Growing up, like most kids, each year brought on a new career aspiration from wanting to become a doctor (both my parents are), to biochemist, to even an F1 driver! A couple of decades and a couple of jobs later, I found my true calling in cooking. It was this calling that inspired me to get some formal education in Culinary Arts and hence I enrolled and graduated with a diploma from the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE), in New York City. During my time at ICE, I had the good fortune to learn and train from the best including acclaimed chefs Alexander Guarnaschelli and Peter Reinhart. In addition, I interned at Jojo’s, a Jean George’s restaurant where I got exposed to some of the nuances of contemporary French cuisine. Fast forward five years…. I moved to India for a year, came back to NYC to get a Master’s from NYU, got married and relocated to Chicago. During my time in India, I consulted and helped start a fast casual cafe from scratch which included menu design, training their chefs, inventory management and restaurant management. All these years, I regularly hosted dinner parties and informally shared recipes with friends and family, who urged me to share my passion and creativity with a wider audience…and this led to Devanjali’s Blog!
