there are definitely other people who can provide a much more in depth explanation with actual receipts but the summary is that shane was projected 1oa in his entry draft, which was going to be montreal's pick. like, to the point where there were wright habs jerseys being sold at the entry draft. they end up drafting slaf 1oa instead, and shane goes 4oa to seattle.

since 2022 habs fans have maintained that shane looked disappointed when his pick was announced, and interpreted it as him being disrespectful towards the habs for not being picked first. they then proceeded to launch an online harassment campaign so virulent it basically drove him off of social media. you can STILL find comments on recent posts of his from bitter habs fans.

this is the first time we've ever heard actual sustained booing from them towards him, despite playing in the nhl for a full season and having show stints prior to making the full time roster last year. so i have no idea why TONIGHT was the night they decided to be terrible.
