it's completely free and works online like google docs does. in terms of functionality, it has all the things you need in a word processor. all the normal font style, paragraph style, bold italics, etc, etc. it has spell check (which you can toggle on and off, which i do leave it off when i'm writing so i don't get distracted by the red squigglies and that's nice). they have settings where you can view your document with or without pages; you can have headings and an outline (and they just made it so the headings can be collapsible to keep things more organized if you're into that!); you can have multiple drafts of a document; they have templates you can use; there's a focus mode. And you can import existing documents into ellipsus, and export directly to ao3!

i think it has a really clean interface, and it's really easy to use and navigate. and then one of the things i like best are the themes!

(they did also just introduce a pro plan, which has a few more features, including a custom theme maker. and the pro plan is set up with a couple different payment options, but no matter which payment option you go with, you will eventually own it. so there's no eternal subscription model. but there are so many features on the free version so you definitely don't need the pro version, and they don't pressure you about it)
