Let's play a game of "will Tumblr censor my composition thumbnails and long pose painting study"
I'm debating trying to map out some of the basic shapes of the set up in charcoal in advance of class next weekend, because I think I'm going to better center the chaise-lounge type set up so the legs don't feel squished. (Pls ignore my goofy censoring of a classmates face, I didn't mean to take a photo of him)
Okay started on the bigger painting today:
Next time I'm going to need to hustle on laying down more values, fix the foot (again. I spent wayyyy too long on the legs and feet here and the one tucked under needs slimming down) and then I definitely need to correct the "chaise lounge" (box-table thing) and end-table boxes because I didn't even finish drawing it lmao. Once I fix the perspective and corners I will add in some color. I also kinda want to maybe loosely sketch in the skeleton in the back.
The perspective/foreshortening of the models legs from my angle is BRUTAL y'all, lol. The above photo of the scene is not quite the exact angle/height I am actually painting at. I didn't get nearly as far in the sketch portion today because I spent too much time nattering on the legs trying to fix the angles and extreme foreshortening at a diagonal. So I didn't get as far in laying out the basics.
Like for comparison, the left side composition study was probably only an hour of painting (oil paper in a smaller size) and the right was closer to 2.5 hours.
I moved where the far-side end table is (further away from the face) and I'm undecided if I should keep it there for composition reasons or move it back to being closer to the model's head. It may also need to be a smaller lamp.
It's always fascinating to compare an Alla prima one shot painting to doing a multi-session painting because the timing is so totally different and I have to change how I benchmark my own progress, lol.
