I think "fuck you, I hate your work and I will do it myself and I will do it better" is a really funny and epic sentiment. i started publishing poetry because an ex boyfriend of mine was publishing really ass poetry in a bunch of journals and I was like "Jesus christ, this is garbage, I could do that, and I could do it better." now I have a page in the Academy of American Poets and I've published a full length collection and his website says "former poet." You should win by succeeding way harder than they do. Spite is a legitimate energy source.
saw a video going on about how the show relies too much on telling and not enough with showing on jaxs behavior and bullying of the other characters and how can you call it a dark comedy if you dont push the asshole characters behavior hard enough because people are letting some of these actions fly over their heads
immediately followed by a video of someone calling jax the most vile and disgusting character ever and that its very concerning that the shows creator called jax her self insert at some point and implied that she is a dangerous and violent person due to this
i thought it was pretty obvious that jax is supposed to be a violently suicidal character and her behavior is aggressively forcing everyone away to isolate herself so no one will miss her when shes gone. like obviously her behavior still sucks for everyone around her and shes extremely insecure and projects that onto the people around her especially the women around her because shes a closeted trans girl and her misogyny is her trying to come across as more masculine so no one notices this. like yeah shes an asshole but like why would you want to watch something that doesnt have conflict between the characters
also shes not real. i think too many people see characters as a direct reflection of the authors beliefs and personality. sometimes people make characters that are not nice people

I get the importance of the transfem community warnings but sometimes I see shit like girls talking other girls out of trying to get their teaching certificates because of the potential for harassment from conservative parents and idk that's very real but also at a certain point we are just doing preemptive hiring discrimination to ourselves
Like on the one hand it is very real that societal transphobia would like to see us all unemployed, forced to do survival sex work. But also that's not the only reality available to us at this point! And sometimes I worry that we are self policing in a way by flooding so many trans girls with this message of "your only options are to get super good at onlyfans or be Raytheon's strongest coder" when like, so many of the women I know are teachers, home care workers, nannies, day care workers, postal workers. Not glamorous, but like, idk the world of lower middle class pink collar jobs is available to us more or less at this point. Other girls have office jobs, some girls have to work food service and retail. But we get to exist in some form besides either NEETs or internet famous porn girls. And obvi hiring discrimination is real, and obvi disability issues come into play for a lot of us that makes a lot of the work I just mentioned inaccessible. I'm not saying things are sweet out there. But there is a world out there where you can live. Maybe not in the exact way you want, maybe not super easily, but you can live.
and i don't mean some badass woman who doesn't need a man and can kill someone in 6 inch heels without breaking a sweat or smudging her perfectly set makeup or chipping a nail. she looks like she grew up in a soggy cardboard box on the side of the road all alone. she monologues dramatically to herself while looking over the corruption-riddled city she works in because she has no friends or hobbies and will literally do anything except go to therapy. she gets beat up in alleyways so blood and rain drip sexily from her nose and chin but when she gets to her feet she looks like a sad wet cat. women want her but they also pity her. instead of perfume she smells of coffee, whiskey and cigarettes, which are also more or less all she lives off of. her voice is more gravelly than a pit of rocks as a result of said diet. she hasn't slept or showered in at least 3 days and it's increasingly obvious. she's either divorced or feels like she should be.

idk guys sometimes you just have to accept a ship dynamic is unhealthy, insane, and sometimes abusive. and its not real people so those factors just make it interesting

okay see i don't want to be a dick because i'm not saying you're entirely wrong- showing abusive relationships and clarifying that they're abusive in media does help people recognize abuse in real life. it's probably a really good thing to include in media aimed at kids or 'family viewing'. but that's not what my post is about and it's not the only reason to write abusive fucked up relationships, and acting like it is flattens stories in a way that is ultimately really bad. and you're completely misinterpreting my post if you think the point of it was sometimes we should include Bad Relationships so Kids At Home Will Know Its Bad.
my point was that sometimes it is interesting to read about or write about really weird unhealthy relationships. not educational.
I don't think an author should have to preface their gothic horror with "and of course, fucking a guy whos secretly your cousin and maybe killed your mom is bad and i disavow". i don't think every fanfic that decides to make the love interest a rapist should end with "and he goes to jail, because that was a Bad Thing to Do, and the victim of his behavior went to therapy and got help dealing with the ramifications".
It's fictional. It's not real. It's not a PSA. sometimes the point is to deconstruct the viewpoint of a rapist who doesn't know they're a rapist. sometimes it's exploring how codependent two characters can get if you put them in a jigsaw trap and tie their legs together. sometimes the point is the author thinks it's sexy to imagine getting fucked at knifepoint. sometimes its literally just this:

please stop demanding an artist justify why they'd make an origami tiger and that they better publicly state they know that real tigers are dangerous. that the only reason to make an origami tiger is so that you can show it to people so they know what a tiger looks like and they know they're dangerous so they never go near a real tiger!
