hello! this is an introduction post because after a while here i am FINALLY doing things that aren't just reblogging. however the vast majority of what is On This Blog are reblogs. i don't talk a lot on here
anyways,
tags i use: #silver talks for once for my original posts, #silver writes for, well. my writing
my ao3 -> typeset
no idea if i'll move off of tumblr but if i do, i'll throw my cohost or something onto here probably?
further tags under these two categories with a bunch of posts + a bit more Stuff:
#fairytale fic - an in-progress fic, centered around edgejeanist from mha/bnha in an original world of mine. all lore is handmade by me (DISCONTINUED)
#tragedy fic - an in-progress fic, on ao3 (link here) also centered around edgejeanist. inspired by the concept of the not-them and the stranger from tma (ON HIATUS)
i forgot the tags for my other old edgejeanist stuff, but shoot me an ask and i'll see what i can do if you're interested!
#anon asketh - anon asks. i have not gotten an ask thats not on anon but if i do they'll be tagged with this too. (i have gotten many asks that are not on anon now!)
#not-anon asketh asks that... aren't on anon. yeah
smut/not sfw content will be tagged appropriately (usually with #smut/nsft and under the mature tag tumblr added. often, they [meaning the whole thing] will be put on ao3 and not tumblr)
#silver's polls - polls yeah. nods wisely
#oc: NAME HERE - my oc tag. currently i think lin anping might be the only one?
i usually dont tag reblogs so good luck finding those buddy. exceptions for random posts i tag #CHARACTERNAMEHERE with. i should start doing this more
i love asks. send me asks. they are so fun to answer in all types and kinds!!!
also: as you might be able to tell, i am currently fixating on edgejeanist and most original content will probably be for them! | it's now svsss. hello liu qingge. i didn't expect you. jeanist and shinya will always have a place within my heart. make way kids you've got a new roommate | i didn't expect star wars niche character #1293820302 but what can i say!! the heart wants what it wants

what gets me is that there's no equivalent tma-tme language for any other system of oppression that i can think of. i saw a post a few weeks ago saying this wasn't true because of terms like ablebodied and nonblack, but like. that's very much not the same thing, when i say this i mean the [type of oppression] exempt/affected language specifically. like, i wouldn't say i'm "racism-exempt," i'd just say i'm white, and that already communicates that i'm not a person of color and therefore not targeted by racism. or, like, i wouldn't say i'm "audism-exempt" i'd say i'm hearing - i'm disabled, so i experience ableism, but i'm not deaf/hoh so i don't experience audism. and it'd feel not just weird but actively wrong and dehumanizing to call people racism-affected or audism-affected instead of just saying they're a person of color or they're hard of hearing. and we already have words for "tma" or "tme" too: "transfem" + "trans woman" or "not a trans woman/transfem." which is more specific and a million times less dehumanizing. but considering how often "tme" is used to mean "transmascs" without directly saying that, & to imply trans people who aren't transfem have it easier (because we're not "transmisogyny-affected" & they consider that the most Important axis of oppression), i don't think people are going to be willing to actually hear out criticism of the term anytime soon
additionally if "tma" and "tme" are meant to mean transmisogyny affected and exempt respectively. then calling people "TMEs" doesn't make sense. but i see that all the time because it's being used as shorthand for "transmascs," or often, "people who have it easier than i do." and many posts about "tmes" don't make sense if you assume that "tme" refers to cis people as well as transmascs and intersex people.
Hey yeah so this post literally kept me alive for like 6 months. Thank you. And OP is so right. Everyone on this island became my best friends. And guess what? Now they can't wait to meet *you* and they talk about you every single day.
one of the guys in the kitchen at work got called irritating and replied “I am not irritating. You just find me irritating. There are many people who love me.” I think we should all adopt his attitude

okay, we managed to get through the “you can be gay and not have sex” part, and im feeling charitable and i wanna talk about the “do crime” part
so many responses of “its nice that you’re privileged enough to be able to steal from Target willy nilly!” and that’s not at all what this is about. like, yeah, shoplifting and loitering and graffiti and breaking the rules is, obviously, part of “do crime”. but they’re not parts you have to do.
would you help someone get an abortion where it was illegal?
would you help a trans friend get healthcare that had been criminalized?
would you shelter someone fleeing persecution, even if the law said not to?
would you help a gay couple stay together when the state decided their relationship was unlawful?
instead, would you report someone else for breaking the law? will you snitch on your hungry neighbors for stealing food? on your homeless neighbors for sleeping where they’re able?
would you break laws to protect someone you love? a community you love? yourself?
I cannot begin to express enough how strangers online will create an uncharitable persona of you and fabricate a whole backstory of your life that is barely tangentially related to what you said just to get to be derisive at something
[Image ID: text which reads: "nooo I hate unconditional love in my fiction, I fucked up all my relationships with petty bullshit and can only consume media I relate to!!!!" /.End ID]
A question I get asked a lot while working at a public library is "how do you deal with homeless people?"
And the answer is, we don't.
The unhoused people who come here seeking refuge 99% of the time understand that they will be kicked out if they misbehave.
The people you have to watch out for are Jessica, who only came because the kid she didn't want had to visit for a homework assignment and she just *needs* to yell at her child for asking to borrow two books or stay an extra five minutes, or Michael, who came in to look at porn on our computers for whatever fucking reason, or Karen who just wanted to come by to throw a fit that the particular book she wanted was checked out and harrass our staff about our collection being too limited.
99% of the time, the people we need to ban are middle to upper-middle class white people while the homeless and mentally ill/disabled people mind their own damn business and are honestly some of the best patrons we have.
I bring this up because today we had a man come in. He stopped at the desk, pulled up a chair and said "I'm newly homeless and was living in my car. I'm disabled. It was impounded. It's raining. I don't have a phone and I don't know where to go tonight."
And we did what we could to help. He was incredibly kind and patient despite his obvious anxiety and stress, more than most able bodied, housed patrons are to us under much less dire conditions. I liked knowing that we were the first place he came.
We have so many people like this who come in everyday. Many are quiet and keep to themselves, but sometimes they talk to us.
They tell us about how they're taking a few courses on a scholarship they applied for from our library's computer at the local community college to get their diploma. Or ask about a manga or dvd or book we might have to help them pass the time.
One woman, who comes in daily with her tattered walker always says hello to me and likes to work on the new jigsaw puzzle with me when we set one out.
So like, treat unhoused people like people. Treat disabled people like people. I don't want my library to feel like the only safe space in the world, but I'm glad it can be one of them.
I'm so sick of hearing about how "the homeless are ruining everything" when they are some of the kindest, most respectful people here. Sometimes they mutter, might not have had a place to shower, and might need a little extra space for their backpacks but that's FINE. It Doesn't Matter Actually. None of that is a problem or any of my business to care about (unless they request help/services), and I also don't think it's any of yours.
I am constantly seeing people trying to puzzle out what's "ruining books" and it makes me more and more tired. Read a different book. You have more choice in reading material than at any other point in all of history. No one thing can be ruining ALL of them.
"Are trope-obsessed tiktok book pitches ruining books?" Go read something that wasn't marketed on tiktok. There's so much of it. Is this a problem for would-be authors trying to get traditionally published? Possibly, I don't know, I'm not familiar with the market. Is it a problem for readers? Of course not. Stop being stupid.
"Okay Derin, how can I find books without scrolling tiktok or booktube for them, or only looking at the goodreads front page?":
Try a genre that isn't currently On Trend. If you don't like the current romantasy bestsellers because they all follow the same tropes in order to game the tiktok algorithm, try something that isn't romantasy.
Read something written before 2010. There are plenty of amazing books being written right now also, but if your problem is with current trends specifically, go read the books that people were complaining were "ruining literature" twenty years ago. They're great.
Walk into any second-hand bookshop and just start looking around. There will be a lot of the thing you don't like there and there will also be a lot of other stuff, some of which you do like.
Make friends who like the same sorts of books as you.
This might only apply to me, but I get a lot of recommendations by simply being into vaguely philosophical video essays. If you follow a lot of the Jacob Geller Types on youtube or nebula then you will get more truly awesome science fiction recommendations than you know what to do with.
Write a web serial and every few days somebody will pop into your inbox saying "this thing you wrote kind of reminds me of [x], have you read it?" and it's almost certainly something you've never heard of in your life but now you have another story to check out that you know touches on themes you've demonstrated interest in.
If you find yourself in truly desperate straits, go to tvtropes.org and type in a trope you like. Scroll down to 'examples'. There's a whole long list there of stories about a killer on a leash, or battle couples, or whatever else you're in the mood to read about today.
Read Time to Orbit: Unknown, which is a story that I'm super unbiased about, you can definitely trust me when I say that you specifically will like this no matter who you are, I totally wouldn't lie to you.

NOTICE FOR PSYCHOTIC PEOPLES LIKE ME AND THE NEW TOMODACHI LIFE: Please please pretty pretty please be careful while playing Living the Dream, esp if you’re currently unmedicated!!!
The game treats the Miis like they’re real people and makes zero mention ever that they are not, and only ever refers to them and their POV as if they are real and you are their caretaker! While playing this honestly messed with my head pretty badly at times and made me worry a lot on if I was hurting real people/not doing enough for real people while I was playing!
I cannot imagine how much worse this would be for someone who’s unmedicated, non-dormant, or experiencing breakthrough symptoms! Do please be careful and PLEASE remember to have a way to reality check yourself while playing the game!!!
Also: If you’re not psychotic, please reblog this anyway!!! It may not seem like a big deal to you but these kinds of things are REALLY important to know for us psychotic folk in a world that is both hostile and negligent to us and our needs!!!

i think it's unfortunate that though games like the sims and the new tomodachi life are getting lauded for their lgbt representation (which is great and necessary, don't get me wrong), i haven't seen much discussion about how they severely lack any kind of disability representation. no wheelchairs or other mobility aids like canes or crutches, no amputee options. sims 4 only recently added blood glucose monitors and hearing aids in create-a-sim, but there's no gameplay functionality to go with them. i was trying to make a disabled oc in tomodachi life and i just think it sucks that lots of folks still can't make a character that truly represents them, even in 2026.
