this is the Phoenix zoo, she's got plenty of outdoor space π
I'll also say she looks super healthy and happy in that video so she probably loves her cool concrete room #myconkrete

Not finished yet, but my latest crochet project
I, a hearing person who likes subtitles just as a preference, shouldn't have to read a subtitle that's obvious nonsense, go back a couple seconds, and listen again in order to figure out what's going on. An accessibility feature should not be the most half-assed part of a professionally made production. Scripted media has absolutely no excuse for not having subtitles or having subtitles that aren't perfectly verbatim. Professional captioning services should be ashamed of the shoddy work that they put out. Captions should be treated as a part of the production, just like filming, editing, audio balancing, etc - and anything that releases with missing or bad captions should be seen as unfinished
"we need more complex female characters." you guys can't even handle supergirl.
I think it was not only fine but important for Kara to be de-supered for most of the movie.
1) She wasnβt superpowered on Argo. She was exactly the same as she was on any other red sun planet except sicker. Unlike Clark, she didnβt grow up super. This is what her body normally feels like to her. Being super on Earth is new and unnatural to her.
2) Sheβs in a state of mental anguish, disassociation, and grief and is self-medicating through that with her dog and alcohol and guess what? Alcohol doesnβt work on Earth or any other yellow sun system.
3) The point of the movie is that you have to choose to be good and kind, and that itβs hard, and that also being good and kind does not look the same for everyone. For Kara, making that choice also meant choosing to become sober in the face of her depression and alocholism, which is extremely difficult for any alcoholic. She needed something beyond Ruthyeβs plea to force her into action, and that was putting her best friend and emotional support animalβs life in jeopardy. Nothing else was enough to motivate her.
4) Relapsing is extremely common and expected. The dual sun planet mimicked the way that you can start feeling better on your antidepressants and then get hit out of nowhere with another wave of it. Itβs awful. But guess what? Thereβs still hope if you wait it out.
5) The fights in the movie progressed from seeking to self-harm (she enjoyed the physical novelty of being hurt on Ruthyeβs planet when she fought the thief) to preventing hurt (to Ruthyeβs childhood and psyche and the girls who would have been trafficked had she not ended the bandit ring), which is also a journey of acceptance of her new powers. She goes from resenting having them because they are inextricably related to the death of her family and people, to accepting that she has the power to do real good and prevent other people hurting the way she is.
It wasnβt anti-feminist or bad writing to have her βnormalβ for so much of the story. It was essential to her character growth.
It fuckin bright man. I seepy.

>#I love how this gag would be funny at any point since the third century BCE
I like that Supergirl says itβs okay to kill someoneβs abuser so long as you donβt let the thirteen year old do it and I like that Supergirl says vengeance will not solve things but neither will allowing a cycle of violence to continue

KUMAIL: Okay, can you give us five points again so I can have a more TV friendly reaction? GREG: No! I want everyone to see how mean spirited you are.
the thing w there being potatoes in lord of the things is that there ARE actually at least 2 built in explanations for it:
1: they don't have potatoes; the references to potatoes in the Shire were added by Tolkien-the-translator as part of a wider localisation. when Sam mentions potatoes he's actually talking about some other vegetable
2: given that Middle Earth was historically ruled over by the Numenoreans who come from a lost kingdom on the other side of the western ocean, it could be that Numenor was in or had contact with ancient America and brought potatoes back with them
2 is kind of a stretch tho interesting to contemplate; 1 however on some level i think is the correct answer. the Shire's resemblance to England is 100% canonically a localisation thing. The Shire is England bcos it's the main characters' home and the intended audience of the book was English people.
the decision to incorporate post-colombian exchange plants like potatoes and tobacco isn't innocuous but it was a purposeful decision with reasoning behind it beyond 'they have potatoes because I said so'.
lord of the rings adaptation where Sam is talking about how much he loves potatoes while holding a vegetable that is visibly not a potato, a la pokemon characters talking about jelly donuts while eating rice balls
just bringing this back for no particular reason to clarify:
the point i was gesturing at in the OP is that sometimes in LOTR Tolkien did stuff For A Reason (in this case a bad, racist reason) and subsequent fantasy authors picked it up and ran with it without thinking through the implications so now it's just a Thing in fantasy literature even tho most writers aren't trying to do the specific thing Tolkien was doing (create a world that's evocative of mid 20th century England) so in addition to be vaguely racist its also kind of incoherent.
