and can we maybe think of why a lot of historical feminist pushes to make masculine things gender neutral worked and now in the current modern day nobody bats an eye if women wear pants, but men wearing feminine things is still a hot topic of debate at best and grounds for violent assault at worst? is there maybe a word for this phenomenon?

i think the simplest example of this is things are nearly always a he at default, if it’s a fantasy creature *he’s* doing something, if it’s an inanimate object it’s often a *he* - everything must be attributed masculinity because that is a societal default and unless something explicitly preforms and acts out femininity in its entirety (and even if it does, that isn’t often enough as is the case with transmysogynists) it is a he in some way and even if *he* isn’t used it’s dude or bro or any other thing that can be dismissed as something other than male defaultism. That defaultism is a reward that can be seen when something is explained not to be a *he* when a fantasy creature is explained to be aligned with femininity or androgyny it’s no longer annoying or a fucker or anything it’s a bitch it’s a cunt it’s a whore it’s any misogynistic comment possible because the lack of maleness makes something lesser and require some kind of societal punishment

Listening to the radio while they report on the SCOTUS ruling yesterday that states can ban specifically trans girls and women from girls/womens sports programs. The people they interview: a trans boy with his cis mother and a trans man. The trans man says one of the things that hampers progress is "no one talks to us." Idk man the radio station didn't talk to any trans women, they talked to you, a trans man. Seems like they are pretty willing to talk to you and not the people this ruling actually directly affects.

tumblr users really have the gall to send you some google doc about a woman you don't even know and going "what?! you won't publicly shun her with me?! you don't trust me, an internet stranger meticulously documenting everything this woman who in all likelihood you'll never meet in your life does??"

most ‘adult animation’ is not being made from a genuine desire to tell a story with the medium that handles topics more severe or with more gravity than children’s animation. Rather, there’s a bizarre impulse to both disavow that existing animation out of insecurity for one’s enjoyment of it and a really juvenile instinct to ‘adultify’ something in the most straightforward way possible withoit any appreciation for what actually makes something quote unquote “mature” (a descriptor I’m somewhat disavowing). Add on to this that these people lack a desire to actually engage in a narrative that might be discomforting, grim or otherwise confronting, and you get the combination that spawns most adult animation. ‘Adult’ because it has swears and fuck jokes and deals with edgy things like HELL or CONSPIRACY THEORIES or DRUGS. It results in shows like the hellaverse, inside job and whatever the fuck big mouth is about. Dont get me wrong, I have an ironic-to-genuine enjoyment of the first two despite them being kinda crap. Thus us why I actually do not say these things are ‘adult’ animation: regardless of what the creators intend, it is kiddy shit. Specifically edgy 15 year olds who wish they could play on their psp during church service, reflective of many of the creators own impulses (no hate, you can make whatever you want and I think animation for edgy teens is a valuable niche, they deserve something to watch aside from just attack on titan after all). You can even see it in the velocity of their pacing, the heavy handedness of their plot and the drama of their visuals, there’s an assumption of an audience nit being prepared to actually sit around a bit. Compare that to, as an example, scavengers reign. Patient, subdued except for when deliberately raucous, and its designated edgy antics being the way a man abuses his wife and the people around him to launder his own inadequacy. If I may put a soapbox on a soapbox, the fact said character is Not allowed to die but rather is made to live and endure the consequences of his actions, even fix them, is proof of its commitment to being ‘adult’.
