18th century famous people be like: George was born the oldest of 36 children. His father was a shoe farmer and Grand Piano. At just 2 days old, he began his study of medicine and human biology at Oxford fortunately studying under Shakespeare in Berlin, Austria. Shortly after, he conducted his first successful heart transplant at 1.3 years old. He soon became an ordained priest. By the age of 4, he had married his cousin and had 5 children named Emma, all of whom became minstrels except for one who actually turned out to be Charles Dickens. By the end of his career at 28 years old he had written 11,000 books about Julius Caesar which he made into comedic plays and became a world class harmonica, guitar, and spoon player. He died of tripping on his own foot or lead poisoning at 30

Oh, I know!
Mensah didn't ask SecUnit to save her family because it was the only one who could do that.
She asked it because if Nanna were left to do that by herself, she wouldn't leave any survivors.

Why is it that every time I google something like "Are olives poisonous to cats" the top results are always like "Fun fact: Cats are carnivores! This means that they eat meat. There is no reason to include olives in a cat's diet. You should feed your cat cat food, which is dry or wet food especially designed for cats. You can purchase this at a store." like is there a single person alive on the planet who's googled "Are blueberry muffins safe for cats" because they're planning on switching their cat to a muffin-only diet??? No, I'm asking because the little bastard somehow popped open the packet while I was putting away the groceries and dragged one under the couch before I could react and now I need to know if I should call the after-hours vet. "Cats should not eat spaghetti." NO SHIT, SHERLOCK!!!! "Try to keep human food away from cats." i live in a studio apartment with a completely silent and permanently hungry apex predator who has the intelligence of a toddler and the desperate Machiavellian cunning of a creature who spent his formative months on the streets. He can already open doors and he is this 👌 close to learning how to open the microwave. He is stronger than me and covered in knives. So im gonna do my best but for the moment i just need you to tell me whether this yoghurt is going to kill my son y/n
I've been using the pet poison hotline's poison list cause it has a search function. It also tells you whether something is mildly, moderately, or severely toxic which can be very handy! It doesn't contain like everything but it might be a good place to start, it also includes plants for fellow houseplant lovers <3
Explore Pet Poison Helpline®s vast knowledge on poisons by reviewing our pet poison list. Explore our top 10 poison and holiday poison lists
For plants specifically, there’s also a wildly detailed set of posts and listings about toxicity on the old, wonderful, Plants Are the Strangest People blog
yeah yeah rainbow capitalism is bad and whatever but like. when I was a child, being pro gay was not the popular or lucrative choice. I'm happy that times have changed.
I miss rainbow capitalism. I do. I miss when it felt like public opinion was still pro gay. I understand it was always an empty gesture, but it mattered in a sense of knowing how socially acceptable being queer is. If that makes sense.
I feel called out. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 But I want to try being as accurate as possible.
So I thought y'all would like this too This great white comes to the jersey shore every year and this year they named her and have been tracking her hella so this is Mary Lee and she decided to show herself under this rainbow for pride month A true gay icon
#This is the representation I’ve been looking for

mold pisses me off so much
oh you have to eat your produce the moment it leaves the store or the fuckin Hungering Dust will get it. and. poison your food
I ran into this post years ago and to be honest, it has completely reoriented the way I engage with food.
Like. I’ve always sorta understood that things grow moldy or stale or sour or such if left out, but I never really internalized it in a meaningful way.
But now I’m just like.
Yeah. The hungering dust. There exists omnivorous dust in the air that will eat my food if I don’t.
Those bagels have been sitting there for a week. Are we going to eat them soon or are we leaving them for the hungering dust?
Pizza’s been sitting out on the counter for an hour. Everyone’s enjoying the pizza, but if we don’t want “everyone” to include the hungering dust then we should probably put it away soon.
That’s just. That’s how food works to me now. There exists an invisible predator in the air that hungers for your yummies, and it will not hesitate to eat your food if you don’t make the effort to protect and preserve it. And eat what can’t be preserved before the dust can.
Life-changing.
food doesn’t actually “go bad”, it just gets eaten by something else first

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
Something that I get chills about is the fact that the oldest story told made by the oldest civilization opens with "In those days, in those distant days, in those ancient nights."
This confirms that there is a civilization older than the Sumerians that we have yet to find
Some people get existential dread from this
Me? I think it's fucking awesome it shows just how much of this world we have yet to discover and that is just fascinating
@makaeru peer review cos this made me check when the Sumerians happened and I forget how recent history is for every other continent. 7000 - 8000 years ago just isn't that long when you're in Australia, and the amount of detailed history we have access to here is wonderful and should be recognised more internationally
Source (non Aboriginal)
And a quote I picked out from a longer interview with an Aboriginal local elder about the area where he touched on the history
Source (the rest of the interview is really interesting and all transcribed, have a look if you're curious)
This is part of my Ancient Civilizations class that I teach, which does a whole week about Australia and the Torres Strait Islands because I was sick of never seeing them represented in USAmerican history contexts. With the help of @micewithknives and @acearchaeologist I've learned so many incredible things about Australia's past and it's been incredibly rewarding to share them with students.
My favorite fact about Aboriginal oral history is the fact that we pretty recently discovered that the Aboriginal myth of the 7 Sisters, an origin story for the Pleiades star cluster, accurately reflects a point TEN THOUSAND YEARS AGO when two stars in the constellation got close enough together to no longer be distinguishable by the naked eye.
The story? 6 sisters running from something that took their 7th sister.
as a gilgar gunditj woman, i was not expecting to see my culture on my dash.
thank you for spreading our words and treating our culture with respect.
big ass military-grade CombatUnits as soon as they find out the widdle rogue SecurityUnit is calling itself "murderbot":
the (surviving) big ass CombatUnits once SecUnit has successfully extracted its clients and blown up the facility and run off with stolen proprietary data or whatever it came here to do:
one of the surviving CombatUnits while they're busy helping each other strap gagged and unconscious supervisors to their backs so as to get around the governor module: ...if we moved to Preservation, do you think we could get a book deal?
they probably don't let their MIs determine their own functions as they develop. but i'm imagining PSUMNT's machine intelligence program going through enough mishaps one year that it accidentally produces a bot that yearns to be a casino
it shows remarkable promise in nearly every other aspect, especially when it comes to the care and psychology of humans.
the board assumes this is merely a phase it will grow out of as it matures past adolescence.
for most of the year, the Meridian is installed on an average university vessel that hosts classes and occasional planetary missions. when it's not doing that, it supposedly goes on cargo runs.
for a few months of the year, the Crescendo, a completely unrelated ship with no university affiliations, is a notoriously seasonal casino ship that frequents the CR. it is highly rated for comfort and security.
the Crescendo was still in its infancy the year researchers convinced Perihelion's SecUnit to visit the crèche, during which said visitor was (allegedy) (you can't prove shit) (youll be hearing from my solicitor) also watching media about high stakes gambling. but who can say
man y’all remember when the avengers movie came out and everyone headcanoned that all the avengers would live together in the tower and had all these cute posts about various fun ways they could interact and then the movies literally never had any of them even be friends
I want to state, for the record, that “all the avengers would live together in the tower” wasn’t collective headcanon, it was canon. The very last scene of Avengers (2012), the one they left us on, is Tony redesigning the tower, designing a living area for each Avenger. That was, canonically, what was supposed to happen, in canon, and they just changed their minds and decided to… not. For whatever goldarn reason.
GHHFDGJHFDS THATS EVEN FUNNIER WHY IS MARVEL LIKE THIS

Sometimes I think that I’m moderately intelligent and then I realize how frequently I’m deceived by things meant to fool wild animals
why leave half of the post in the tags this is amazing
being mildly nearsighted keeps me humble

@sherbertilluminated there's a line somewhere in Ursula Vernon's Digger that goes something like "it is difficult to be metaphysical around the truly geologically minded"
