Ngl "being so vapid and easy to influence that the neo-nazis and Israeli government are passing you back and forth" is quite a funny bit
rating the ways my family members have referred to me to other people since coming out as nonbinary
my secondborn (my parents)
7/10
sounds vaguely historical but in the way that I'm going to be sent off to war to prevent a succession crisis
potentially confusing to the listener bc the average conversation has little relation to birth order
my sister's, [name] (my aunt)
9/10
direct and to the point!
still very clear about what our family relationship is. I think we can do away with many nouns if this is any indication
my young adult child (my mom)
4/10
it's giving "20 year old minor"
I promise you can just say my kid. it's ok I don't mind strangers thinking I'm like 5 bc that would make me a prodigy for doing stuff like my laundry and dishes in one day and honestly I could use that kind of support
my liberated one (my grandma)
10/10 THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT
completely unclear what my relationship actually is to her. her personal oracle perhaps?
made immensely funnier by her immediately following it up with referring to my brother as her grandson.
this sounds like a party to me
I see your Yuna bolts upright in the middle of the night with: He was in the elevator! and I raise you: Yuna bolts upright in the middle of the night with: I said fuck him right up the butt!

My mom has told me about this video multiple times. It seems to define parenting for her. I get it now.
Weeeeee
In my head Shane is 14 when one of his coaches finds him on the ice doing extra drills after practice and he makes some Crack like, "Guess you're not a once in a generation talent after all." And Shane is surprised and doesn't know what he means, and thinks maybe he did something wrong? A stupid newspaper called him a generational talent a couple months ago and the kids on his team - well it's fine. They're still winning. "More like twice huh?" The coach finishes. He holds up a DVD in an unlabled jewel case (because it's 2005) "Got something you're going to want to see."
The coach takes him to the video room and puts the DVD in, "There's a kid in Russia, same age as you. They're saying he's the next Gordie Howe."
He presses play and they watch a shaky video of two Russian teams. Shane's heart starts racing as he watches. He can immediately tell who coach is talking about. One of them is clearly faster and smarter than the rest, moving through the defense with a slick confidence that Shane immediately finds fascinating.
"His name is uh," coach digs though a pile of paper, "Romanof or something." He finds what he's looking for, "Ilya Rozanov. He'll be draft eligible the same year you will."
Shane feels that same sense of determination, terror, and joy he always feels when one of his coaches talks about him getting drafted like it's a forgone conclusion. He keeps watching the kid on the ice, the same age as him, and very good, and also already set for the draft.
His play style is fascinating, and when his shift is over Shane grabs the remote to fast forward to the next time he gets on the ice, wanting to see more.
His coach laughs and claps him on the shoulder, "Don't worry about him too much. You won't be playing him for a couple of years."
Shane watches this boy skate around his teammates like it's easy, like he's bored, maybe as bored as Shane sometimes is with his own team. He can't wait.
I actually do think it’s better for abusers and abusive characters to realize the harm their past actions caused and seek to do better than be literally or metaphorically executed for their crimes

I think it’s better for abusers and abusive characters to realize the harm their past actions caused and seek to do better than be literally or metaphorically executed for their crimes.
Reading comprehension test:
1. Does OP mention an obligation on victims to forgive abusers who have learned from their past actions?
2. Does OP mention any work on the part of victims to educate their abusers?
3. Is there any mention of “redemption” or “forgiveness” at all in this post?
Something about how society cares more about punishing the wicked than about making the world a better place, and how many people really struggle to shake that.

gentrification is when trash goes in trash cans
the thing is that for all its supposed faults, i would take this brand of 90s utopian globalism over whatever the fuck we’ve been doing for the last 10 years in a heartbeat
a side effect of the fact that shane and ilya are not just husbands but also best friends is that i do in fact believe that shane calls ilya "dude" sometimes. he's a jock !! he's a jock and that's his best friend and the coolest and funniest person he knows like yes that's his man but that's also his dude !
it’s a random day on their honeymoon and ilya is at the pool with shane when he notices he’s without his sunglasses. so he heads back to the hotel to grab them from their room. he’s on his way to the elevator when the receptionist calls out “mr. hollander?” and ilya stops and is about to correct her when it hits him. he’s in fact mr. hollander. and he’s just standing there grinning like an idiot in front of the receptionist who is explaining something to him that he’s not listening to at all. and when the receptionist says again “mr. hollander?” ilya goes “i’m sorry, can you explain again?” with the sappiest grin on his face.
everyday i mourn that my parents did not make me study five languages during my critical window of language acquisition (2 to 7 years)
Hi! Language teacher here!
If there isn't a fluent speaker around to practice with regularly, it doesn't matter how many languages you make a small child study. They aren't going to speak any of them.
I can also confirm (anecdotally) that my adult students learned much quicker than any of the kids I worked with, and exponentially faster than any of the toddlers I taught.
If you want to learn a language, go learn it! You are fully capable of doing so as an adult, and you didn't miss any windows.

Thinking about Shane’s parents getting all excited about bringing chicken and beer for their dinner with Shane & Ilya… those two are so desperate to spend time with Shane and his partner, and Ilya is going to be so loved
I think if Shane hadn’t gotten injured Ilya would’ve gone over to his place and made one weak attempt at breaking things off. Shane would’ve gotten teary and said, “No.” Resolutely, with just a hint of a wobble in his voice, and Ilya would just softly go, “Okey.” He’d sigh and think to himself, “Well I tried,” as he starts kissing Shane and walking him up the stairs backwards.
