i think part of why counterweight works is that rigour isn’t the source of all ills. rigour is capitalism but it isn’t just capitalism it’s also exploitation of labor in general, and it isn’t the origin of capitalism or the only reason it exists—society is plenty shitty and exploitative before it wakes up, and has been since before it was made. the sign and signifier stand side by side. and it also understands that killing the monster is only the beginning. i feel like a lot of the-monster-is-capitalism make that the only source of those problems when it’s so much more insidious than that.

this is going to sound like a joke but I want to be clear that I am 100% completely sincere when I say this like I genuinely believe what I'm about to say. if the Oklahoma City Thunder win 1 more game and get to hoist that Larry O'Brien trophy up in front of millions of fans, it will have a greater negative material impact on this country and the rest of the world than the last 3 US presidential elections combined.
