Tonight, I was supposed to be in Sandakan, so is everyone else to hold a bridal shower for this beloved friend of mine. Unfortunately, due to a worldwide level circumstances, we are all stranded in our own houses. BUT!! Besides the food and decoration part, I think we had a decent virtual bridal shower. We laughed, we played games and we drank when we lose. Most of all, we poured out love to our Bride-to-be. I love how @jacklynjacz was the only person that dressed up to her bridal shower (sorry, I thought we were just going to wear our pyjamas). And I also love we did the “Yaaaaaamseng” for no reason at all actually...we should be doing that during your wedding dinner. 2020.05.11 As many times as we had postponed our meet-up, that’s exactly how many times your flight got cancelled and your return back to Malaysia has been delayed. LOL I think it’s a blessing in disguise. Plus we get to explore a new restaurant both of us never been before! And Mediterranean food is one of my favourites (drools). Dorothy, thank you for spending time with me even when times are hard like this. Whenever I’m meeting up with someone before they leave, I thought I should meet with them before I can’t see them for a very long time, as expected I am still the one that’s being blessed. [When I Stayed At Home-Corona Spin-off Food Special 2] 2020.05.04 1-4. It is my first time making banana bread. Period. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. My first brownie took 3 times the time to prepare. I guess I’m getting more and more familiar with the procedures etc. I would say I’m pretty satisfied with the outcome. At least it wasn’t burned or inedible. 5-7. I have been fasting meat so I was looking for many alternatives of vegetables / eggs only recipes. I found something called spinach brownies so I got myself 1.2kg of spinach...I definitely over-bought. It isn’t a taste I would like normally. I never really like onion and cheese bread growing up and this tastes just like that but I think I’m just having very low expectations. It’s edible. LOL. 2020.05.09 8-9. Creamy spinach! I am missing the creamy spinach from Braai Republic. I used to work part time there and that is one of my favourite side dishes of all time. Tried to recreate but I think the recipe indicated more flour than what Braai would have used. Another edible dish! 2020.05.10 10. French toast and spinach apple juice. I got a few suggestions on what I can do with my leftover spinach in the fridge. So far I did two of the suggestions I got. Tastes like apple juice but only with extra chewing texture. [When I actually Stayed at Home -Corona spin-off, Ep.1] 2020.04.11 Another weekend and if I was gonna spend the day sleeping or Netflix...I thought what better time than now given the situation, to invite a few friends over to catch up and make some food together. Lindsey came over early to help me with the brownies I wanted to bake for Dani because she was asking if I could make some for her after seeing me post about it few days ago. It is a little different from the first one I’ve made because I used a higher tray and I also changed the white sugar to brown sugar. The texture is more cakey and the taste is sweeter. Besides that, I personally challenged a new food which is 감자전. It was my first time making that from scratch and it wasn’t bad except I was a little stingy with the salt :/ we also made other pancakes such as 부추전 & 애호박전. We had home kbbq & the pancakes for dinner, and of course some makgeolli to compliment the pancakes. I had a really great time just making food for each other and chatting, spending an evening with people I cherish and enjoy. Oh, I also dyed some eggs for Easter but none of them wants to bring the egg home so I ended up eating them for breakfast the next day. :/ 2020.04.12 After online Easter service, @rebekahhan suggested we make dalgona coffee at home. I wasn’t very thrilled with making dalgona coffee personally because apparently everyone is making it. But after watching Rebekah whisking that dalgona into form (though we hoped we had more coffee at home), maybe there’s a reason why people are so into it. Hahaha...I didn’t know a person’s arm can turn into a whisking machine. The whole process was really fascinating. Rebekah was craving for some Indonesian food so we went to the supermarket to get our ingredientsWe got the Palak Paneer for free from the foreign mart. Ayam goreng turned bakar, the highlight: tempeh, & spinach gravy for dinner. [When I actually Stayed at Home-Corona spin-off, Rooftop renovation Ep.1] *Keep swiping to see the before and after photos* 2020.04.04-05 @rebekahhan & I used our weekend to repaint the interior of the rooftop room that is...at the rooftop of our house. It was a small place, probably about 3mx2.5m in area. Someone used to live there but then it was just a storage room when we first moved in. The owner said we could use the room so we thought it’ll be good to put that place into better use than just storage space. The first day we painted all 4 walls and the window casing. We let our dog come into the room and in the beginning it seems like she was very eager to be in all our photos but later proved it was a bad idea because she got paint on her hair and then we had to shave all the hair and apparently the paint gave her a lot of pain in her eyes too. Sorry @kacang_account 🐕. The second day we finished up the ceiling and also the corners of the walls and some touching up on the painting we did the day before. We also lined the baseboard (in our case, base tape). We finally got the interior done. Just needed to get the electrician to come and get the electricity going. [When I actually Stayed at Home -Corona spin-off, Food special] 2020.03.21 1-2. The first cooking “project” that I did was actually mix berries jam. I bought a new pot for the jam because I learned that the acid might make the metal release some unwanted chemical. I have stainless steel pot but they’re all too thin. Making the jam wasn’t hard. Sterilising those jars are. I don’t have a decent pot that’s deep enough to submerge the jars entirely so I had to sterilise them horizontally which explains why I only did 2 jars. 3-5. I wanted to use the oven no matter what so I searched on the internet for food that I can bake with what I have at home. I was surprised they baked the meat and the frozen vegetables together. Given that I’m not a professional, I messed up. The first round my chicken breast was undercooked. The 2nd round my vegetables are overcooked aka burnt. Listen to the sound of the oil cooking inside the oven. Therapeutic. 2020.03.25 6. Just a random post of one of my food preps for packed lunch. I’m starting to miss home cooked food. And I was craving this. 2020.03.29 7-8,10. I asked multiple people whom I know that bakes and asked them for a recipe for someone who’s a newbie in baking. All of them told me that I can’t mess up brownies. I sorta did...it came out a dry but still tastes delicious! Tip: microwave the brownie and top it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It’s the best kind of home dessert. 9. I was craving for spinach ravioli too. I didn’t make this. It’s frozen ravioli. Just had to boil the ravioli and stir the boiled ravioli into the cream sauce which came with the pack. You can add other stuff to make it better. It has only been less than 3 months into 2020 and I’ve said goodbye to multiple people that I’ve met in Korea whom eventually became dear friends of mine. @conman757 thank you for coming all the way to my office today and have lunch with me! 2020.01.28 //Part 3// Moscow, Russia 1. Outside of their accommodation, which I didn’t get to stay in. The neighbourhood looks nice. Won’t you just look at this exact scene? 2. Just entered Red Square. The building with all the lightings is Гум (Gum, pronounced as goom). 3. This is Kremlin and I was probably at the other side of it. It was cold and I didn’t have much time because I had to go to the airport that night to catch my plane back so I just looked at it from the distant. 4. So Gum is a very long, big and also a tourist spot, high-end mall at the Red Square but lightings were soo beautiful. They had a little amusement park in front of it so it was a little hard to take a full shot of the building because of the tents covering the main facade. This was the only opening big enough to fill the frame. 5. Saint Basil’s Cathedral at the Red Square. One of the most famous landmark in Russia. I made a mistake and opened the cover of my camera before I rolled it so parts of my film got exposed to the light. Took me really long to find a good timing for this ONE photo of ONE Husky because they were constantly moving and barking, being their active selves but my hands were so cold being my tropical self. 2. A team of Siberian & Alaska huskies, waiting for the signal by the musher to run. 3. The famous icebreaker, ЛЕНИН (Lenin) which is now a museum ship permanently stationed at the port of Murmansk. 4. The museum was close because we went on a Sunday. Was a little disappointed we couldn’t get to see the interior but getting so close to a historical ship this big was already eye-opening enough. 8. 2020.01.23-25 // Part 1// Moscow-Kursk, Russia // 1. I was on the flight from Almaty to Moscow which was 5am-8am local time. An Indian man who climbed Mount Everest was sitting in the same row as me. Just the two of us. He would just reached out his arm and take photos at the window, mind you, I was sitting at the window seat. I was shock whenever I turn around from the window I would see his arm in front of me. We were flying away from the sun the whole time until we had to head north that’s when we finally saw the sunrise. And he was sleeping while I was awake and taking these photos. And then he eventually woke up and he wanted to take some photos but I was taking a long video by the time I was done the best part of the sunrise was gone. I felt bad so I asked for his Facebook to send him the photos I took since I blocked him and I know how much he wanted to take photos but didn’t because I was at the window the whole time. He even sent me an Instagram request too. I’m sorry I didn’t approve your request. :/ 2. The mural is at the back of the mall called Атриум. 3-4. 2020.01.24 Sorry this took too long. So, as some of you who followed my instastories or friends I’ve told to, I was in Russia 🇷🇺 a little less than 2 weeks ago to celebrate this beautiful being whom I used to share my chocolate with everyday at school because she finally became a doctor. 👩🏻‍⚕️ I wanted to be there for you because you lost your biggest supporter in life and I know, I will not or even try to think that my presence will fill her spot. As your friend I think this the least I can do for you and for your family. To represent to Wong family at your graduation. I don’t know if I’ve told you about this before but I also remember this random conversation your mum and I had long time ago and there is one thing I remember very clearly from that conversation. She said this to me at the dining table while you were upstairs getting ready: “tolong ba bawa si meymey belajar. ajar ba dia, Lydia.” But now look at you, you have studied too much, more than I did 😂. So many years in Russia away from your family, yet you have endured past the hardest and darkest time, sometimes there are moments when no one even sees you when you were struggling (I am already proud just because of this), but you came out victorious! 🏆 I really have not much to say except that I am so proud of you and so are your family, also not forget, your mum would be so proud of you too for your resilience. At this point in our life, things like distance nor disagreements nor time zone difference should be able to stand in the way of our friendship, which I cherish a lot with my heart. I love you so so much, future godmother of my children (except for the first child that Lim claimed) and also my future maid of honour if I ever get married.
