Fucking millennials killing the millennial industry!
Today I bring you the story of Mieke Gorissen
Mieke is a 38 year old Belgian Physics and Maths teacher. In February Mieke said she wanted to run a marathon for funsies and surprised everyone by running the Olympic limit in that race.
Today she ran the Olympic marathon in Tokyo, where her plan was just to finish the marathon and hopefully not finish last. (Especially since it was HOT as hell)
At the finish line she was already crying of joy because she finished the marathon. When she heard from the interviewer she got the 28th place out of 88 candidates, she could not believe it an started crying harder and saying “that’s not possible”.
For an amateur, Mieke her time and perseverance is unbelievable and highlights the beauty of the Olympics. Here’s to you Mieke, a true Olympian!!!
She's a knitter too! Just like Tom Daley. She picked up running in order to keep moving because her hobbies are knitting and reading science books. In 2018 she got a personal trainer to improve her technique on her 10km hobby runs, and turned out to be crazy talented. Her first marathon she had to hand in an "aimed for" time, and she aimed for the Olympic time limit because why not?
She ran far below that limit. Her second ever marathon was this Olympic marathon. And she didn't even put all her time and effort into training, no, she put all her time and effort in the final exams of her high school students. This was very much a side quest. Insane
“We wouldn’t have to deal with the Delta variant if it weren’t for a bunch of uneducated people refusing to get their vaccine”
No, we would still have had to deal with the Delta variant, because neither Trump nor Biden showed any interest in distributing US vaccine stockpiles internationally during the early months when it could have had the greatest impact in dampening Delta’s spread throughout India. Public health experts explicitly warned policymakers at the time that this vaccine nationalism would enable the global spread of variants. But this explanation doesn’t let anyone in America feel superior to anyone else, so it won’t catch on
Pfizer and Moderna have quite literally raised their vaccine prices after learning their vaccines are more effective against variants and are set to make 41 billion dollars more than it costs to make the vaccine.
People not wearing masks is a problem. People not getting vaccinated is a problem. But the bigger problem remains white imperialist greed.
frequently thinking about how god decided off the cuff that people should all speak different languages and therefore become divided culturally and interpersonally because if we managed to successfully organize and work together we would eventually reach and defeat him. OG fascist.
Are you implying the tower of Babel was the first union
Heresy.

Bruh why they green screen a bar ??? They can afford a set hello?
This isnt even the most egregious example, they cgi’d a tranquilizer gun in one of the spider-man movies
PDs, art directors, set decorators and set dressers have unions.
Post houses are run like sweatshops.
Fuck disney
Oh this all makes sense now. Capitalizm at work
On one hand, as a DM, I want to make my mysteries at least coherent enough for my players to follow and reasonably solve on their own.
On the other hand, “This family has a curse that turns them into trees when they turn 35 and the living members of the family are obsessed with turning their relatives into additions for their sprawling log mansion” is a fun idea and I refuse to give it up as a plot hook.
The nature of the curse was that the family was supposed to grow into a natural grove, free of control and constraint and eventually develop a sense of empathy with nature. By turning their own family members into furniture, they’ve twisted the nature of the curse so far that even the fair folk who cursed them stop and think they’ve gone too far.
Start with your classic Winchester mansion setup - eccentric family, probably noble, maybe got their money from logging? They live a bit away from the nearby town, and the locals don’t like going there. There are rumours of people going missing, and the family are constantly hiring new staff to attend to the steadily-increasing mansion.
By now your players are probably going to think vampires or a cult. Therein lies the red herring.
The players go up to investigate. Maybe they pose as labourers, or guards from the town. That’s when they find the mansion is currently having a new extension built. Inside is a chaotic sprawl of dead ends, doors to nowhere, rooms within rooms, stairways that go into the ceiling, that sort of thing. There is no floor plan. The staff don’t like going anywhere alone. The family seems very large, with lots of children, but nobody will give you a clear answer on how many people live there.
The family, again, are wealthy, vain and eccentric. They were nouveau riche, but that was long enough ago that they can almost be considered old money by this point. The apparent family matriarch is oddly young, barely middle-aged. Her eldest son (16) is gearing up to take over the family business. There are assorted aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, but no old folk. She insists her husband is ‘out’.
The family aren’t terrible, all things considered. They like to give tours of the house, and consider its architectural weirdness a charm point. They laugh at the incredible creepiness. You get used to it, they say. The staff don’t like to look at them. They’re all a bit artsy, and they love interior design - it’s why the keep expanding. The children aren’t creepy, but they are everywhere, usually gathered in flocks by harried-looking nannies. A headcount suggests dozens. Near the expansion you find a workshop making furniture for the new parlour. An uncle with big, tough hands. He barely notices when he nicks his finger with a chisel. He just looks at the wound with a tired resignation. He quickly smothers the injury with a rag when he notices the party. He’s the younger brother of the former, now-absent, patriarch.
Feel free to scatter more mysteries here. Talk to the workers and you find out that they constantly need new workers, but that’s because so many suddenly quit and leave. They don’t go back to the town. People disappear from the house, but it’s mainly the family. Older relatives, not young like you’d expect from vampires. A hidden portrait gallery, with hundreds of paintings. Nobody older than middle-aged at time of painting. The freshest painting looks like the matriarch’s eldest, but as a man, presumably his father. It was painted just last year. None of them have a date of death. A strange feeling of being watched in the newer bits of the building, and a tomb-like feeling in the hub. A beautiful, ethereal figure half-glimpsed in the background of several paintings, looking increasingly sour.
One night, an old crone arrives, begging shelter. When let in, though, she points at the matriarch and declares this whole place cursed, and if she had any love left in her ‘cold-wood heart’ she would tear this house to the ground and never come back. The crone leaves without another word.
At the end of the party’s stay, the family are ready to announce the grand opening of the new parlour. It’s rich, extravagant, all wood panels and hand-carved furniture. There’s a reception. The party might finally notice something weird about one of the chairs. The wood-grain almost looks like the jacket you saw in the patriarch’s painting. Whoops! Rumbled.
If you wanted a boss fight to close, this would be a good time for the uncle to transform. The party notice than his hands look less like skin now and more like gnarled wood. Too soon, he says. It’s his 35th birthday tomorrow, he says. Just one more night. The family look at him with a weird expression. Not fear. Certainly not sorrow. It’s almost ... hunger.
He begins to transform. He becomes a mighty tree monster, and bellows that they won’t take him alive. The fight commences. After he’s defeated, as a final blow, the new patriarch sunk a wood axe into his former uncle’s face. If necessary, the matriarch will explain.
The party leaves unable to cure the family’s mania. She assures them not to worry ... they’ve got plenty of material to repair the parlour now.

Sometimes I hyperfocus so hard on something, I forget I’m a person until someone interacts with me. I feel like some wild animal seeing a human being for the first time. I’m like “oh yeah I’m supposed to speak and stuff”
Me: *doing something for hours on end without stopping*
Someone: Hey, are you there? I was just wondering if you’d like to-

most people agree with the idea that everyone deserves a place to live but their support for this starts waning when you say everyone deserves a comfortable place to live. and by comfortable i mean an adequately sized home that’s safe. not somewhere that has a constant infestation or the water isn’t safe to drink or you have to bundle up under a million jackets and blankets bc you can’t afford heat during the winter or you sleep 5 to a room and 2 to a bed bc bigger places cost more than you can pay. all of this should NOT be a problem
people think “why should they get this for free when i work hard for it” like that’s the point !! you SHOULDN’T have to work hard for it. everyone deserves a comfortable and safe place to live period. regardless of who they are, what they do or don’t do, whether or not you like them, or if they have a job. bc the second you start saying “except for x people” it always comes back marginalized people and “x people” aren’t the ones suffering
the cdc really just kind of let anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers have their way huh
today marks two weeks after my second dose too but now i’m not gonna wanna go anywhere if everybody’s just gonna collectively ditch their masks. you think i’m gonna assume that every unmasked person i see IS fully vaccinated? you think these ppl are gonna be honest about it? in the united states of america?? i have to laugh
