There is no food in the Infinite Realms, there are dead animals and plants yes, but they are made of ectoplasm. There is no food in the Infinite Realms.

It is this very reason cultures all over the world place offerings of food for the deceased, to give them the one thing the afterlife cannot gift them. For all ectoplasm is infinite in it's forms, it is still ectoplasm.

Danny learned this the hard way when he took the throne.

The meals he requests within his keeps are always pale imitations to true food, the texture is wrong, the taste is always too bland with that undercurrent of ectoplasm. He can subsist on ectoplasm alone, but as time passes he comes to miss food desperately.

He is beginning to understand why Lunch Lady reacted so drastically whenever anyone outside the realms threw away food or skipped meals.

It gets to the point that when he smells the aroma of a still warm bowl of soup he perks up like a hound locking onto a rabbit, he scours the keep until he narrows down the source to a room he's never entered. Within he finds the soup, in translucent form as if intangible, it sits innocently within a glowing circle on the floor.

He approaches entranced by what has to be the first meal in over a century, the bowl getting more and more solid the closer he gets, before the room around him shifts.

I realized that many artists were complaining about this person because he was refunding their commission. At first you are hesitant to work together; after all, she did this with a crummy spell glitch to begin with. But… everyone knows the one best able to undo a curse is the one who cast it.

So you move in, threshing the wheat, helping with planting and tending and harvesting.

With her hands free Scillia could focus on fixing the spell. She sometimes would get too preoccupied and forget to eat, so you would fix a meal. It was country fare that would never pass for high cuisine, but the food you could make was always delicious; you had learned at the elder’s knees because you knew that when you began life as an adventurer you wouldn’t always have an inn or tavern handy.

The first time she thanked you, you blushed beet red from the fact she noticed the effort you put in. “Lies…” you whispered softly before turning to see about your own bowl of stew.

As time passed, she noticed your hair grew quickly and kept getting it out of the way. She carefully braided each side, using a little boar lard to condition it, and wrapped it in thongs made of pretty colored fabric. Soon, this was a regular tradition, with you washing out the hair on occasion before she carefully wrapped it once more. “Lies,” you thanked her with a nod, and she chuckled. “Glad to help!”

Late one night after another busy but peaceful day, you were cuddled together face-to-face, making faces and being silly to bring that delighted shine to her eyes.

Then, you knew you had to find a way to tell her how you felt about her. You raised one rough hand, calloused and scarred from combat, and traced her face gently, as if memorizing the moment. Then you leaned in gently, your lips a breath away, giving her the final vote on if you kissed.

Whole new galaxies formed behind your lids as the kiss continued, and both of you looked disappointed in your restraint, but you had to find a way to tell her. With a voice heart achingly gentle, you looked her in the eyes.

“Lies,” you murmured for her ears only, and she nodded, a reciprocating look in her eyes.
