I try really hard to like let people like what they like. And we all vibe with different characters. I get that. So leaving aside how theyāre okay with Booker...
Letās just get into how NOT okay we are, alright? Because I for one can literally bring myself to tears if I sit there and try to make sense of it. If I try to consider how much pain heās actually caused Joe and Nicky and Andy too.
Because thereās just... thereās no fucking way he thought Joe and Nicky were ready to or wanted to die. They still love this world and want to help it! Theyāre still so very in love with each other! 900 years is not enough time for them to love each other. They do not want to die.
Tbh, Andy doesnāt read suicidal either. Fed up with the world and done trying to help it? Sure. But you think she still doesnāt see the beauty in a fucking sunrise or the joy in delicious baklava? Or the happiness of being with her family?????
And I cannot for the life of me wrap my head around that part of it. That he actually... actually sold out all of them. That they could have been subjected to endless years of suffering and torture and pain. That he was okay with doing that? To the people we know love him? And that we know he, supposedly, loves? Because his kids died hating him???? I just canāt! I canāt. And people can argue it wasnāt about him being bitter over Joe and Nicky but like?? He said it, man! Outta his own mouth!
Every time I try to find a way to understand or empathize I remember the way Andy screamed when he shot her and bound her. The absolute betrayal. And I think about Nicky waiting for Joe to come back to life on that table and how sad they both looked when they talked about going back to Malta. And Joe crawling to Nicky after heās shot in the head.
And I just cannot. I lose any and all sympathy or empathy. And I legit just hate him????
