During yesterday’s game I made an off the cuff remark that Infernal music uses a system of nine modes named after the layers of Hell as opposed to the traditional seven in Western classical music so of course I’ve been coming up with a system of nine tones per octave for no gain whatsoever, I don’t think I’ve ever spent so much time on something with absolutely zero game effect

I haven’t had the time to play around with it so it probably sounds horrible, but okay it’s a system of alternating half-steps and full steps but with two sequential half-steps. The basic Avernal mode in C would be C, Db, Eb, E, F, Gb, Ab, A, and B (and with a final half-step to bring it back to C).

I mean it wouldn’t be hard for me to write a piece like that. It won’t sound “correct” to western ears because the root note, C, in that scale will sound like it wants to resolve up to the Db, but if your goal is for music to sound like it’s from Hell, then it’s doable.

It's fun when the robot character in the sci-fi show gets cut in half because nobody working on this type of media knows anything about robotics and you never know what you're going to find inside. Green printed circuit boards? Meat and viscera, but like in a weird colour? Just a shitload of goo?

I especially like it when the robot appears to have realistic musculature which operates via contraction, suggesting some sort of fluid-driven or shape-memory-based actuation, and then it gets dismembered and a bunch of random gears and sprockets go flying everywhere.

Saying this as an earth sciences major and geography and geology nerd: the Sallowlands have major saline Great Salt Lake and Aral Sea vibes. Large inland bodies of water/seas that have gradually been depleted (in this case by drought and/or inlet and river diversion and overuse of water from those sources.)

There ARE old islands that can no longer be considered as such - in the case of Antelope Island and Stansbury Island:

Also, the scale and immensity of these inland bodies of water should also not go unrecognized - they were HUGE.

That being said, there are also other, somewhat smaller, at-risk saline lakes, particularly throughout Califonia and Nevada. The Salton Sea, Pyramid Lake, Mono Lake, etc.

I've done a lot of field research on the marshes and specific river tributaries and water usage + water quality of some of these places!

Had to add: There are no outlets - only inlets - meaning that no water leaves beyond evaporation - which (basically) leads to the build up of salinity and other mineral deposits. (These are called endorheic lakes!)

All this to say, I'm very convinced these were sources of inspiration for the Sallowlands, lol. (Also, the bugs and the smell, marshes, and the distant lights, all very very reminiscent of those places.)

I'm so annoyed, I could have left at like noon but I had to linger at work in case the department needed to make last minute Q2 adjustments so for five hours I was just sitting and waiting to see if FP&A needed rapid reclasses. Dumb!! Colossal waste of time!! I sent my team home bc I'm not a demon from hell but the entire day I was like. What if I, too, went home. If they don't need me to make any adjustment entries I'm gonna be so mad (they didn't!! I'm so mad!!)

One of my coworkers ran up to me as I was heading to the subway and we shot the shit a bit and when I was like 15 steps from the stairs he dropped that one of our coworkers in a different department is getting sued for some looney tunes bullshit (basically getting free x-rays and shit on the company dime just by walking in and confidently handing over his business card and telling them to bill the company instead of going through health insurance) and he was like "Haha isn't that crazyyyy anyway have a good weekendddd" and I was like

Not just characters who are dog-coded, but characters who are a specific type of dog-coded. Join me for a moment:

Working Dog-Coded: Give me a job and a purpose, then reward me with affection and I will follow you to the end of time, space and beyond.
