I also think it’s so unfair to treat Drew as a “mean girl” stereotype in the books when… That’s a child soldier. Regina George wasn’t a child soldier. Heather Chandler wasn’t a child soldier. Drew Tanaka was a child soldier. Her behaviour doesn’t only stem from societal pressure, familial pressure, social hierarchies, and internalised misogyny. Drew experienced war, betrayal, and death. Drew had to live with the knowledge that her loved ones could die in the war. Her sister did die in the war, after revealing she’s a spy. Belittling Drew’s experiences to pure “mean girl energy” feels counterintuitive to the point that being a demigod is inherently traumatising, something Percy mentions several times in the original series and something that causes most if not all the main conflicts in the original series.
