deft's 2022 DRX worlds run is so narratively perfect that if it was a sports anime people would call it cliche

the playoff opponents he faced were literally the team he'd developed on, the direct successor to both the team that he'd debuted on and the team that sent him home at his first worlds, and the resurgent greatest team of all time led by the best player of all time who was also his high school classmate, playing alongside the former teammate who had promised to win worlds with him and an incredible young prodigy in the ADC role to contrast Deft the storied veteran. all on a team that barely even qualified for the tournament by literally the slimmest margin possible

some of the calls from that tournament are burned into my brain... "DEFT WILL NOT FALL. ZEKA WILL NOT ALLOW IT"... the legendary caedrel fbomb... "one final chapter, one more page..." god sports is awesome

genuinely nothing is more corrosive to love, respect, or trust than the insecurity of forever being second and last in line. of always being the plus one but never invited; always tolerated on their behalf but never wanted on your own. of knowing that nobody's jealousy or admiration is about you at all, only your place at their side. you tell them that you feel like you only exist when you're with them, and they laugh, charmed, but it isn't a figure of speech. it's not enough that they love you best if everyone else loves them better.

okay some people are misinterpreting this as talking about people who treat you like a pity project and like they're doing you a favour by choosing you. this isn't necessarily about relationships made toxic by people who don't value you enough. this is about knowing that you're socially disposable and being unable to accept the love that you're offered because you resent how much your life depends on it.

also only tangentially related but i keep thinking about how insanely predatory the general psych reaction to any honest discussion of 5150s is & how much it solidifies my belief that if you've had a traumatic experience with forced institutionalization and it's something you feel able and ready to talk about, then you should never ever shut the fuck up about it. no medical field insists on the necessity of patients being kept ignorant about their rights and the circumstances in which they can be taken as staunchly as psych doctors do

i think it was kind of a major failing to frame the self diagnosis issue around whether it's "valid" or not rather than the fact that unless an official diagnosis is necessary for you to access actually beneficial pharmaceuticals/treatment, accomodations or disability benefits, you should actively avoid on-paper diagnosis for your basic safety and access to care

Kinda crazy how many notable artists in the grunge genre sang about hating themselves and wishing everything was different and being suicidal and conceptualized themselves as having been raped. It is possible grunge itself can be thought of as a genre invented to sing about dysphoria

My pet theory is that like at least 30% of all men who've ever decided to become the singer for an alternative music project did it to vent feelings of gender dysphoria they didn't know about. If transition were decriminalized and normalized enough we might see as much as half of some genres' frontrunners become women
