Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as “problematic” in class and our professor was like, “That’s cool, but ‘problematic’ doesn’t really mean anything. It means that the thing you’re describing has a problem, and in and of itself that’s not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else it’s not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like you’re trying to say that this is bad, but you don’t want to say ‘bad.’ Is that right?”
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”
Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I can’t help but think of this professor being like, “Good starting point, now let’s get specific.” I think when we have to commit to saying “that’s ___” it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever we’re claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes it’s art, and it should be full of problems, because that’s what art is.
but i stay silly! *←said in the most world-weary voice you ever did hear*
“but I stay silly!”
Reblog you stay silly
on it boss
"And it seems like it's worth your time, right? And, by the way, there's actually- the superpower inside of feeling alien is admitting that you might be an alien."

Happy Pride 🌈 | The Golden Girls (1985-1992)
Be gay, do crime, and have a Faztastic pride month 🌈
Was it perfect? Nothing ever is and Good Omens 3 is no exception. I could find things to complain about, but that's not what I think is most important right now. Instead, I'm going to just make a quick list of some things I'm grateful for under the cut (spoilers).
1) Aziraphale told Crowley he was the best Angel, that he was more worthy of heaven than any of the other angels- including himself.
2) Crowley got to ask God his question, and I think God gave him one answer when Crowley chose to save humanity over himself and Aziraphale.
3) Muriel figured out it was Michael on their own.
4) Aziraphale said "our Bentley."
5) Crowley forgave him.
6) Jesus was wholesome without being saccharin or corny
7) David and Michael did such a beautiful job. That scene in Eden? Masterfully performed.
8) Crowley's gold suit in heaven and his human alter ego's fit in the bookshop. (Glorious and delicious, respectively.)
9) God is a black woman (like we didn't know)
10) Supernatural vibes with the archangels' silhouettes burning into the walls.
11) Crowley promising his plant he'd be back and then kissing it when he returns.
12) Aziraphale's "kiss" to Crowley's lips and Crowley's response. (People may not like this, but imo they didn't have enough time to earn more than that.)
13) Michael only got rid of Canada bc they knew that was as close as they could get to erasing the US without backlash. As an American I would have fully supported throwing us into the eternal flame.
14) Crowley was basically confirmed as God's favorite.
15) Aziraphale's Legolas hair and that entire opening scene.
16) "better not."
17) I choose to believe some part of the real Crowley and Aziraphale live inside human aziracrow, and that keeps me smiling through these tears.
18) "I only want one thing, and that's not what this is about anymore."
Just finished seeing SIX and it just reminded me why theatre is so important. So many people of all ages came together to see this musical, the little girl/teenager in front of me was so excited the entire time and when the time came for everyone to get up and clap she went "I LOVE YOU"
The arts are so special
So difficult to withhold the eyeroll when people say things like, "My body was designed for this" wrt childbirth or whatever, because even if I accept the premise that our bodies were designed, I have to imagine mine was designed with the most basic function of breathing in mind, and yet I had childhood asthma and would have died without intervention so idk if I'm trusting my "designer" with something as physically traumatic and historically deadly as childbirth
"Your body knows what to do" my body tries to close its own throat and die if I encounter a shrimp or perhaps a crab so idk about that one man

sorry gotta get my ‘friend that’s too woke’ on but I don’t think the solution to misogyny is more misogyny. like by all means rip into republican/right wing women but your critiques should be about how they’re evil soulless people not ‘haha they’re ugly/visibly aged. they don’t know how to put on make up!’ like i don’t fucking know man I don’t think any woman at all should be required to wear makeup or be made fun of for not wearing it ‘properly’ also let’s stop doing the ‘not conventionally attractive = morally bad’ thing. that last part especially be kicking y’all asses.
Woman murders man in broad daylight
beautiful like to reblog ratio on this
That's because people are reblogging it every time they see it. Like I'm doing right now lmao
I'd still trust you with my life doctor tbh
...this is my new favourite chart
I have great news about the hair thing
The findings can help explain the physics behind phenomena like volcanic lightning
