i do think that it adds to the character if sanshu is puppy-coded cute (like, wlg and wx both has it, it runs in the family). it's fun! it's crazier! this horrible young man is cute and charming and Bubbly!
why would you ever outsource fun to chatgpt? are you stupid? you can make mediocre shit by yourself too.
you're missing out on all the crazy euphoric moments where you execute an idea flawlessly, sending it to your friends and feeling the genuine happiness at their reactions to something you made authentically. you're robbing yourself of something beautiful.
and I get it, writers block, artists block, depression can really be terrible, but once you break out of it (and you will) it will feel like climbing Mount Everest.
peace and love on planet earth! you are saving the environment AND youâre cool!

I love visiting people who have some kind of pet reptile because they're always like "would you like to hold the reptile" and I'm like "of course I would" and then the rest of the conversation happens with me just holding a random reptile and the reptile Has No Feelings about the situation. They always just sit there, probably vaguely wishing to return to their heat lamp but clearly exuding an energy of This Might As Well Happen. and then I put it back in its enclosure and go home and the reptile very clearly has no strong feelings about the situation.
#my environmental science teacher in sophomore year had a classroom snake. and it was exactly like this#just a bunch of teenagers gently passing a snake to each other and doing lab work#and the snake would be like. yup. im just here.

I think it would be fun to go full out with â1001 Arabian Nightsâ orientalized fictional New York setting. Itâs somehow always the 20s, and 80s and also contemporary. Thereâs depression era gangsters and Wall Street finance bros. Spider-man or the Teen Aged Mutant Ninja Turtles might show up. The Mayor is never named but is a constantly felt presence. Sometimes the World Trade Centres are there, sometimes theyâre not.

I think we need to have the conversation about how deforestation is affecting the slenderman population.

Geological horror. You find a geode and crack it open and the crystal lining its walls is human blood that can't be genetically matched to anyone. You find a human skeleton but every one of the bones is made from rock, a rock that you know can't be whittled into those shapes. You find layers of clay and loam that sport ancient fossils at the top and the still-rotting corpses of modern animals at the bottom.
This reminds me of the blood river in Antarctica. For like a century scientists had no clue why this river looked like, acted like, and felt exactly like blood. Turns out itâs just really high in iron.
"Blood River in Antartica" yeah right there's no way a river looks like bl-
...nevermind
Blood Falls isn't just high in iron, it's the byproducts of extremophile bacteria that have been isolated under a glacier in a iron- and sulfur-rich anoxic brine for the past 5 million years.

There's this category of TTRPG where the seemingly only selling point besides maybe artwork is giving players permission to jerk off to their own moral purity as manifest from buying the TTRPG.
please. i need to see a nine on the jerk-off scale. rebel scum? old forge games? hyper pretentious osr? i need to see the horrors
Eat the Reich was actually what inspired this post, but Candela Obscura also comes to mind
@batmanisagatewaydrug @utracjuszka
Candela Obscura is the strawman put forward in this post, but itâs a game that actually exists:
I have encountered this firsthand. I'm a massive history nerd, especially about pirates (among other things, but pirates are relevant to the story). I was hanging out in a system agnostic TTRPG server and Pirate Borg was mentioned so I talked about my idea for a historical fantasy campaign set around historical pirates and the Nassau Pirate's Republic. Started explaining some basic ideas, how it's basically about trying to keep this rogue nation together amid external hostility from England, France, and Spain and internal strife caused by a lack of trust and Edward Teach's descent into madness. Naturally this brings up Blackbeard and his crew, which contained several escaped slaves, and that the Queen Anne's revenge was a former slave ship. I immediately get the *several people are typing...* and am welcomed with several messages that Pirate Borg takes place in an alternate history where slavery never happened. I end up trying to have to defend myself, explaining the *true facts* that most pirates were escaped slaves, both native and black, and that a lot of pirate ships were captured slave ships because they had thicker hulls and could take more punishment in a fight. They were like "But you can have diverse crews and sturdy ships without bringing slavery into it." My response was "you *could*, but then you lose valuable historical context and systemic evils to fight against, I like running stories about making the world a better place." Some people understood that, but many of them *literally* shot back "But thinking about slavery makes me uncomfortable, so maybe just write it out of the setting?" That's when I shut up but I was just screaming in my head "YES, THE POINT IS IT SHOULD MAKE YOU FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE AND WANT TO CORRECT IT"
this sure does seem relevant to my blog.
When it comes to worldbuilding advice, I do try to steer people away from the old flat tropes of making any singular people group "good", "bad", "more civil", or "primitive", or whatever. It's important that you, the writer of a fictional world, don't just rehash the same problems that have been present in the genre for decades and which are heavily tied to racism and other forms of bigotry. And no, just flipping the script on which group gets to be "good" and which group is now "evil" is not subversive and it does not solve the problem.
but also!!! attempting to write a shiny utopia of a world where all the inequality is just magically non-existent and everyone gets along without any issues will often get you the problems illustrated in this post. you still have to actually understand why the world is the way it is, and what it really takes to create peace and equality. People are people. there will always be some trouble between them. You can tackle that trouble in unique and interesting ways in your own fiction!
I've found in my own worldbuilding, that trying to just make things Fine And Good actually makes it a lot harder to build a coherent world with stories that feel alive and have believable conflicts. For example, the ttrpg setting described above here, where there is somehow a whole world of people who have fled to this perfect little utopia country where everyone is free of all bigotry ever... but also somehow there are still other people in the world beyond that are super mean and want to conquer the good country (for their resources. which... previously they seemed to be sharing just fine as a population built primarily of global refugees. why is it suddenly a problem that other people want their resources. is this the only place with bountiful resources? why? how? I don't want to make this post too much longer but man are my analytical gears spinning.)
tldr: turns out systemic problems are actually kind of better for worldbuilding than trying to just avoid being Problematic. If you do your research and actually understand why the real world is the way it is, you'll have an easier time building a fictional world that makes sense, with conflicts that are actually organic.
