does anyone have that one painting with the ghosts standing in the water?
like theyre in the water and they're staring off to the side and there's something so very wrong about it and they're bending over and trailing along like deer in the headlights but you can't see what they're staring at which might make it even scarier
like this
I FUCKING FOUND IT.
beach day beach day
by the way, the artist is olivia steen (website linked above) and apparently, her other works are just as breathtakingly eerie

DO NOT SUPPORT SALVATION ARMY
I can back this up. It isn’t only their shelters.
I have a family friend who worked at our local Salvation Army headquarters as a a secretary. This particular office took all the Christmas donations for children in need, put them in a warehouse, and on a designated day the staff and their friends picked through them all, taking whatever they wanted. She saw people hauling away bikes donated for specific families. Some local children had hundreds of dollars of gifts donated in their name, and on Christmas they received three cheap things, items likely not even from the person who sponsored them.
My friend quit, and I’ve not given them a dime of my money since then.
Do not give to the Salvation Army.
Do Not. Give. To. Salvation. Army
My turn.
I’m a wildfire and disaster logistics specialist.
I deal with a lot of agencies who provide disaster relief.
I used to say the Salvation Army’s disaster services were the one (literally the ONE) good thing they did.
They would come in, set up a canteen trailer, make and pass out hot coffee and donated food in a disaster, usually being one of the first agencies to get there and the last to leave.
Then I found out.
Every time they did this, regardless of if they were actually invited or deployed by the agency in charge (usually FEMA, sometimes others) they would SELF-DEPLOY. Meanjng they would just show up. Ok. That’s not TOO bad, sometimes agencies have to take initiative and get there before the red tape is sorted out. BUT. They, after they left at the end of the incident, they would send FEMA or the host agency a BILL. They used one or two paid employees (usually the driver of the truck and a supervisor); and many VOLUNTEERS, but they would bill for EVERYONE’s Labor at standard federal rates. They would bill for the food they distributed even though it was all donated by another agency or private parties. They would bill for the coffee they made and the supplies. Except they would use electricity from the shelter location, water from donations or from the shelter, and in many cases, they would get the coffee and industrial filters DONATED, but bill for them at retail prices.
Don’t FUCKING give to the Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army is also ass to the workers. A good number of people join it, naively thinking that it’s doing good, and end up leaving cynical and beaten down. The management is hostile, if not outright abusive, and demand some ridiculous hours of it lower to mid-level staff. Don’t support these people.
Unsettling update
Find better local charities and shelters and give to them instead!

Here's a reminder to kill this fucker with no hesitation if you see them!
For context: this is a spotted lanternfly, it is highly invasive in the US, and causes damage to crops and plants. If you see them please report the sighting here and kill on sight.
More info
This species is a huge threat to ecosystems all over the United States. I hate to kill a bug but if I see this species I’ll do it quickly and humanely as possible, and report the sighting to the proper authorities! Here are some tips from the USDA on how to help minimize lanternfly infestation
Given how disturbingly violent a lot of the rhetoric around spotted lanternflies is, I feel like it's important to point out that these creatures are NOT a huge threat to ecosystems - they are a major threat to agricultural crops. The evidence suggests that spotted lanternflies pose a relatively minor threat to natural ecosystems compared to other invasive species, since they are generalists that don't specialize on any particular native species. Obviously it's bad to have lots of crops die, but it's important to have clarity that this is an economic/societal problem, and not so much a conservation/ecology problem (or at least not nearly to the same degree).
While spotted lanternflies are still a huge issue, I hope that knowledge can temper some of the instinctual rage and fear that these creatures inspire, and help people think both more pragmatically, and perhaps even more gently, about necessary evils of invasive species control.
Hi, invasion biologist here: while I understand and am sympathetic to the sentiment behind your additions to this post, @dozen-times-vanished , spotted lanternflies are a very real threat to North American ecosystems on a number of levels, and these messages urging the public to kill this species aren’t overblown. First, separating “economic/societal problems” from “conservation/ecology problems” is next to impossible in practice — agriculture has dramatic impacts on other parts of the environment, from fertilizer runoff causing dead zones in waterways to non-target species being poisoned with pesticides to water demand for crops draining entire rivers over time. Decreased crop yields due to attacks from agricultural pests often lead to increased fertilizer and pesticide application as farmers and growers try to compensate for their losses, intensifying the damage agriculture can do to other parts of the landscape. Additionally, many crop species that spotted lanternflies feed on and damage, like grapes, walnuts, and maples, are native to North America and are just as much a part of the “natural” environment as they are sources of food and timber. And while fruit-bearing trees and vines like apples, peaches, grapes, and hops may be most dramatically damaged by this insect, it feeds opportunistically on more than 70 other species, weakening the plants and making them more vulnerable to attack by other pests and diseases — and less resilient in the face of climate change. Overall, the damage is widespread and not merely limited to farmland — and this doesn’t even touch on how food insecurity is an environmental justice issue itself. Massive crop damage is not a win for anyone!
Spotted lanternflies, like other invasive species, aren’t evil or deliberately malicious — but calls to kill them aren’t done out of instinctive rage or fear either. Managing invasive species is already an extremely expensive and legislatively complex process on the state and federal levels, and each new introduction takes an unbelievable amount of time, money, and paperwork to try to control. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and encouraging the public to get involved by reporting — and yes, killing — this insect whenever possible is the only way environmental managers can stay on top of a rapidly-spreading invasion. I agree that the language used in posts about spotted lanternflies (and other invasive species) can get uncomfortably aggressive sometimes, and that nationalistic or xenophobic language shouldn’t be tolerated in the name of environmental protection, but I don’t see any of that in this particular thread of the reblog chain. (The comments further up may be a different story, alas.) Gentle pragmatism is a valuable approach to environmental management — but part of that pragmatism does require being clear on what’s at stake from socioeconomic and environmental perspectives alike (and, at the end of the day, killing some bugs.)

Heard some important information on Twitter today, and thought I’d post it here for anyone who may not have heard it. This is actually a thing, devised by human rights organisation called Karma Nirvana.

a harry potter au where potions is taught by gordon ramsay
neville: *messes up his potion*
gordon ramsay: *holds neville between two slices of bread* what are you
neville: an idiot sandwich
no no no!
Imagine that this is Gordon Ramsay a la Masterchef Junior
Neville: *messes up the potion, realizes it, starts crying quietly*
GR: What’s going on?
Neville: *explains how he messed up*
GR: Oh gosh okay…we can fix this, don’t cry, see, it’s fine now? Just be more careful when you’re adding the Newt’s eyes, all right? Drop them in gently. There we go. No more tears.
Neville: *giggles wetly, wiping eyes*
Yes, he only screams when he’s dealing with people that claim to know what they’re doing and clearly dont, when he’s teaching he’s very kind and patient because they’re still learning.
He’d probably do the bread thing to Malfoy.
nononononono. I get that Malfoy is a bit of a twat, but he’s still a kid. It’d be the teachers fucking up that he’d have trouble with.
Ramsay: All you had to do was treat it with a fucking Beozar!
Slughorn: It was a stressfu-
Ramsay: How long have you been teaching potions?!
or
Ramsay: So you’re going to raise this boy SPECIFICALLY so he can die as part of your twisted little scheme?
Dumbledore: It’s for the greater good, professor.
Ramsay: The greater fucking good?! *holds two slices of bread either side of dumbledoor’s face* What are you?
Dumbledore: Am I, per chance, an idiot sandwich?
Ramsay: Yes, you fucking are.
Okay, now I can reblog it!
@marauders4evr
Fantastic!
@alrightanakin
I’m in love
I MUST HAVE REBLOGGED A THOUSAND TIMESSSS
My favorite Gordon Ramsey moment is from the latest season of Master Chef Jr.
Gordon had run in to help a group of struggling kids with a team challenge and one of the older kids, a 12 year old boy, wasn’t passing attention while taking a pan out of the oven and not only spilled all the food but scalded Gordon.
It’s clear Gordon’s leg is in pain. He’s been badly burned without warning. But he doesn’t scream. He doesn’t yell, not even in pain, and he doesn’t go off on the child who is now frozen in fear. He calmly tells the child to set the pan down and to close the oven, safety first. Then tells him to go restart the food he was making, calm instructions.
My husband and I grew up in abusive homes where any mistake meant parents getting angry (my husband is terrified of spills or broken glasses because that meant beatings growing up, for me, anything going wrong, that could upset my mother, even if it wasn’t my fault meant screaming and emotional abuse).
I didn’t know someone could be so calm. That someone could not get angry, and put aside what they’re feeling (in this case a lot of physical pain) and not take it out on those around them, even when someone around them had messed up, because that person is a child.
Gordon Ramsey is a survivor of child abuse himself and as an adult, the most non-abusive person ever when it comes to kids.
im going to cry can gordon ramsey be my parent this sound so beautiful
Please take a moment to picture Gordon Ramsay taking over Potions when Snape becomes the DADA professor (instead of Slughorn) and not only being horrified when he realizes how terrified the students are that he’ll verbally abuse them when they mess up in Potions class but when he overhears how Snape treats students. Like can you IMAGINE the level of RAGE and CONTEMPT that Ramsay would harbor towards Snape? The asshat wouldn’t have made it to the end of HBP. Ramsay would’ve hexed his ass to kingdom come.
Rebloging ALL of this because Chef Ramsay is THE MAN!
-HC
Chef Ramsay would have become the kids’ favourite teacher and you can’t take that away from me.
Imagine him dealing with Umbridge
Every time I reblog this post, I swear to God, it only gets better.
