“The hostage is still with Two-Face,” the police radio hummed.
Hostage.
As if Harvey’s attention was on some anonymous stranger and not Bruce’s lover. Somewhere in Bruce’s shed tux the weight of a ring in the breast pocket sat heavy. Would Bruce even have the chance to ask the question he had been so afraid of?
“Oracle,” Bruce barked.
He was too sharp, too harsh, but he hoped they understood. They knew too.
It was Danny.
They cared.
“Danny is taking all the attention. SWAT almost has the all the other hostages out, the ones we know of. Some cars they can’t get close to check,” Oracle answered.
The bridge was mess of smashed and overturned cars. There was no way that there weren’t fatalities. They just hoped to avoid more. But with Harvey.
The coin glinted against the search lights as it flipped again. How many flips had spared Danny now? Each one a promise that Two-Face would stay focused on Danny and let another batch of people go.
Bruce was still too far to stop the flip.
One more. Danny just needed one more toss to go his way.
Harvey caught the coin, smiled, and then shot Danny in the head.

OKAY BUT Clark, still new to being Superman, freaking out about this because this could change everything, someone like Bruce dating a meta. His status going up against Lex's. Lex's bitter response to it.
There are those talk shows with a bunch of women in a half circle debating their relationship, if it was fair for Danny to not reveal that he was a meta before they stared dating.
A company stops a contract with Wayne Enterprises over it. The internet resorts to bitter name calling and doxxing that Babs and Tim work to wipe from the record, even for the bigots that they hate.
And then... and then the government comes for Danny. And suddenly it's a topic on a whole different level.

Oh, absolutely. Or at least they had a fling.
Imagine if Danny started with the 'die, give everything up' route; but then he sees Bruce's grief and he can't. He can't leave Bruce to suffer that. Not when there's another option. Even if it'll be harder in it's own ways, even if the GIW still terrifies Danny to no end; he just can't, won't leave Bruce to suffer alone in his stead.
Imagine. Bruce is called in as BRUCE to identify the body. And it's Bruce's grief and how he's breaking right there over the body that changes everything.
And Bruce turns away, fingers still in Danny’s cold ones even as Bruce is supposed to go. Dick is there, hand on Bruce's shoulder, talking softly to him. Maybe Cass too, the silent support. And these are the people that Danny loves and wants to call family forever.
And so Danny gives up on holding off the healing and instead pushes it through. And it hurts Ancients it hurts so much! Is fingers tight around Bruce's moments before Danny is arching off the slab with a gasp and then a scream and by the time it's done, he's alive and wrapped up in Bruce's coat and his arms and officially alive again.
And he can only hope that it's all worth it.

if you’re white and wanna write a poc character and feel awkward about it i implore you to ignore any twitblr stuff treating it as a massive ethical burden and instead come in more with the same mindset you’d have if you wanted to write about idk firefighters but didn’t know anything about firefighters so you do... research. Like fuck off with the weird kinda creepy calls for spiritual introspection you’re not writing about god damn space aliens you’re writing about humans and if you think you need more perspective of different life experiences just read?
If I were writing about firefighters I'd also, in addition to just reading about them, take advantage of Our Blessed Internet to ask actual firefighters about how shit works. I'd do the same for a minority I'm not a part of.
I remember when there was this LiveJournal community where you could just ask about anything you needed for your novel - medicine, professions, vehicles, how things function in country X - and people who knew something about that would answer.
We need to bring this back.

as an adult, some adults really aren’t mature enough to separate fiction from reality or understand the basic concepts of fiction not necessarily reflecting someone’s real life moral compass and it’s embarrassing. how are you a grown adult and still acting like a mean girl who bullies real people for the sake of fictional characters and feelings morally superior
some people will be like “I wonder why fanfic writers don’t share their works anymore😔” and then this is them when a writer is kind enough to share something they write — as a hobby, for their own enjoyment — with them for free.
some people really don’t realize how privileged they are that they get fanfics for free. imagine having access to something for free because someone is kind enough to share it with you… and then being rude, entitled and an ungrateful pos to that person who was kind enough to share their creation with you for free
“almost 1 year is a lil too much for me” fuck off. fanfic writers don’t owe you anything. one of my favorite fics was updated after 13 years, and what I did is that I thanked the author for choosing to continue the work, I didn’t act like a spoiled toddler by asking why they didn’t update sooner. and even if a writer chooses to abandon their fic permanently with no explanation, that is their choice, their hobby, their decision. they don’t owe your entitled ass anything.

Sometimes you hear a song and a fic pops into your head full formed. This is a trap. The fic may be fully formed in your brain, but you still Have to write it down. This is an important step that most people forget about.
