Wild as the hivliving discourse was, I feel the need to specify that the core of it had nothing to do with Hamilton fanfic, that was just the inexplicable and cursed smoking gun.
The chick behind the blog was a fairly typical scam artist, race faking/disability faking is actually pretty common among donation scammers. This particular scammer had been running her blog for 4+ years while pretending to be three people with HIV, and just happened to get involved with the Hamilton fandom while running this blog.
Ultimately, her downfall came from her interactions in that fandom, where she wrote a callout post (while still pretending to be three poc women with hiv) about some random chick who wrote a bizzare cannibal mermaid fic. So the mermaid writer decided to look into the history of Hivliving and gathered up their real identity, busting the whole scam open in the process.
The trippy fanfic bullshit was just salad dressing for a normal scam, and that’s the wildest part to me. Hivliving could have carried on indefinitely had she not decided to get involved in Hamilton fic drama.
Truly, a parable for the modern era.
