one day i'll be out at a club and some stunningly beautiful they/them will say "i really need an input voltage to 5 volts to power my electronic circuit but all i have is a power source providing 7-20 volts and no voltage regulator!! whatever am I to do?!" and i'll be eavesdropping and make my way over to them and say "i have exactly what you need, handsome" and chivalrously take off my earring for them and then everyone would clap. and the best part is that this could happen twice in one night and i'd still be prepared

It's almost like school is the ONLY place most people will ever encounter an analog clock in this day and age. They don't get any practice in outside of school and for good reason. Analog clocks are so last century. They are pretty, but they are going the way of the sundial. I reckon most kids these days also can't use a fountain pen or a slide rule. They don't even make kids wash their slates or clap out their chalk dust from the chalkboard erasers.

I think for a lot of people “I am completely helpless and powerless” and “I am completely powerful and in control” are both basically comforting fantasies because most of us live our lives in an in between place where we have enough agency to be responsible for our actions but not enough agency to have true control over our lives and the tension between power and powerlessness in the day to day is psychologically wearing and exhausting
