Pineberry is based on the original strawberry hybrids that arose in cultivation in Europe, with recent selective breeding to improve the plants. It is a hybrid of Fragaria chiloensis, originating in South America, and Fragaria virginiana, originating in North America, the same parentage as the garden strawberry Fragaria × ananassa. A pineberry is smaller than a common strawberry. When ripe, it is almost completely white, but with red "seeds" (achenes). This is easily one of the coolest jackets we've ever seen. The terrifying wizard demons riding those golden waves are none other than the elder shinto Gods, Fujin and Raijin. The other day we learned about the huge street market in Otavalo, Ecuador called the Plaza de los Ponchos. The more photos we saw of it, the more we saw this weird, brightly colored mask everywhere. We needed to know more, so after more searching we learned that these masks depict the "huma devil", also known as the "diabluma" or "haya huma". The devil stuff is just because of catholic influence, but in the indigenous communities of the Pichincha and Imbabura provinces of northern Ecuador, haya refers to the light and dark powers of nature and huma means head. Ultimately, the huma devil or haya huma is connected with leadership and considered a spiritual guide who bestows the power of nature. As for the masks, they seem to cost around $5, which means we'll be buying plenty whenever we go to Ecuador. Iori Tomita has gained international recognition in only a few short years for his work, which he calls new world specimens. Originally a fisherman in the Iwate prefecture of Northeast Japan, Iori began to experiment with an old biological staining method known as diaphonization after seeing a university lecture when he was 19 years old. A decade later, Iori has perfected this technique and now exhibits his work throughout the country. Unfortunately for most of us, Tomita doesn't sell or ship his work outside of Japan, but that's exactly what we're here to help with! We obtained, photographed, and sold this specimen by Tomita for $280 back in 2015 when we were testing people's interests with an online store. The electrical properties of amber have been known since ancient times due to its popular use in jewelry and other fancy stuff. It conducts static electricity fairly well and nobody knew what that ish was until way later so it was basically magic to most people. As a result, the 'effect' of amber was eventually named after amber itself. Seriously, 'electron' is exactly how the ancient greek word for amber is pronounced (ἤλεκτρον). Anyway, the rarest form of this wondrous gemstone is only found in the Dominican Republic and is appropriately called blue amber. Blacklights make it fluoresce a bright, milky bluish color, which kinda looks like a weird alien energy crystal and we're all about that. In terms of price, it depends on the size, clarity, polish, and whether it has any remarkable inclusions, but you can usually get a nice strawberry-sized piece for a couple hundred dollars.
