Owner: my dog has a lump behind her ear
Us: oh, it's a tick!
Owner: weird. She never gets those
Us: well, is she on any flea and tick preventative? If not, would you like some?
Owner: Oh, no. And i don't want any because she never gets ticks.
Sundew may have a foreign body. Waiting on doc to get out of her mass removal surgery so she can come look at his rads. I do not like how his rads look.
He's got some odd gas patterns, but they're in his colon where you would not normally be concerned about a blockage. Bloodwork was normal. She didn't see anything on ultrasound.
We're going to do a barium series on him just to be sure.
He started with diarrhea two days ago, then yesterday was painfully when I touched his belly, didn't want to eat his food, and he didn't sleep with me overnight. No vomiting.
He gets to come back to work tomorrow for a final rad to be sure all the barium has moved into his colon and is on its way out. Otherwise we might be doing an exploratory surgery.
Yay
I am cautiously hopeful that Sundew was suffering from a "Barium Deficiency" as he ate dinner and really would like more and he's currently attached to the top of my head, purring.
These rads are 4 hours apart. Something in his distal colon is blocking it.
*Normally* if something reaches the colon you no longer worry about an obstruction... but Sundew didn't read that part i guess.
We're going to try an enema.
One very expensive, naughty boy
Been keeping the husbeast up to date on my fluffy idiot son:
*wheezing*
I am going to be sad if I have to defluff my boy but I can't be regularly spending $1200 for a hairball up the ass.
Well, it wasn't hair. Don't know why he was backed up but the colon is empty now.
He needs a dental once my bank account recovers.

Ruckus has a new favorite game and I've learned he much prefers this over the ball being thrown or bounced

Ruckus has a new favorite game and I've learned he much prefers this over the ball being thrown or bounced
Alright, fine, while I can't keep him if I was going to keep one it would have to be Ruckus. He's the mellowest and quietest of the pups, and aside from his sister the one who is most desperate to interact with me.
Plus he really is just so fucking cute.
Just a throwback to when I was in utter denial...
hello i have a question relating to cats. my mom recently took in a pregnant stray cat who gave birth last night and she still feels some sort of lump on her stomach even though the kittens have already been born, is it possible for a cat to have multiple liters of kittens born immeditly after the other or for kittens from the same liter to be born at much different times?
the cats the mother auggie and from top to bottom domino, fog, and squidward
There's many things that can feel like a lump in a cat abdomen. The kidneys. The bladder. A kitten she didn't birth which means she's in dystocia and needs to see a vet. A tumor. A bladder stone.
Take mom and kittens to the vet so mom can get an exam and an xray to make sure she's birthed all her kittens.
I've had a lot of clients over the years ask why we bother doing dental rads, and insinuating or outright declaring that is just a way to make more money
We were expecting this to be a prophylactic dental cleaning. No extractions anticipated. Teeth had minimal tartar and cleaned up gorgeous.
Then I took my rads
Thaaaaaat is a giant ol' patch of periodontal bone loss all the way around the entire caudal root. That is a tooth that is in the process of dying. So out it needed to go
This is already why dental estimates are *estimates*. We never know what we're going to find until we are in there.
This is ALSO why those "anesthesia-free" cosmetic dentals are a scam. They can't find abscesses in the bone around a root like this.

What a privilege it is, to have both labs curl with their backs against my spine and legs
To know that for soft creatures, I am sweet safety
Even though
I am
So very warm
and need to stretch mine leg
Update:
What a privilege it is to have your arm be the resting place of one small furry face
As your leg dangles off the bed
Lifting accusatorily
As you turn like a rotisserie chicken
Only to dissolve in tender kisses
That you would prefer were not. On. Or in. The mouth.
Sticky Jack and Sticky Bob are coming home tomorrow to finish getting over the URIs, make sure they aren't going to break with ringworm, and then get neutered. Which means that ideally in 4 weeks or so they will be ready to go to their new homes. If anyone would like a pair of indoor-only kitties where you would get one incredibly clingy social kitten who is the emotional support kitten for his brother who thinks domestication is maybe okay and that petting is maybe alright but goddamn is good on offer amazing and worthwhile....
Also available are the No-Longer-Spicy Void babies (Pepper, Chili, Spice, and Salsa) that my sister in law is fostering. I'll post them, too, when I get new photos. She's hoping to get the boys neutered in a couple weeks as well.
So, if you are in California and are in need of indoor-only kittens, have permission to have kittens from roommates/landlords, and can get yourself established with a veterinarian..... >_>
