This is not foolproof, but it's how I killed SJP on my campus.

See, the thing everyone on campus fucking forgets is that "Israeli" is a NATIONAL ORIGIN, and that's a protected category under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which like... is wildly in danger in this day and age but that's not the point. The point is that anything that receives federal funds is vulnerable to a Title VI complaint, and you know who receives federal funds?

COLLEGES. UNIVERSITIES. EVEN PRIVATE ONES. Because you know what counts as federal funding?

STUDENT.

LOANS.

That's right: if your institution offers federal student loans, YOU CAN MAKE A TITLE VI COMPLAINT.

And because a Title VI complaint threatens a school's federal funding? They do NOT fuck around with them. They won't always be able to tell you the exact action they take (in fact, they'll hardly ever be able to tell you), but they WILL have to take action if your local band of antisemites is posting anti-Israel crap.

And how do you MAKE one? Why, through this extremely handy portal! But your school should also have a process for making one, and if you have a diversity office or something akin to that, you can also have fun freaking them out by walking in and saying, "Hi, I'm here to make a Title VI complaint." Usually this will cause people to get managers. Federal discrimination complaints are a big deal.

When Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center held services in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, Chann and Christina An, who lived across the street, sometimes sat on their front porch and listened to the songs.

And when the Eaton fire flattened the PJTC campus last January — and the An home, too — the synagogue helped its next-door neighbors with food donations and gift cards.

“Ever since the fire, they’ve included us like one of their members,” Chann An said.

So when a vandal earlier this week spray-painted swastikas on a mural the synagogue had painted on its only remaining wall, it felt like an attack on them, too. On Thursday, when PJTC organized a community-wide solidarity event at the site, the Ans were among many non-Jewish residents in attendance.

“They’re part of our community, and they’re always welcome, and I want them to feel that way,” said An. “And I want them to feel that all the neighbors support them.”

What typically happens when a Jewish institution is tagged — an increasingly common story these days — is a familiar chain of events: Photos are snapped and posted online; Jewish leaders and local officials issue statements; the tag is covered up and people move on.

In Altadena, all of that happened. But so did something else: The synagogue was inundated with messages of support from surrounding faith institutions and Altadena residents, according to the temple’s executive director Melissa Levy. A few of those neighbors had offered to sand down the graffiti themselves.

That kind of support has been really beautiful in the wake of all of this,” Levy said.

The Eaton fire devastated Altadena, killing 19 people and leveling cherished community institutions, including the temple’s 75-year-old campus and several other houses of worship. Dozens of congregants lost their homes in the blaze. Where PJTC’s sanctuary, chapel and religious school once stood, weeds now rise five feet off the ground.

The mural had been painted in May in response to graffiti on the same wall earlier this year. At the mural’s center was a fire poppy — a native flower known to rise from ashes — adorned with a message intended to be universal: We are all responsible for each other.

“When we look at the mural,” Christina An said, it reminds them: “We’re all going to be back.”

But this week, those inspiring words were painted over with another. Vandals painted more swastikas alongside the message: “Zionism is not welcome.” No arrests have been made in either instance, and it is unclear whether the same person was responsible for both incidents. LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger has called on the county to offer a $20,000 reward for information on the culprit.

“There’s an increased feeling of vulnerability after the fire destroyed our home,” said Rabbi Josh Ratner, the synagogue’s senior leader. “To have any stuff happen after that compounds our vulnerability.”

Rising from the ashes

The stone wall abutting Altadena Boulevard was the only one on the complex that remained fully intact after the fire. But it didn’t become a symbol until after it was vandalized earlier this year, when passersby noticed on Jan. 13 that the charred stone wall had been tagged.

That graffiti read “F— Zionism” and “RIP Renee,” the latter message an apparent reference to Renee Nicole Good, an anti-ICE protester who had been killed the previous week in Minneapolis.

In response, synagogue leadership decided to cover it with art. Working with a local group called Art Against Hate, PJTC commissioned a muralist who invited synagogue members to contribute ideas — and recruited their children to help paint it.

The mural was sectioned like stained glass, with Stars of David in the corners and a border containing the animal symbols for the tribes of Israel. A peacock adorned one side — the birds have thrived in the area for more than a century — and while the children were painting it, one approached the scene, seemingly to admire it.

“It was for Altadena as much as the synagogue, and the neighbors appreciated it,” said Judy Callahan, a longtime PJTC member. “I think looking out and seeing it — they still see this vacant lot, but it just made things cheerier.”

Coming together

Many of those neighbors — and a phalanx of local officials — were on hand Thursday to condemn the latest graffiti and watch Miriam Hellmann, the muralist, apply the final touches for a second time.

Barger spoke, as did Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo, U.S. Rep. Judy Chu and others. But just as important to the temple members in attendance were the locals who braved the scorching heat to embrace them.

After Ratner spoke, he invited the Rev. Amy Aitken to the podium. Aitken leads the First United Methodist Church of Pasadena, where PJTC has been holding their services for the last year.

After joking that most other Methodist churches don’t have a “campus rabbi” — that is, Ratner — she asked other clergy in attendance to stand up. Nearly a dozen did.

One of them was the Rev. Michael David Lewis of Altadena Community Church, who said he wanted to assure Jewish community members that he considered them family.

“When they are attacked, I want to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them,” he said. “I want to stand against the hate that was expressed here and stand against the fear that was expressed here.”

Hellmann, who is not Jewish, said every muralist knows their work might get tagged — murals tend to be in prominent places, and vandals want their message to be seen.

But this target had broader resonance than other walls, or even other synagogues. “It’s not just about the Jewish community,” Hellmann said. “It was supposed to be a symbol of hope for a lot of people.”

When Hellmann first painted the mural, she applied a layer of anti-graffiti coating that prevents spray paint from bonding to the surface. But the graffiti was not cleaned off immediately, allowing it to set.

“I’ll keep repainting it every day if I need to,” Hellmann said.

This time, she added an olive branch, that ancient symbol of peace.

“I think that it’s important for non-Jewish people to stand with the Jewish community when there’s antisemitism,” she said. “So I’m happy to be a part of it. I think it’s a beautiful religion.”

Oh, it’s even better than that.

What happened was the lease to The Theatre (actual name) was coming to an end, and the asshole landlord Giles Allen refused to extend it. He even tried to argue that since he owned the land, he also owned The Theatre itself (see: asshole).

So the Burbages and/or Shakespeare came up with a very clever solution: While they did not own the land The Theatre was on, they did in fact own The Theatre itself. So they hired people to dismantle The Theatre in Shoreditch on the sly and take the pieces to set up a new one in Southwark.

Palestinians do have a right to form a state for “the right to not be stateless” reasons, but there’s never been a time when the “Free Palestine” movement cared more about that than the negation of Israel, or was not defined by its antisemitism. this is not a good cause that went bad because outsiders poisoned it; it is a cause that has always had a venomous aspect, and purposefully keeps Palestinians in a position to be aggrieved for recruitment and fundraising purposes, in order to fuel an eternal intifada.

Doctors in Gaza have repeatedly been proven to be Hamas officers who ran command centers out of Gaza hospitals in violation of international humanitarian law.

There's been literally no confirmed evidence of systematic targeting of children by Israelis - but there's been copious evidence of Hamas and PIJ targeting children. All they have are allegations. They know that if the allegations are repeated often enough, they'll be regarded as true.

They learned this tactic from masters of deception

I don't think we should hold that decision against them. If there was a gun in your face and a woman bleeding behind a curtain who needed your help, what would you do? Can you say? These doctors acted under duress and did what they judged to be best for their patients.

A disgraced Palestinian author who has openly celebrated the murder of Jews and Christians has received a coveted book deal from Simon & Schuster, the prestigious New York City publishing house, the Washington Free Beacon can report.

Susan Abulhawa, who has attacked "Jewish Supremacist Vampires" and called Hamas's Oct. 7 massacre "a spectacular moment," has reached an agreement for Atria Books, a Simon & Schuster imprint, to republish two of her novels in September.

Jessica Laino, a spokeswoman for Simon & Schuster, sent a press release in July to the Free Beacon trumpeting the news and praising Abulhawa's "signature lyrical voice" and "nuanced characters."

Laino said Atria would rerelease Abulhawa's past novels Mornings in Jenin and The Blue Between Sky and Water on Sept. 29, 2026.

Atria is a prestigious imprint that has published bestselling authors such as Colleen Hoover, Brad Thor, Janet Evanovich, and Philippa Gregory.

Abulhawa first came to wide public attention months after the Free Beacon revealed that Rama Duwaji, the N-word-slinging, Oct. 7-celebrating wife of Mayor Zohran Mamdani, had provided illustrations for an essay published in the Abulhawa book Every Moment Is a Life.

The essay was published in February in Everything Is Political—an offshoot of self-described "environmental & social justice nonprofit organization" Slow Factory.

Abulhawa's record of posting explosive content denigrating Jews and celebrating violence was evident long before the Duwaji collaboration.

In one December 2025 post on X, Abulhawa wrote that Israelis are "rootless, soulless ghouls" and in September of that year called Israel a "cultureless, rootless human aberration in the form of a manufactured 'nation,'" adding that "we live in the time of jewish supremacist demons."

Also in September, Abulhawa described a pro-Israel commentator as a "lying Jewish supremacist cockroach" and bemoaned "Dual loyalty zionists."

Abulhawa described Israelis as "demonic parasite[s]" in a November post in which she said "Israel must be dismantled if humanity is going to have any chance at a moral future" and in another post said "we will have our revenge someday" against the "sons of satan."

The torrent of hate even led Mamdani—a long-documented opposer of Israel—to condemn his wife's erstwhile collaborator.

"I think that that rhetoric is patently unacceptable. I think it's reprehensible," Mamdani said of Abulhawa at a March 13 press conference, when asked about his wife's artistic collaboration with the writer (Mamdani claims Duwaji didn't know about the postings).

Abulhawa's hate-filled rants have continued even after Simon & Schuster announced the book deal. In a July 31 post on X Abulhawa declared the Holocaust had "lost its meaning" and that "the whole world is sick of hearing about it."

"These clowns invoke that genocide with every perceived slight," Abulhawa complained. "There is an extreme overrepresentation of Jews in every branch of government, media, and culture."

Earlier in July, she suggested that Jews were to blame for bringing the Holocaust onto themselves, and that it could soon happen again.

"The way zios keep boasting about the extraordinary power they wield reminds me of how they also boasted and took credit for Germany's defeat in the First World War that culminated in the Treaty of Versailles and led to the rise of extreme anti-Jewish sentiment. History will rhyme," read a July 24 post on X, which now has a community note to inform users it directly repeats the Nazi-era "stab-in-the-back" blood libel against Jews.

Rest in power Comrade Kozo Okamoto. You were an inspiration to all who knew you and all who knew of your heroic life. You were an embodiment of solidarity and love of the people," Abulhawa posted the very next day.

Okamoto was the last surviving participant of the 1972 Lod Airport Massacre, which left 26 people dead, including 17 Christian pilgrims from Puerto Rico. Lod Airport, in Tel Aviv, is now Ben Gurion International Airport.

Representatives for Simon & Schuster, Atria, and its parent company, the private equity firm KKR, did not respond to requests for comment.
