this isn't, by the way, an uncritical appraisal of all non-transmisogynized trans media/characters. but one of the best ways to interact with media is to criticize it, which trans women and transfems have done extensively with each of the media cited in lrb. so the fact that every time i've had a conversation with one of these guys about the amount of transmasculine/non-transmisogynized trans media available to them and the response amounts to basically "but i don't like that one"/"but that one is cringe"/"but the author is problematic" is the most obvious proof that they don't actually care! they just want everything to be about them and then not even engage with it

can i be a little malicious here and say i find it funny that people felt the need to defend the honor of heterosexual relationships from the evil crowds yelling "hetslop"? whenever i see someone refer to media, ocs or, god forbid, their own (usually, trans-)het relationship as "hetgem" it cracks me up. straight people are so fucking homophobic but they also care sooooooo much what we think of them, it's hilarious

because trans men do not get the privileges of cis men. Trans men are affected by abortion laws and female healthcare laws because we were born women. Trans men are subjected to rape including corrective rape. Trans men are subjected to conversion therapy. Trans men are kicked out of the house by unaccepting homes. Trans men are bullied and ridiculed. Trans men are hate crime’d. Trans men are murdered. Trans men are forcibly made pregnant. Trans men are forcibly detransitioned. And so much more all for the simple fact that they identify as men. When has a cis man been through any of these things because he is a man?

it's very hard to conceptualize all her abuse, manipulation and outright hateful rhetoric because she'll try to retroactively add a trans sticker on it once she realizes she's gone too far (plus she'll also cry when you point out anything she's done wrong, not even just related to trans issues she once cried because i told her i didn't think calling the cops when people were loud outside was a good idea). it makes you feel like you're a bad person for calling her bigoted, but like, if you take the trans sticker out, she's just a hateful fucking asshole a good chunk of the time (plus a misogynist who thinks she's a feminist! yay!)

at what point do you call a spade a spade and recognize that someone whose #1 bit is pretending to have a thicker accent associated to the lower classes to impersonate a woman who doesn't know anything about feminism and goes against her own interests is just a classist misogynist who needs to be punched by one of those women poorer than her asap

if as a transmasc you want to be tall, then say you want to be tall. if you want to be feminine then be feminine. if you want to be thin say you want to be thin. if you want to be alt then be alt. if you want to have a penis say you want to have a penis. just say which physical traits you want to have (preferably on your own post) and stop saying you want to “have the gender” of whichever trans woman’s selfies you’re commenting on. her gender is female and you would explode if you had to deal with even a fraction of the things she’s dealing with

i’m sure i’ve said it before but i really think that when transmascs say they “want the gender” of whichever woman they’re looking at what they really mean is that they want to be a feminine person with a penis, which is both achievable and should be achieved, but projecting this desire onto trans women is pretty disgusting actually, considering those aren’t what qualifies her gender, she might not even enjoy having whichever traits you’re pining after, and you will not have and do not want her gender anyway

pot-kettle, maybe, but straight trans men specifically are fr one of the most entitled demographics i ever interact with
