i truly think a good portion of tumblr users don't realize exactly how painful it is to have a cigarette put out on you
"i be profen" .. uhhh okay? and michael be jordan
Big challenges
the replacement of websites with apps sounds so backwards when you actually describe it. like hmm you have to download an entire program onto your device each time you want access to a portal, where it takes up storage indefinitely. somebody should invent an app where you can "browse" any portal just by typing in its address... š„“

I feel like in the past ten years, boycotting has stopped being a tool for forcing action on specific policies and become a form of harassment and monastic self-denial. Less āI will not be giving my money to you until you improve these specific conditionsā and more ādonāt touch the contaminated thing, lest you also become contaminated.ā
Weāve also collectively forgotten how boycotts actually work. You need a lot of people (usually members of a large community or organization) to all collectively stop giving money to one specific entity until that entity changes its ways. And then the community or organization leaders have to publicly announce that they are all doing a boycott and state the conditions under which they will resume doing business with the entity.
You canāt do a boycott on your own, the company you boycott wonāt even notice.
You canāt boycott a dozen companies at once, that makes your boycott hard to join and doesnāt hit any of the companies hard enough for them to notice.
You canāt have an effective silent boycott, the company will blame some other factor.
You canāt do an indefinite boycott without conditions attached and act like the entity is forever evil and tarnished, that isnāt effective because then they have no incentive to change their ways and will keep being awful.
I support āvoting with your walletā and making personal decisions about who you will or wonāt buy from, but that isnāt inherently the same as a boycott and doesnāt make much of a difference in the grand scheme of things.
I notice something when it's laid out like this:
An effective boycott requires that the community/organization have a clearly defined leader/spokesperson or small group of leaders/spokespeople who can communicate with the entity being boycotted and the public on behalf of the community/organization.
The CEO/president/whoever has the authority to make the changes being demanded needs to have reason to believe that, when the leader/spokesperson says they're happy with the changes that have been made, the boycott will end. They also need to have reason to believe that there is some change that will be good enough to end the boycott, and the change can't cost more than they're losing because of the boycott.
You can't social media trend your way through a boycott.
Yes, you can call for public support, but the core community/organization needs to have a defined structure.
Between that, and the way an effective boycott requires a willingness to communicate with the entity being boycotted and accept imperfect solutions, it is fundamentally incompatible with the way the modern Left functions.

its actually easy to de-enshittify your digital experience all you need to do is install this browser extension and this browser extension and this browser extension and input this custom script into the advanced box and go into your system settings and reconfigure all these options you didnt know existed and change your entire workflow and switch to this alternative operating system and this alternative web browser and this alternative chat client and this alternative word processor and this alternative- sorry that one turned out to be malware delete that one okay now double check your task manager for unwanted background processes and element block these ads and invest in a good VPN and append all your searches with AI blocking keywords and wait a few years until everything you just did becomes shitty too so you can do it all over again okay kitten. its literally that easy.

no one cares that you shave your legs because of sensory issues shut the fuck up forever
really galling amount of people misinterpreting this post so i'd like to clarify. i'm saying that when discussions about patriarchal beauty standards and the way women are heavily shamed and coerced into eschewing their own natural state of being (hairy) are occurring, it is unhelpful (AT BEST) to interrupt and say that the reason YOU remove the hair from your body is because of sensory issues. that's not what we're talking about. stop asking for validation for doing something that society at large wants you to do. stop derailing the conversation because you feel uncomfortable about being made aware that you, for whatever reason it is, adhere to harmful, unfair and ridiculous beauty standards. you're stepping into the middle of an important conversation that needs to be had and making it all about you. shut the fuck up forever.
also quite frankly i think a lot less people would experience sensory issues if they let their hair grow out so that it isn't bristly and rough and irritating. and i cannot help but wonder why these sensory issues aren't as predominant in men. maybe you're uncomfortable with the hair on your body because you've been taught to be uncomfortable with it. just a thought.
And like. Do you have these same sensory issues in areas you don't shave, like arms and back? Are you dehairing your entire body over this sensory issue? If not, consider that you don't have a sensory issue so much as a "not used to the feeling of hair on legs because society has had you shaving them for years", and be pleased that if you let your hair grow back, your brain will dial the sensory input down once it's used to the new normal.
Ryan Goslingās career has just been one long quest to climb the Warner Bros water tower
that man has been trying to climb this tower since he was 16. he has asked multiple times, and every time they said no, but now heās famous enough & variety was able to convince them to do a shoot on the tower. it all led here. it was all for this.
Iām obsessed with the implication that this was a coming-of-age ritual where a boy becomes a man, like a bar mitzvah
