"Just because I'm right, doesn't mean I'm being helpful" is a vastly underrated thought process that I strongly encourage others to get comfortable with
Hey op thanks for fundamentally rearranging my molecules in some helpful way this fine evening
I often think about that post that was a fake dating profile for a cat that was all about chickens, like wanting someone with posable thumbs for opening chickens.
This is one my favourite things the internet has ever made.
!!!!!!
This remains one of the great art objects of modern times and nobody will convince me otherwise.
one of the funniest conversations I ever had with my ex was when they were still getting used to Celsius and asked me "what's 20 degrees?" and instead of converting it, I said "it's the highest your dad will ever let you set the thermostat and when you say you're cold he tells you to put on another sweater, we're not made of money" and they went "oh, 68"
the fact that this reference was that fucking precise was something they went on to tell people about for years.
"it's not that deep" START DIGGING!!

OOPS TOO DEEP

🎨 Black Karpati [Roan: Karpati (Carpathian) Pattern]
When we were children, my sister had private music lessons at her violin teacher’s house. I only visited there once, but I still remember that afternoon. The teacher had an artificial pond in her yard, a large beautiful thing with lily pads and plant life. And in the pond, there were goldfish. I had never seen such enormous goldfish.
I spent several minutes just staring at them (and trying to convince them to bite my fingers.) When my sister’s violin lesson ended, her teacher came out to the yard and explained that these goldfish were the same small creatures that were often unfortunately sold in plastic bags at state fairs. They were only about two inches long apiece, when she bought them and put them in the new, empty pond. In essence, they were like every goldfish I had seen before, but they had been given a much larger, much richer environment in which to flourish. As a result, they had grown into some of the most remarkable, vibrant creatures my twelve-year-old self had ever met with. All because of a pond.
Funny what lessons children remember. My sister doesn’t play the violin anymore, but that was the first time I caught a glimpse of the overwhelming extent to which it matters, the way the world treats us.
Reblogged again for this drawing I made for it
Give us room to grow and see how we flourish.
Free evac cards are back!
Guess what's finally back! That's right, free evac cards. I have put them up on my Payhip as a pay-what-you-want product, including free. This will make it much easier for me to manage orders and anyone who wants to make donations to support the creation of these cards. Right now I have about 300 in stock, so lots to go around.
---
Evacuations are stressful and frequently sudden. In such situations it is easy to forget things, no matter how much you may have prepared beforehand. These cards are designed to live in your wallet and function as a quick reference guide and list of items to remember during an evacuation based on how much time you have.
I provide these cards for free as often as I can, so if you want to get them for free, you can do that! You get to pick the price, and $0 is a 100% acceptable answer. However, if you do chose to pay even $1, that money will go towards producing more free cards for others, envelopes, and stamps.
To make sure these cards are available to as many people as possible, please try to limit your order to ten cards at a time. If you would like to discuss a larger order for yourself, your business, your non-profit, your emergency department, or anything else, shoot me an email at [email protected] and we can discuss options!
---
You can grab them now in my Payhip Store!

formative years? aren’t they all?
show me a permanent self and i will show you a facade or a corpse
I had a dream that Jax made a doll version of himself but female, with some features of the other tadc crew, such as Rag's hair on the dolls head but longer and with a ponytail, and wearing a dress. It was so adorable I cried in my own dream while pointing it out to Jax.
god damn this is a QUILT (‘late day shadows’ by nancy messier)
THIS IS A QUILT?!?!?!?
so many creatures putting SO much effort into putting ‘special’ fluids that TOTALLY aren’t water through every organ possible to clean them so they can use them again 2 seconds later. like why not simply sit on a damp substrate and pull water through your body by evaporating the extra out pores in your leaves lmaoooo
‘nooo nooo you don’t get it I need the big organ to run the fast firing nerves to run the machines that make the fluid go to work the big organ’. whatever chordate. lol
troubleshooting time: arid area, low on damp substrate. what do?
good question! you could try closing your leaf pores for a while until more appears… sometimes you can also put more tubes down and feel around until you find some. water comes from the opposite direction of the sun unless it doesn’t ❤️ glad I could help!!
omg useless advice from privileged mfs from wet climates as usual... bet you don't even use CAM.
ok first of all i checked your profile and of COURSE its all meadows, say youre a grass who does C4 without saying youre a grass who does C4 100% speedrun challenge. sorry i wasnt blessed with a whole separate sheath of cells for increasing photosynthetic efficiency and nothing else but some of us actually have to adapt and deal with the VERY REAL AND SEVERE effects of photorespiration... literally imagine having 30 foot deep roots posting this. second of all 'plants in wet climates are privileged' you can literally live in water and use CAM??? isoetes erasure per usual on this website, neglected by an angiosperm monocot no less. why am i not surprised
this is why I come to tumblr. Nowhere else could I get Botany Discourse
Coyotes trying their damndest to get domesticated
Thoughts, in approximate order:
You know, given how C. lupus, C. lupus familiaris, and C. latrans can all create perfectly viable hybrids, and that the proto-dogs that domestic dogs descended from much more resembled coyotes than wolves, it's not really a surprise that some yotes are experimenting with domestication.
Goddamn that lady must be fucking shredded to be able to chase down a coyote through a swamp.
"Don't let wild animals into your house, you are not going to make Dogs 2.0, you're going to get injured and the animal killed." is probably obvious enough advice that I don't need to put it in the tags as a reminder.
...I know more than four people on this site that have poisoned themselves trying out 'foraging guides' they found online, two people IRL who tried to keep raccoons at pets, and have a family member who got hospitalized for Cat Scratch Fever after grabbing a feral cat bare-handed. This is apparently, not obvious enough.
Do Not Attempt To Domesticate Coyotes

[ id taken from alt text: An eight-panel diary comic featuring a purple crow.
Panel 1: The crow whistles to himself as he unlocks the front door of his house A trans flag hangs in the window.
Panel 2: “Excuse me!” calls a pink capybara from a nearby car. The crow jumps, startled.
Panel 3: “Hi!” waves the capybara, “I just wanted to say, I’m the mom of a trans kiddo...”
Panel 4: “And I know it makes them feel good when we drive past the flag in your window,” the capybara continues.
Panel 5: The crow looks at the flags as the capybara concludes, “It lets them know there’s other people like them out there.”
Panel 6: The crow pauses, eyes water and mouth open.
Panel 7: “You’re welcome!” says the crow
Panel 8: Later, the crow happily thinks to himself, “trans kiddo! trans kiddo! trans kiddo! trans kiddo! trans kiddo! trans kiddo!” / end id ]
Queer joy detected!
One time I was at the bookstore looking for some graphic novels for my kiddo and I couldn't find where in the darn place they'd hid them, so I politely asked an employee where to find them. Said employee had a buzz cut and "they/them" on their name tag. They escorted me to the graphic novels and started recommending some to me, and at one point asked me if the kid I was shopping for was a boy or a girl. I smiled and said they were nonbinary, and the employee's entire body lit up. I hope it made the employee's day as much as it made mine.
