I think a big part of what made the first two seasons of iwtv so special to me especially season 2 was how central cognitive dissonance was to the whole structure of the story. Like it felt like The Entire Point that louis is struggling to reconcile seemingly irreconcilable truths about his life. lestat abused him and also they really loved each other. Claudia resented him and he hurt her and also they really loved each other. And that central idea is so dramatically substantive and interesting that it made things work for me that otherwise would not have. like I completely get why Louis thanking and forgiving Lestat at the end of season 2 gave people the ick but I was okay with it because I saw it as Louis giving himself permission to accept the whole spectrum of his own feelings about that relationship. Like to say yes there are good things that came out of this experience even though it was also harmful and traumatic and I’m at a point where I can acknowledge both those things without feeling like I’m lying about either of them.

I think people hold amc iwtv to a really high standard not because it’s a gay show but because the first two seasons were really good
