rookie sid / vet Geno :)
LOVE character regression. love when characters get hurt and revert to their old ways as a way to deflect, cope, and recuperate. love when they get scared to make a difficult decision. love when it takes time and effort. it's going to be worth so much more when they get better.

this fic is so good i hope i write it
the worst writing crime you can ever commit in my opinion is watering down the dirty talk because you’re self-conscious that it sounds like it’s from a bad porno…..i cannot stress this enough……leave it alone. the moment you tell yourself he would not fucking say that you’re doomed. people will say almost anything if their dick is hard enough

“In working with writers, I’ve learned it’s not talent that gets books written, it’s hard, slow, steady work. But it’s not only hard work—almost every student I’ve taught works hard. It’s learning to understand that the process of writing isn’t linear but filled with peaks and valleys; that sometimes we don’t know what we’re doing but we need to work anyway; that we must stay with the process through uncertainty, indecision, anxiety and feeling our work is failing; that we must have tenacity when we feel like walking away from a project. My most important job is helping writers endure the tough stages of the process. And I’ve learned that often the toughest stage comes just before the biggest breakthroughs. But that’s when many writers decide their work is a failure and put it down. Sometimes they think because the work is a failure, they’re failures and not meant to be writers.
The short story writer and memoirist Tobias Wolff describes how, when writing a long work, ‘a kind of anxious wonder sets in as to whether or not you’ll really finish it, whether it will be any good, whether all this time will have been wasted—and we all hate to waste our time.’ Wolff feels this way every time; completing one successful work doesn’t mean he has more courage or conviction when he writes the next. ‘Everything I’ve written... has seemed to me, at one point or another, something I probably ought to abandon. Even the best things I’ve written have seemed to me at some point very unlikely to be worth the effort I had already put into them. But I know I have to push through.’ Wolff completes every work he begins: ‘For me, it’s more important to keep the discipline of finishing things than to be assured at every moment that it’s worth doing.’”

Geno’s necklaces: a PSA
So I have spent an inordinate amount of time investigating Geno’s necklaces for the good of the fandom, and today I come to you with information. My guesswork is based primarily on this image (as well as some others I’ve seen), which I captured from a gif created by @maljic:
From what I can tell, Geno wears two necklaces–a gold chain and a black leather or possibly cotton cord–with a total of four charms. Three of the four charms are on the gold chain, and the fourth is on the black cord. Here’s the breakdown:
Cross 1: on the gold chain; definitely Orthodox-style cross, with rounded edges; possibly a cross of St. Vladimir; could also be a cross of St. Olga
Cross 2: on the gold chain; square shape (all arms are equal length), looks similar to a Maltese cross (popular with crusaders); possibly a Nicene cross
Medallion 1: on the gold chain; probably a Mother of God medallion
Medallion 2: on the black cord; possibly a St. Nicholas medallion (though of a slightly different style than linked here) ETA: this might actually be a St. Basil medallion
This is admittedly quite a bit of guesswork, mostly because my google-fu skills were coming up empty when I was looking for “popular Russian saints.” Still, I thought it might be good to have this as a resource/possible jumping-off point for people more familiar with Russian Orthodox jewelry conventions. If you have more information or clearer images that might be useful, please share them with me!
Ho-hum. Do these pictures help?
Got nothing else, sorry.
Edit: Thought I’d give a heads-up, the Byzantium website sells off pieces one-by-one (and some of them are limited/unique/vintage), so when they’re sold the product is removed and you can’t see the pictures anymore.
It's ok if you don't like rpf. You can get better. I can help you. Come here

Hockey star Evgeny Malkin says the agent of his Pittsburgh Penguins partner, Sidney Crosby, has already contacted the Metallurg Magnitogorsk’s administration about him joining the KHL side.
“Everybody’s waiting for him here,” Malkin told Sportbox.ru. “I know that his agent called [Metallurg’s general manager, Gennady] Velichkin. But no decision has been made yet. Crosby has pretty big insurance. I don’t know how they’ll resolve this issue.”

A Few of My Favorite Russian Proverbs (with their literal translations)
Big secret—the whole world knows.
A beard doesn’t make a philosopher.
All cats are gray in the dark.
No one brings a samovar to Tula. (Tula is famous as the city where samovars were manufactured. This is the equivalent of “Don’t bring coal to Newcastle.”)
If you’re afraid of wolves, don’t go to the woods.
Tell the truth—lose friends.
Trust, but verify.
Debt is beautiful once it’s repaid.
The informer is whipped first.
You get to know your friend in trouble. (A friend in need is a friend indeed.)
Friendship is friendship, but count money.
To know everything is to know nothing.
And even walls have ears.
When money talks, truth shuts up.
One can’t build happiness upon another’s grief.
If you called yourself a mushroom—get in the basket. (Sort of like, “don’t just talk the talk—walk the walk.”)
He that does nothing makes no mistakes.
