excerpts from erin in the morning's article on the ioc's ban on transgender women and sex testing policy
The fact that they're not testing men says it all.
Wikipedia articles for the two athletes mentioned who committed and attempted suicide. Horrible.
I think the absolute worst term to come out of this age of pseudo-scientific puritanical bullshit has got to be “dopamine addiction”. “You’re addicted to feeling good and having fun” bitch yeah???? What else are we on this earth to do??
letting yourself be calm or bored and not constantly consuming media or keeping busy can be good for you.
having tea or coffee or whatever drink you like while just sitting with your thoughts should be something a person can and will do regularly.
i feel dopamine when I do those things. They make me happy just sitting there with a drink though.
Getting up on my gay little soapbox again to remind everyone that prev is correct. Dopamine is not a chemical that is only released when you are overstimulated by Media Consumption or whatever. You can get a dopamine hit from sitting calmly in the dark and watching the rain. It is a pleasure chemical, not a Capitalism Chemical. Stop conflating “pleasure” with “being constantly busy and unable to tear yourself away from scrolling social media”. I hate social media and I love being alone with my thoughts. If you’re unable to experience joy in everyday life you probably need to be on antidepressants. That’s not me trying to be dismissive I’m speaking from experience.
Fuck small talk. Let’s talk about how your day was, the weather, or the big game last night.
For those who don't know: Ikumi Nakamura is the woman who was senior artist on Bayonetta, and designed the titular character along with Hideki Kamiya. Their greatest moment of bonding was over their insistence that Bayonetta keep her glasses on at all times. Nakamura cannot go to horny jail. She is the warden.
Happy pride month to her and her exclusively
she made a comic about the experience on twitter
happy pride

The legacy of France can and should only be remembered as one utterly stained by (or, more accurately, formed from) its brutal colonialist and imperialist endeavours.
@sissa-arrows source (french)
French police killed at least 100 people in 1961, throwing some of them into the River Seine to drown them.
this part is especially triggering for me, since i learnt this past 17th October, that my Grandmother, who was 15 years old at the time, arrived with her mother at this horrific scene a bit too late and was nearly arrested by the police. I can't imagine what would have happened to her if they had left the house earlier.
The rare white people who witnessed this on the right side of history said that one of the things they won’t forget is how they fellow white parisians turned into informants for the police and how during all of the night they called the cops on the Algerians who managed to hide or escape.
Over 200 Algerians were killed that night over 500 if you count the one killed in the following nights but thousands more were arrested (over 10000) every single ministry was an accomplice they used to public buses to transport them kept them in a stadium because the precincts were not big enough… While the people killed were men and women, the people arrested were a huge majority of men. So the following days the women and children started calling for a peaceful march to ask for their husbands and fathers to be released. This time they knew that the public opinion wouldn’t look kindly to it if they killed them. So the police instead arrested the women and sent them to a psychiatric hospitals saying they were unstable and needed to be locked inside. Luckily the director was a good man so he refused to lock the women inside the hospital saying they were perfectly sane but he also refused to let the police take them. So he waited until the police left to help the women leave back to their places.
There’s a documentary about it (I don’t remember if the psychiatric hospital was in this documentary or in an other) made by an Algerian woman in the diaspora in France. It’s filled with testimonies and a woman explains that when her husband left for the protest he told her to take care of the children and that if something happened to him she needed to make sure their children would go to school school and be good students. He survived to October 17 but was found and killed by the police on the 19th.
Lastly in 2021 Macron pretended to atone for what happened and with the police prefect they went to pay their respect on the bridge where most of the massacre happened and they went to put flowers. He was the first president doing it. Except after doing it in front of the camera the police then stopped the peaceful march that the survivors and the families of the victims organize every year and they kept them from putting flowers there and pay their respect. Macron did a lot of fucked up shit but pretending to acknowledge a massacre from the police while using the police to stop Algerians from paying their respects to the victims was really the thing that stayed in my mind the most. Nothing says “we actually don’t regret sending the police against a peaceful protest of Algerians and will do it again” as well as sending the police against the peaceful march organized by the descendants of those killed and by the survivors…
Why shouldn't you use utorrent?
They are owned by the same corporation as bittorrent and are practically identical in all but name these days. They are proprietary, closed source, have built-in ads, and use telemetry to track usage. They are a privacy nightmare and a scourge on the torrent ecosystem.
qBittorrent is open source, full of features, modern, has a wonderful community, easier to use, has less cruft, natively cross platform, and tends to be more secure in their usage of up-to-date dependencies.
Bonus: if you need to use a VPN for any reason go to settings -> advanced -> and select the VPN as the only available adapter, this makes it so it can ONLY download or upload (seed) via your VPN. This stops the need to make sure you have your VPN on or accidentally leave it off when using P2P networks to help preserve your privacy.
we gotta get back to torrent distribution, i just watched someone eat eight grand in bandwidth charges because they ran a direct-download piracy site with local file hosting through cloudflare. torrents were invented literally for this exact reason
torrents work like this
i have a file or folder on my pc that i want to share with other people. let's call it gayshit.mp3
unfortunately gayshit.mp3 is 750mb and im not paying for discord nitro so i need another way to send it
i put it into qbittorrent and it makes a torrent file. this is essentially a very small file that points to gayshit.mp3 so other computers can find it. kinda like a treasure map
i send this tiny file to my friend, who loads it into qbittorrent. their computer takes a moment to find mine over the vast expanse of cyberspace and then (as long as my pc is running and the file is still where it should be), it gets copied from my hard drive to theirs
this is the cool part: if somebody else loads that tiny file, they can download it from both of us. if i'm offline but my friend is on, the third person can still get it. this also means that if two people have separate halves of the file, they can download the other half from each other. as long as some combination of people have the pieces between them, they can all have the whole thing.
crucially this does not require a server!!! you can just upload the file to a few people and as long as they keep it, it's still accessible. as long as somebody, somewhere is still connected, it's available forever. the only way it goes away is if everybody disconnects from it.
please learn to torrent
An expert guide to get started using torrentsTorrents are one of the most popular forms of file sharing on the internet, accounting for over
always use qbittorrent, do not use bittorrent or utorrent.
i walk out of the shower, and bam, first thing im greeted with is my cat gagging. four seconds into being clean, and barf is already making its way back into my life.
my first thought is to "take the bullet for the president." the bullet of course being cat yack, and the president being the thick luxurious carpets of my bedroom.
i discard this thought. im clean. i like being clean. i have been clean for only four seconds.
my second thought is to remember that there is a large, plastic sheeted area in the corner near the cats food bowl. ms. kitty is a messy eater, so she has to eat on the sheet.
i grab my cat and toss it across the room onto the sheet. i feel like im throwing a live grenade out of my trench. cat drives heaves once in my arms, then throws up in midair, approximately one foot out of my grasp.
i watch the barf fly in the same arc as my cat. conservation of momentum. theres not much velocity imbued by peristalsis.
both land at the same time. vomit splats. cat lands gracefully. she turns around, looks at me with total serenity, and throws up a second time. still on the plastic. i tell her that shes a great cat for staying still to do that. she does not give a shit.
i get some dirty clothes out of my laundry hamper and pile them up so she can sit on them. she loves dirty laundry. cats are nasty like that. i clean up the barf and she watches with interest. i have tossed her across the room, and now, stolen her barf. i am utterly befuddling to her. she tolerates me though because i give good scritches.
i toss the vomit soaked paper towels into the trash and come back with a bowl of bottled water (she has preferences) and a cat squeezy treat. she accepts three sips of water but declines the treat. very reasonable. i go back downstairs and put the treat in a ziplock in the fridge so she can have it tomorrow. i come back and shes trotting on her wheel.
i ask how long shes been able to do that. she doesn't answer - in part because she is a cat, but mostly because she is an asshole. she just keeps jogging. i turn to walk away and she meows at me to spin the wheel faster.
i do not. i go upstairs and play halo. a few minutes later she comes and sits next to me before falling asleep.

Cool
Uhm,, sorry sweatie, but we have no principles and are glad to abandon your human rights for a handful of votes that we're not gonna get anyway bc we don't believe in offering anything to anyone either 😍🥰😘
It seems like if you’re concerned about literal fascism, mass demonization and rollback of the human rights of unpopular subaltern groups is something that should the fucking well concern you.
first they came for the trans people, but I did not speak up, because I was too concerned with the abstract concept of opposing fascism to actually do anything
This species of liberal scold do not oppose fascism or, in any meaningful sense, even know what it is.
For them it's just the current buzzword for the same "we're never going to help you, but if you support us unquestioningly we might not let the republicans hurt you as much" concept they've been running for decades. It's a good cop/bad cop routine, and they've learned that the bad cop is called "fascism" this year. It's all they care to know. Learning more would complicate their politics in ways they can't tolerate.
no one cares that you shave your legs because of sensory issues shut the fuck up forever
really galling amount of people misinterpreting this post so i'd like to clarify. i'm saying that when discussions about patriarchal beauty standards and the way women are heavily shamed and coerced into eschewing their own natural state of being (hairy) are occurring, it is unhelpful (AT BEST) to interrupt and say that the reason YOU remove the hair from your body is because of sensory issues. that's not what we're talking about. stop asking for validation for doing something that society at large wants you to do. stop derailing the conversation because you feel uncomfortable about being made aware that you, for whatever reason it is, adhere to harmful, unfair and ridiculous beauty standards. you're stepping into the middle of an important conversation that needs to be had and making it all about you. shut the fuck up forever.
also quite frankly i think a lot less people would experience sensory issues if they let their hair grow out so that it isn't bristly and rough and irritating. and i cannot help but wonder why these sensory issues aren't as predominant in men. maybe you're uncomfortable with the hair on your body because you've been taught to be uncomfortable with it. just a thought.

Waldinneres (In the Forest), 1933 painting by Hans Emmenegger
Thank you @nuka-rockit I was actually going to ask if anyone spoke German and if that translation, which came from Wikipedia, was any sort of accurate. Fascinating. Titles are so important.
