforce Optimization: Famine (cutting hours and employees until the business is starved of staff, barely functioning)
Corporate Personhood: Death (a hollow, shambling mockery of a human with rights and needs)
Yeah I can work with that.
If Tumblr really wanted to break the entire website, they should give us Boops on March 15th.

Hello everyone, please listen to the words of @aydaabushanab who has reached out to me asking for help.
Every child deserves a childhood, every child deserves a chance to live, to be warm and safe and have food and water. In Gaza, these things are scarce. Aida's daughter Ghala is in urgent need of medical treatment, yet because of the high cost of living and little income, she does not have the funds necessary for her family.
Your donations and support mean the world. Don't think for a second that your donation is worthless, any contribution, no matter the size are a step towards offering better loves and quality of life. Don't ignore this- you can save lives!! Please offer what you can spare. Any action taken goes a long way.

There was a TikTok post about an advertisement for “blood-making pills for weak women” someone found in a newspaper from the 1890s and everybody seemed to think it was just an example of the weird misogyny of the day and age but no. Anemia was a massive public health concern. It always has been through history but part of the reason we have this idea of old timey women thought history being physical weak, chronically cold and pale and fainting is because they often they were. Anemia was also a massive problem for men in that day but even now it disproportionally affects people who menstruate. So tonics full of stimulants and “healthful vitamins” were marketed at young women in pages upon pages of advertisements in every newspaper. People generally felt like shit all the time back then.
I've seen old folk remedies for anemia, particularly cooking with cast iron and putting rusty nails in an apple, leaving them in overnight, then removing the nails and eating the rust-infused apple.
It was A Whole Thing.
What’s interesting is that that would have worked better than a lot of the ‘medicines’ being hawked during that time. To this day, adding a small chunk of iron to a cooking pot with a mild acid is being used to prevent iron deficient anemia.
Yep! Absolutely. It was a much more pervasive and deadly problem throughout history because of a lack of dietary variety and medical science not completely understanding the needs of the human body. Now it is less common because many foods are fortified with additional minerals and multivitamins are inexpensive and widely available.
people forget but before enriched flour people DIED like all the time of pellagra. a literal vitamin deficiency. people also died of tooth decay... until antibiotics and floriated water. people died and were paralyzed for life because they swam in the summer, or just drank water, or ate out at a restaurant of polio and cholera and typhoid until vaccines and effective health codes. it was expected that like a third of all kids born would die from things the MMR vaccine prevents.
learning about the history of public health is SO important to understanding why scary chemicals are WAY less scary than life without them.
If you don't take a daily iron supplement during your period (especially if they're heavy), I HIGHLY recommend it. I saw an immediate difference when I started taking one, it completely got rid of the chills I used to get during my period and got rid of the headaches that were period-related. (The recommended RDA is 18 mg for menstruating women, which is what I took.)
Globally, it is estimated that 40% of all children aged 6–59 months, 37% of pregnant women and 30% of women 15–49 years of age are affected by anaemia.
WHO fact sheet on anaemia, including definitions, symptoms, causes, treatments and WHO response.
