you ever sit with the enormity of how lucifer rising wasn’t about salmondean but actually castiel who literally changed the trajectory and the entire premise of the show and plot within the story. dean rips into him yeah but cas was always like this. he was already confining to dean he’s not a hammer on their what 3rd meeting?? . the whole of supernatural is about cas making homosexual decisions. this wasn’t supposed to happen!! we’re making it up as we go!!! is crazy to say for a few minutes of dean winchester yelling about what’s real. the angel didn’t need much nudging he was basically dropping his books purposefully clumsily and saying oops i hope theres a cute boy here to help me pick them up

Idk I think it's better when you remember that Dean is an asshole, his ability to love literally changed the narrative yes, but he's also selfish, exacting and snide. He likes shitty horror movies and his family and pie but he's also a control freak with the kind of anxiety that makes him angry, the kind of fear that twists so easily into blinding rage. He likes saving people, he wants to make a difference, even if that's just one more person alive when they would have died, and yet he still has to grapple with the 'what makes a monster' question again and again because he's prejudiced and unpacking that isn't linear and sometimes he makes mistakes, sometimes he weighs the possibility of maybe and makes it never even if that means more red in his ledger. He has trauma responses that aren't cute and sympathetic, they're frightening and they hurt him and those closest to him. Also he's a huge bitch and he loves judging people and making comments and jokes at the expense of others.

i simply cannot get over cas’ face post godstiel arc. he literally went 🥺 and everyone forgave him

Crazy that's it's canon that the reason Dean could immediately tell there was something "a little off" about Casifer when he thinks it's still Cas is the fact that he's used to Cas looking and interacting with him as someone who is in love with him and Lucifer cannot replicate that

Remember when Casifer put his hand on the Wrong Shoulder™ and Dean immediately did a weirded out double take and after that be was like "did he seem weird to you?" to Sam who said no. SAM who's been in the cage with Lucifer did NOT catch on, but DEAN who didn't feel the Handprint Boner™ DID

anyway despite their own internal struggles regarding usefullness, neither dean or cas have ever viewed each other just in terms of utility. did "i want you, cursed or not" and "you aren't a machine, dean" mean nothing to you loveless cynics

It's the emotional wound they have in common. They both see themselves in terms of utility, and struggle to grasp being liked and valued only for themselves and no other reason.
