I disagree, character development. Dean WAS the obedient son, the perfect soldier - but to John. Not to anyone else. Now that John's gone, the rule book is gone. Sam who was the wild card with obeying rules his father placed down, is now more a stifle for rules compared to Dean cause he believes in law and order (he was going to be a lawyer for chucks sake). But he trusts Dean and follows him. Now that Deans ideas and leadership skills aren't hindered by John he's become the person he always truly was. I do believe Sam has amazing leadership skills but he trust and believes in his big brother so he let's him take the lead. A character can't stay stagnant forever.

I feel this spiritually. Deep in my soul 😂😂😂

Yes it’s called the mammalian diving response and it’s also why doing face masks and taking a shower is soothing. Our amphibian ancestors used this mechanism to slow down the heartbeat and lower body temperature so as not to waste calories while swimming (which is very calorie intensive). It makes you feel safe because predators are less likely to get you in water than on land. The fish brain is alive and well in all of us.
