Sophie is on the show this week! They are a Public History Master's student at York, as well as the Fundraising and Policy Director at Disabled Students UK. In this episode, Sophie talks about her experience as a neurodivergent, energy-limited wheelchair user at York. This included during her graduation, when she was not able to participate in the same way as her peers. Her role as the Policy and Fundraising Director for Disabled Students UK is also discussed! We also touch on self-advocacy, how we can improve student experience, and finding adaptive sports while at university. There really is something for everyone in this episode. Last week, Toby was on the show. He is an iGGi PhD researcher specialising in developing Game Master AI for tabletop roleplaying games (TTRPGs). In his episode, Toby walked me through how an upper-limb difference shaped his educational career through reasonable adjustments, the power of his support network, and how gaming can be made more accessible for those in the disabled community and beyond.

This weekend, my good friend Fay is coming on the show! She has recently completed her MPhil in Linguistics from the University of Oxford. We will be having an in-depth discussion about how she adjusted her time at university while recovering from an eating disorder and managing borderline personality and depersonalization disorders. She also completed her degree while struggling to type due to an injury that reduced mobility in both of her hands. CW: Please note that this episode will contain mentions of Anorexia. Toby is on HEnabled this week! He is an IGGI PhD specialising in developing Game Master AI for tabletop roleplaying games (TTRPGs). While not mentioned directly in the episode, Toby also wants to make listeners aware of the Reach charity. Reach did a lot for him before his time at university. They do some really valuable work for children and young people with upper limb differences, so definitely check them out if you can. We had a wonderful time recording and I hope that you can give it a listen!

Episode info: Murrin is an EDI practictioner who specialises in sharing her lived experience as a person at the intersections of diability, race, gender, and sexuality. Her story is one that is less spoken about; Murrin left school at 16 and entered university via a Higher National Certificate (HNC) as a mature student, all while also managing multiple physical disabilities and undiagnosed neurodivergence. We also had a great time talking about accessibility for internships, eco-ableism, and Murrin's work as the former EDI officer at the Queen Margaret University Student Union. It's a great listen and I really reccommend checking it out wherever you get your podcasts :)

They are an ADHDer who is commencing a PhD in the speech perception of ADHD people later this month. We had a really engaging chat and discussed everything from pursuing your passions to the idea of 'having it together'. My most recent episode had Ari on the show! We spent time discussing the impact that his autism and mental health had on his university experience, and how sport, community, and laughter helped him complete his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in British higher education. This Sunday's episode will have the wonderful Emily on! We'll be having a chat about what it's like getting an ADHD diagnosis during an undergraduate degree, and how Emily chose to embrace their hyperfocus in linguistics as her PhD starts this month.
