both of them are me
Remember when Lil Nas X beautifully explored his sexuality, seduced and killed the devil to the banger of all time, and instead of cheering on this openly gay and proud Black artist for his artistry and fighting back against respectability politics, suddenly said respectability politics was all the Queerest Place on the Internet cared about? Hm. Wonder what happened there.
Anyway I miss him and hope he's doing better with his mental health 🙏🏾
Like say what you want about "bad queer representation", but this was the song that made me openly and happily accept that I was bisexual. To see him up there Black and beautiful, making music that I love, absolutely killing it? Yeah. You couldn't tell me shit. This man made me proud to be out. "This will make them think we're evil for being gay" hey newsflash dawg-
it never ceases to upset me when i follow a queer/trans content creator and then they randomly out that theyre transandrophobic. it just really fucking sucks

Very hard to internalise "its just a small group of people!" when explicitly transphobic and anti-transmasculine posts get thousands of likes and reblogs.
Give it up for freezing your dick off transmasc winter
I bring a real 'actually people who are pregnant do deserve some special consideration because they are effectively at least temporarily disabled if not permanently after some complications' vibe to the party that a lot of people don't seem to like
Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as “problematic” in class and our professor was like, “That’s cool, but ‘problematic’ doesn’t really mean anything. It means that the thing you’re describing has a problem, and in and of itself that’s not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else it’s not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like you’re trying to say that this is bad, but you don’t want to say ‘bad.’ Is that right?”
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”
Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I can’t help but think of this professor being like, “Good starting point, now let’s get specific.” I think when we have to commit to saying “that’s ___” it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever we’re claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes it’s art, and it should be full of problems, because that’s what art is.
#'this is present in the text' is often a good first step #but those second and third ones (naming it; describing its function) are vital (via @elucubrare)
grace, who has been alone for five minutes: oh my god. an alien! im not alone anymore! i hope he wants to be friends :)

Well. He's as close to being "on Rocky's chest" as possible considering the circumstances
even if it were true that trans women have "male criminality patterns" grouping them with cis women in every situation would still be the more humane option that protects the people most at risk so I just don't really care either way
like arguing those stats is important, it's important to establish that trans women are not inherently dangerous, but even if what radfems say about trans women's likelihood to commit violent acts were true my answer would remain "suck it up ig" because the risks to trans women are still a million times greater than the risk they would pose to cis women
a lot of radfems understand this instinctively because they say things like "I don't want trans women to be harmed, but..."
like okay if we're operating on triage logic where we have to take some losses to prevent worse harm then trans people are coming first every single time, trans women are always less privileged and more in danger than cis women
and the only defense to this is "well that's male on male crime I don't care what males do to each other" like damn Joanne nice deflection but that doesn't change the fact that a subset of people AMAB are objectively more oppressed than you
Anytime i see a bunch of pride flags i have to restrain myself from saying "where mexico" bc i doubt anyone will know I'm referencing this
picture i got at pride last week; here mexico
This is very dumb but hey
the reason we really REALLY need to underscore that everyone can perpetuate misogyny is because otherwise you get "i'm literally [QUEER IDENTITY] i can't be being misogynistic right now!" when someone is absolutely, unquestionably perpetuating extreme misogyny
What's annoying me is people acting like transmascs talking about issues that affect them is taking away the attention from trans women. If anything we should probably get all of the issues we face and say "see? Society as a whole is transphobic". No one is arguing that transmascs have it worse than transfems. That's the same thing that happened back in the ace discourse where gay people claimed aces wanted to "take away attention from homophobia" and argue they "have it worse" when that was pretty much no the case.

For like ten years now I've been telling Americans that we have our equivalent of Trump but they're, like, two people instead of one. we have a racist one and a rich one. they're both basically Trump but two different aspects of him and it's fucking awful but they didn't do as much damage as Trump because they didn't associate.
unfortunately. they have now made friends
