Invasions are a balancing mechanic to offset the fact that having a co-op summon breaks the AI for basically every boss in the game and can trivialize non-boss areas, especially when the game also allows you to summon a level 700 phantom at any level
It's a unique and fun concept to take your action RPG doll into someone else's game and then you can hit your dolls together, and no other game worth playing lets you do this
The idea that invaders are "bullies" is also really funny with the context that Elden Ring famously has a problem with *hosts* being bullies, dedicating their time to AFK farming invaders (sitting in an inaccessible-on-foot area with the Taunter's Tongue on) or luring them into dead levels with a pair of overleveled phantoms for the express purpose of ganking the fuck out of them and polluting the pool of invadable players, making it much harder to actually enjoy the mechanic as intended. All because they're afraid of dying to another player in the game series about dying a lot. In short: piss yourself
