One of the biggest issues is many show fans latching onto the idea of Claudia never doing any wrong which… is not her character. There’s this very odd need to find a “perfect victim” in her, so the idea that she would ever dare to lie or manipulate is labeled as “hating” her character.
Anything that contradicts the notion that she can do no wrong will be pushed back against, but it IS book canon and they’re DOING THE BOOKS.
yep
Honestly, one of my favourite things about Claudia is that she's complex- sometimes innocent, often charming, and sometimes incredibly cruel. Making her into a simple victim ignores 1) all of the awful stuff we see her do to humans and 2) her desire to be seen as a threat, as a monster, as someone powerful.

"This is my weird son. He can't climb for shit, but he is handsome and strong."
#cats be like#is anybody adopt that#and don't wait for an answer
Everything that isn't food is a cat from the perspective of a cat. Cats can look upon the true form of eldritch monstrosities and keep their sanity. They'd just see another cat. A fucking weird-looking cat, but a cat nonetheless.

As a Greek, in response to the current controversy about Matt Damon being cast as Odysseus, I'd just like to share that one of the moments that changed my brain chemistry as a kid was reading a novelized version of the Odyssey and coming across the following description of Odysseus when Circe sees him for the first time and thinks he's hot: "his hair curled like a clematis and his eyes were very brown".
So may I present my own casting choice for Odysseus:
Excuse me???
you are right and you should say it.
Is this the face of a man who would put his own infant in front of a plow to avoid going to war?
Absolutely not
You know who would try that shit?
Is this the face of a man who would defy the very gods to get home to his wife?
You know who would defy the gods just to show he could get away with it?
The only thing unbelievable about casting Jason Mantzoukas as Odysseus, is that I refuse to believe it would take him 10 years to get home. It'd take him like 2 weeks tops to outsmart the gods.
a friend and I got to thinking why Hartnells lip was cut in episode 4 and so I drew my interpretation. He was double dog dared by Hickey and Manson to lick the ice, got his tongue stuck like a cartoon, and ripped the skin off his lip trying to free himself (not pictured here is Armitage scratching his butt off to the side).
extra hartnell and pilkingtons below the cut

I think a very underrated aspect of Joplittle is the size difference, but not in the way that a lot of folks think. More important than their intrinsic physical builds, I think, is their presentation and how the way that they dress and carry themselves reduce or magnify their presence.
Edward Little is, well, little, but he's above/larger than others in terms of rank and status and thus have to project this into his appearance. He puts on layers to pad his silouette and conceal his rather triangular frame, because he needs to have Authority. If you think of him as genuinely being taller and broader than Jopson... you fell for the ruse! You took his posturing and efforts to physically conform to victorian masculinity at face value! As the show continues, he even physically shrinks- see him in episode 7 vs 9. That's him with and without the big coat. He gets his his layers peeled away from him like an onion, haha. And, uh, here's mcnulty.
Jopson, on the other hand, is quite the opposite. He's very much Built. Broad shoulders, snatched waist. But also I'm not surprised that people get the misconception that he's leaner and smaller than he is, because that's how he postures himself. He too, has to physically conform to the role that he plays, except he goes in the *other* direction from Edward. His steward's uniform downplays his masculinity. He is meant to go unseen, blend into the background. Socially, he is expected to be unsassuming- and so that's how he is, until the field promotion puffs him up. Look at how broad he is! Look at him! He's built like a dorito and I want to eat him. (Ignore peglar, this isn't about him.)
Even with the actors themselves, you can see the body language- mcnulty with his arms spread further out, garrigan curled in. Also, despite google telling you that they're 5'10 and 5'9 respectively, a deeper dive reveals that Garrigan is actually taller by 5 cm, which... yeah. I'll believe that.
