toni morisson is the master of skinning white supremacy so elegantly and artfully wit tha scalpel like precision.
Here’s the thing: she said this in an interview with Charlie Rose and even when I saw this on TV as a child, it seemed obvious that she was skinning and flaying him, not necessarily for being racist but for not interrogating the problem:
Toni Morrison: Yes I do Charlie, but let me tell you that’s the wrong question.
Charlie Rose: OK,what is the right question?
Toni Morrison: How do you feel? Not you, Charlie, but don’t you understand the people who do this thing, who practice racism, are bereft. There is something distorted about the psyche. It is a huge waste and it is a corruption and a distortion. It’s like a profound neurosis that nobody examines for what it is.
It feels crazy. It is crazy, and it has just as much of a deleterious effect on white people and possibly equal as it does black people. I always knew that I had the moral high ground, all of my life. I always thought that those people who said I couldn’t come into the drug store or had to sit in these funny places…
Charlie Rose: You felt more morally secure than they were?
Toni Morrison: I did and I thought that they knew that I knew that they were inferior to me. Morally, I always thought that. My parents always thought that.
Charlie Rose: You said your father was racist because he always felt like he was superior.
Toni Morrison: That’s right. He always felt superior, and that was a form of defensive racism.
If the racist white person, and I don’t mean if the person is examining his consciousness, doesn’t understand that he or she is also a race, it’s also constructed. It’s also made and it also has some serviceability. When you take it away, if I take your race away, there you are all strung out and then all you have got is your little self.
What is that? What are you without racism? Are you any good? Are you still strong? Are you still smart? Do you still like yourself? These are the questions. Part of it is, yes the victim, how terrible it has been for black people.
Charlie Rose: Were you ever like that?
Toni Morrison: I’m not a victim. I refuse to be one.
Charlie Rose: The victim is the other person who is morally inferior? Who can hold onto racism for his or her own self-esteem in definition.
Toni Morrison: That’s a serious question. If you can only be tall because somebody is on their knees than you have a serious problem. My feeling is white people have a very, very serious problem. They should start thinking about what they can do about it. Take me out of it.
If you can only be tall because somebody is on their knees then you have a serious problem.
"lock in" is probably one of the most important phrases to enter the public lexicon in the 2020s

I agree , practicing medicine without a medical Doctor license is unlawful
Me when I catch myself thinking "I wonder what it's like to be chosen by somebody" but then I remember my best friend chooses to be my best friend and my mutuals choose to follow me and the minimum wage employee chooses to give me sincere kindness that I remember years later because I was going through a hard time and it meant a lot
The real horror of a Stepford Wives situation isn't 'the suburbs are creepy' or even 'conformity is creepy' or 'I don't wanna be replaced by a robot'
The horror is the idea that you might choose to spend your life with somebody only to realize they don't actually want a partner and friend, somebody with ambitions and thoughts and joy. They want somebody productive, compliant, and sexually available, and all your internal life is nothing but a barrier to that. That the person you love only loves what you do for them, and the less of the an actual person you are, the happier they are.
I’m sorry, but the logic that a rapist “won’t stop” because you’ve warned other people about their behavior so it’s meaningless to warn other people is so stupid. I think potential victims actually have a right to know about predators in their community. Lack of accountability is not an argument against warnings, it’s actually an argument for them.

A skilled artisan is a joy to witness

People who think sheep are killed for their wool are so hilarious to me. Does your barber slit your throat whenever you get a haircut?? Are you a returning customer to Sweeney Todd? Lmao it grows back, fools.
This is completely ignoring the fact that the sheep's soul is stored in its wool. So sure, the body remains, but the spirit, the essence of the sheep, that's gone forever, and then as the wool regrows a new soul moves in.
Same for me, I get a new soul with every haircut. That's why my personality changes so much.
Tumblr citizenship means being completely unsure if the person posting about sheep souls is being 100% serious or is just taking the piss.
THEY TAKE THEIR PISS TOO?!?!?
6 hour workday maximum i’m not kidding, if it can’t be done in that timeframe it doesn’t need doing.
this doesn't apply to jobs like childcare
If i worked in childcare and my 6 hours were up i would start putting babies in ziploc bags and shipping them to Turkmenistan listed as endangered fruits and vegetables
not to be a hedonist but. pleasure IS the whole point, my loves. we are made for pleasure. humans have not survived out of spite or sheer grit or simply to make more humans. we live for pleasure. the pleasure of licking the last delicious crumbs off your fingers and feeling sunlight on your skin and massaging a loved one's shoulders. we're made to fill our bellies with delicious food, to nap in soft grass, to touch each other in joy and comfort.
there is no shame or guilt in our bodies doing what they were made to do. and we are made for pleasure.
The demonizing of hedonism, of pleasure in general, is literally christian dogma. And I hate how much of a grip it has on even supposedly secular culture.

Getting down on my knees and thanking the humans who invented dishwashers and washing machines.
InsNe that dishwashers are more efficient and easier than just washing them manually but they also use less water. It’s a win win situation
They ALSO sterilize dishes, due to operating at a far higher temperature than human hands could ever tolerate. It's a win every way.
Made this post about 15 minutes after the repair guy who fixed the pump on my dishwasher packed up his tools and left, as the dishwasher was whirring along doing my dishes from that morning.
He said the exact same thing, which I did not know before that, so spreading this knowledge.
