(Blame the Normans. Also the Danes. Hell, blame the Anglo-Saxons while you’re at it since it was them showing up and forcing the Britons to switch to Anglo-Saxon that started the whole thing. Look English has a fucking weird history that involves constantly being conquered and forced to speak a new language or mish-mash until they got so tired of this that they decided to turn around, build an amazing navy and do it to everyone else instead, leading to global violence and conquest and just about everything we’re struggling with today.)
