"Techno's reaction to Tommy's death was objectively very cruel, given that he was a literal child who permanently died" and "Techno's character most likely responded to his death with feigned happiness because he has a history of being unwilling/unable to healthily acknowledge or express his negative emotions in relation to people he cares about" are two statements that can and should coexist.

me explaining to the other trainers that apricorns are unknown outside of Johto because of deliberate suppression by the Silph and Devon corporations to present artificial pokeballs as the only means of capturing pokemon and establish regional monopolies after they eliminate renewable sources
(via @itsbenedict)
eternalfarnham replied to your post
youâre in the pocket of Big Ball, I see
thereâs no pocket for me to BE in, thereâs no LOBBYING involved, thereâs no SUPPRESSION campaign because you donât need one! traditional methods suppress themselves when you make modern pokĂŠballs available. you might as well start accusing AT&T of deliberately suppressing the noble traditional art form of the goddamn semaphore.
not to mention OP demonstrates a total lack of understanding of the market realities of the pokĂŠball industry- Silph and Devon are not monopolies, if they werenât in constant competition their magic monster domination spheres wouldnât cost two bucks a pop. the ball spec is a public standard, and Bill Masakiâs storage system based on that standard is an open-source project. theyâre only the two largest players because theyâre able to leverage economies of scale. you still get smaller operations like the Laverre City PokĂŠ Ball Factory, with better regional supply chains and local brand recognition, making room for themselves in the market.Â
sm FUCKING h at yâall granola-crunching conspiracy theorists. you probably also believe Super Potions cause autism.
Ok, but it is a shame that artisanal balls are basically off the market now. Like, you have to ride the monorail and hike through a half dozen routes just to find someone willing to sell you a Fast Ball. Believe me, when your boss at the power plant needs five Electrodes by Tuesday you are not going to want to make the trip to Alola; youâre going to head on down to the Mart and get some Ultra Balls, which will do the trick but arenât well tailored to the job.
Iâm with you that modern catching techniques are better, not to mention more humane, but there genuinely is a loss from more niche balls becoming harder to find. Maybe someday the long slowpoketail of consumer demand will be met, but I wouldnât hold my breath for that Shellder.
look yâall are missing the point. mass production of silph balls crowding out traditional apricorn craftsmanship is, if anything, more a side effect of the real problem: that capture artifacts are too easy to get your hands on these days. $2 basic balls are a problem. before modern ball tech you had to go to an artisan, yes, but part of their job was to care about who had the power to recruit pokĂŠmon from the wild, as a backstop against another Knight of Veilstone coming along. there was a time when youâd never lay a hand on a ball yourself until it was clear you respected pokĂŠmon, whether tame or in the wild. but now, a âpokĂŠmon journeyâ is open to practically every teenager, even if theyâve got not interest in treating their team with trust and love.
the worldwide rise in the last century of organized crime and apocalyptic cults who use pokĂŠmon as their muscle is a direct result of capture artifacts becoming a mass produced market commodity rather than a mechanism for preserving the sacred trust between humans and the wilderness. itâs a miracle that the powder keg hasnât already gone off by now.
Oh that is rank historical revisionism - what, do you think artisansâ definitions of ârespectâ were constructed in a vacuum? We already had rhetoric as far back as the warring states period in Ransei about how only the soldierly classes, overwhelmingly descendants of nobility and taught from birth, had the intangible qualities necessary to âbondâ with PokĂŠmon. And when we start seeing apricorn balls develop in Johto, which borders Kanto - Kanto, where we know thereâs been extensive cultural cross-contamination with Auroran and Dragnoran expeditions - surprise, suddenly only a small population has the intangible qualities necessary to use them, too.
That notion was, and remains, a tool to limit general access to PokĂŠmon in the interest of maintaining class disparities. I mean, have we already forgotten the Aether Foundationâs pseudo-conservationist nonsense? Their attempt to manipulate natural resources and establish a power base in Alola, while they were modernizing and taking their place on the world stage, was founded on this exact rhetoric of ârescuingâ PokĂŠmon from local disenfranchised populations, as if taking PokĂŠmon away from places like Po Town would improve things instead of increasing competition between trainers and decreasing safety.
Do you want more disillusioned kids joining gangs? Because thatâs how you get Teams!
Artisanal balls and anyone who supports them are tools of the aristocracy to suppress the common folk. In the days when a ball could only be made by hand by an expert, only the wealthiest could afford pokemon, and as a result anyone not born into the âelitesâ was forced to be subservient to their âbettersâ for protection.
The release of the $2 pokeball meant that the balance of power shifted to the common citizens. If any child can wield the power of a god, the military and the government and the wealthiest businessmen have no power over them.
More than that, instead of power being determined by the wealth to acquire pokemon, power comes exclusively from the dedication, effort, and empathy required to train them to high levels and to maintain their loyalty. If a person simply buys their pokemon, then those pokemon will either stay at low levels forever, or refuse to obey the human because there is no respect between them; the most powerful people in the world are those who caught a critter at level 2-5 and then devoted their life to raising it into a world power.
And as a beautiful side benefit of this, standard of living has increased across the board. Since every household has at least one minor pokemon in the family and there are increasing numbers of professional, working pokemon joining cities and other civilized areas and working to improve them, every aspect of economy and industry has been enhanced by their supernatural capabilities. Electricity is generated cleanly and in abundance for everybody. Pollution is cleaned up almost completely and instantly. The production of farms, mines, and workshops is multiplied, even as safety standards improve. Yes, every few years another potential apocalypse comes about and needs to be prevented by a couple of brave teenagers, but outside of those incidents the world is damn close to utopia.
âŚthat was all fascinating to read and I would like to see more like it, please
for instance; what the hell is in lemonade that makes it a more powerful healing alternative to regular potions
Opium
See, unlike in the real world, the PokĂŠmon world has yet to ban cocaine in drinks.

HEY AUNTY YOU WANNA TELL US SOMETHING
I just wanna remind everyone that there was a time in the Spider Man comics that Aunt May was gonna marry Doc Ock
and throw in that this would be a GREAT continuity to bring that back in.

Here is patron Razaicaâs sketch request! They wanted to see Aziraphale and Crowley from Good Omens reimagined as sirens, with specifically Crowley offering to teach or guide Aziraphale.
sometimes I think about how red is the first color in the visible light spectrum to be absorbed in ocean water
and how many deep-sea creatures evolved to be red as a stealth adaptation, making them near invisible when thereâs little to no light present
and it makes me think. If thereâs never any visible light present in these animalsâ lifetimes, if no ROV shines a little flashlight in depths that would otherwise not have light, would these animals ever get the opportunity to actually be red? that might be a stupid question.
imagine being a little deep sea creature and having no idea youâre red until something comes along and shines a light on you except you still wouldnât be able to tell because youâre probably colorblind. anyway. I donât know where I was going with this post
Is color relative? Or inherent? Or both???
Like is color physiological and determined by the shape of whatever pigment cells that will always absorb certain wavelengths and reflect others?
or is color meaningless if thereâs no light to absorb and reflect?
Is it completely relative because the way we percieve color is subjective, how even within our own species there are so many different kinds of ways people can observe color?
makes you think
Red light doesnât make it to the deep ocean from the sun, but that doesnât mean red light doesnât exist at that depth!
The stomiidae, which include the viperfish, dragonfish, and loosejaws, are one example of a deep sea animal that evolved to perceive and produce red light because it isnât naturally present in their environment and most other organisms never hit on that adaptation. In most of this group, tiny red lights can be switched on and off throughout their skin to communicate with their own kind in secret. More threateningly, some of them have high-powered âfloodlightsâ of pure red just beneath their eyes; almost no other deep sea fish emit actual BEAMS of light to illuminate what theyâre looking at because thatâd make them a shining beacon to every larger predator in the area, but since itâs red, the only risk ends up coming from their fellow red-light hunters and those remain just uncommon enough to be worth the chance. In many members of this group, most of all the loosejaws (hence the name), almost the entire skull can naturally detach from the rest of the body on specialized stalks at lightning speed so that their long, hooked jaws can grab prey in an instant, almost the same exact motion as the arm of a preying mantis:
If you were a little fish in this scenario you would see absolutely nothing but darkness around you and possibly feel pretty safe, because maybe youâve evolved to blend in perfectly with the surrounding void and you canât see any blue or yellow or green lights coming to get you. You have no idea that thereâs been a spotlight right on you all along until its ownerâs face flies off to impale you and shove you whole into its giant throat all in less than half of a second :)

not entirely an intentional set but listen i just have a thing for significant gay hand touch momentsâ˘

âLook wherever you are Iâll come to you, where are you?â\
iâve been thinking about this line for almost TWO YEARS NOW and I finally got around to illustrating it <3
even with those four numbers there are countless possible combinations good luck with figuring out which one is the right one you punk
*straightens calculator*
Itâs pretty likely that itâs a four digit number, and as there are four digits chosen there, that means that there cannot be any repetition. This mean that there are:
n!/(n-4)! possible orders. As ânâ is 4 (number of digits available). 4!/0! which becomes 4x3x2x1/1 which simplifies to 24. That means that there are 24 possible combinations of codes. This would take you about two or three minutes to input all possible codes.
Unless an alarm goes off if you donât get it right in 3 tries
*straightens calculator again*
Kick the fucking door in
well âtechnicallyâ the code is most likley 1970. statistically, a majority of people, when told to choose a 4 digit code will choose their birth year. and this key pad is obviously a few years old to put it nicely, thats most likley it.Â
some sherlock holmes shit just went down over here
No, no, no. Donât base your deductions of psychology. Letâs talk chemistry. When you first press a button, thereâs more of the natural oils on your skin, and therefore it wears down the numbers on the keys faster. Obviously 0 is the first one, then. Try 0791 first.
Sherlock out.
it got better
and this is why the sherlock fandom could either rule the world or end itâŚ.
Close, but not quite, I think. People will almost always choose a number they can remember. Whatâs memorable about 0791? Try 0719 - a birthday, 19th of July. That is more likely.
Those deductions are great and all, but unnecessary.
The light is green.
The door is already open.
And thatâs why we have a John Watson.
This is âtop 10 favorite postsâ level.
Omg, itâs actually on my dash! This post is like a fossil!

hey guys i really appreciate that weâre starting to recognize that neopronouns and nontraditional genders (like stargender and voidgender) are A Thing and Good, but i always see that in the context of âif a fourteen year old wants to use xe/xir pronouns then thatâs not BADâ and. iâm not being nice anymore, fuck you. donât equate our genders with youth and ignorance. the message youâre sending is that we only identify this way because we donât know any better, and the intent doesnât matter when the message received is as horrible as that. get better.
cis and binary people can and should reblog this
Different
âYouâreâŚdifferent. Iâve never met a girl like you.â
She stares at him, hands stilling over her sword. âWhat?â
âAll the girls in my village are so boring,â he says. âSo focused on finding husbands that they donât bother learning about the world.â
âGirls in your village arenât allowed to own property or vote,â she says, somewhat incredulous.
He winces at her tone. Need she be so harsh? âWellâŚitâs not like theyâve ever needed to, weâre a very progressive village and I always vote in favor of their needs. Youâre not like that though, you fight for your rights yourself.â
âThey are fighting for their rights,â she says. She sets down her sharpening stone, a frown stretching across her face. âNo voting, no property, no wages of their own to purchase necessities. Besides finding a kind husband, what else do you think they can do to find a good future?â
âTh-they could leave,â he says. He did not expect the conversation to go this way. He expected her to blush like she had when he complimented her sword skills. He finds himself oddly defensive. âThe men in my village arenât slavers. The girls can leave any time.â
She snorts. âOn foot? Your village is a hard, three day ride from the nearest city and thatâs by horseback. And, even if they made it, what skills do they have? What references? The risk is too high for any woman to leave, thatâs as good as trapping them. The fact that it takes me holding a sword for your opinion of women to change just shows how small-minded you are.â
He bristles, unable to refute her. âLook, I was just trying to pay you a compliment! Thereâs no need to attack me.â
âTrust me,â she says, standing when he moves to loom over her. Theyâre of near equal height and, if he was trying to intimidate her, he fails. âYouâll know it when Iâm attacking you. This isnât it.â
He doesnât seem to hear her, flustered to be seeing her eye-to-eye. âFurthermore, I think Iâd know what sort of girls I grew up with! Theyâre timid and lack a desire to explore the world.â
âThe world you created for them doesnât take long to explore,â she says. Her sword is bare in her hand. âMarry or descend into poverty. Bear an heir or be cast into poverty. Behave or be thrown into poverty. I was there for a week and figured it out. But,â she continues, looking him up and down, âmaybe I shouldnât be so quick to judge. After all, youâve lived there your whole life and you still havenât figured it out.â
He splutters. âThatâs notâthere are other optionsââ
âWhen the revolution is done,â she says, coldly, âand your people are forced to give women rights, see how many stay and how many leave. See how many suddenly discover their wander-lust. See how many end up like me.â
She leaves him there and stalks off to the edge of camp. She leaves him there with his mouth opening and closing, and heart pounding in his chest.
She leaves him there with the unsettling realization that he doesnât want the women in his village to end up being like her, so different and strong. Because, if they did, where would he be? Where would his home be?
Itâs an upsetting realization to have, mid-revolution. No chance to back out now.
Wow, this has such a strong voice to it! And to convey so much background context in so few words!!! :0
I knew from the first sentence that this would be amazing, and it delivered. Itâs a take Iâve always seen hinted, but never fleshed out and I ADORE seeing it fleshed out.
Omfg. One of the most empowering and creative scenes I have read. What the actual hell. đ§đđ whoever wrote this please make a novel so I can re read it over and over again.
